They must not have anyone on the team that plays tactical PC games. No Wasteland 2, Divinity: OS, etc. I don't see how this was properly play-tested and still released in this state.

The game is absolutely gorgeous and I can easily see they put everything they've got into the world building, content quantity, etc, so it's a real shame the PC version is hampered by a really bad control scheme.

I hope they can fix most of the big issues with PC patches.

My tactical view issues (that I can think of at this very moment):

1. Selecting a portrait auto centers (confirmed to be a bug via twitter)

2. Max camera height is too low (think they're looking into this)

3. Foliage and other assets block the camera when you are zoomed out. This makes tactical view useless in some situations.

4. No edge scrolling with mouse cursor!

5. I find it really difficult to easily figure out what is going on in some fights. Enemies should be easier to spot and distinguish from party members.

6. Interacting with rifts can be very annoying both in regular view and tactical view. You sometimes have to rotate the camera at a weird angle to get the interact prompt to appear.

Edit:

7. Unable to select multiple characters at once.

Controls on PC are truly a mess. I haven't played ranged characters yet but melee characters are a pain. Having to run after the enemies and adjusting the angle to attack over and over inside a crowd of enemies (some of them covering your character) has probably doomed the DW Rogues. Everyone is going Archer for a reason.

I finally gave up and switched to my old PC XB360 controller and now everything is fantastic, even tactical view. I don't even really miss the PC controls at all. If they patch things up and fix the major issues I might attempt PC controls again but, for now, I'm very happy with the controller.

I wish we could have the same controls as DAO 1 on pc has. Right now i am playing as Rouge and it's unplayable with mouse and keyboard. The only way I can play is with xbox controller.

Mt theory is they just made the controls and combat  synergize with mass effect to minimize the development cost.  End result is a very disappointing game that will leave the older pause and play pc players in the cold.

Yeah but messed up how they were all like we're definitely keeping pc players in mind and catering to their needs and all that junk, now when I think back on it none of their videos ever showed pc interface gameplay because they knew damn well if they did show it in its current state alot of pc gamers would have not purchased it.

The funny thing is, Mass Effect worked much better than this when we're talking about combat and movement. In DAI I have to hold down my right mouse button at all times just to look around and move smoothly - Why is this not the default? There are already hotkeys for everything on the screen so why is there a cursor at all?

What a freaking joke.

Everyone who said wait and see, Bioware hasn't forgotten PC players, the PC interface and controls have been complete;y designed for a PC.

I will struggle through the game. And I know no one at Bioware actually cares, but I don't see myself buying another one of their games. The controls are freaking ridiculous. Most of the time I am running around trying to engage things melee as opposed to actually doing anything. Tactical view is about as un-intuitive as it can get.

An absurdly sad day. Has any dev bothered to show up and tell us how wrong we are and how bad we are for complaining about combat yet?

I found some of the KB+M controls to be a little cumbersome, but I am having a great time once I started to work within the system and get used to the way this game is controlled.

I've played for about 15 hours now and the interface is starting to feel natural.

If I knew they were working on the controls to improve them, and we could expect a patch to help with the issues people have been pointing out within, say, several months time, I'd be content to wait till then to play the game.

As it is, I hate to say it, but I'm not really enjoying combat at all. I'll try to slog through it, but man.... to have such a lovingly constructed world and what seems like a good story hampered by poor controls. It's just depressing. This game, with DA:O's or DA2's combat system and control scheme, and I'd be a very happy customer indeed.

[edit: an update]

I have to say that the above may have been a slight exaggeration - I just restarted the game with a new character, and while the controls still feel clunky, they do not seem quite as horrible as they did with the first impression of the game. It'll still get a lot of getting used to before I feel comfortable with the system, if that's possible.

First, I think everyone rending their garments and gnashing their teeth over moderately clunky tactical view controls should seriously calm down. I agree with almost every complaint, and frankly it's not that big a deal. It was also much more disorienting at first than once I had a chance to get used to it. And auto center is a bug, not a design issue.

That said, this is a pretty solid list of the problems I've run into with tactical view. For the most part, none of them really affect the game so much as they make things a little more annoying. The exception is #6 - rift fights are incredibly hard because I spend the entire fight moving my inquisitor around the map, and moving the camera angle, to find the magic spot that makes the interact prompt appear. I've restarted the fight and found that the location I previously stood at to close the rift no longer works. This is my #1 problem with a bullet so far.

Thanks. The only problem is that it bugs up the tactical mode. Since it for some reason reverses the normal 'left click to attack', you have to double right click and sometimes even that doesn't work.

I really hope BW makes an option for 'always-on mouselook' (except when pausing or entering tactical mode).

Well said, the TC makes microing my team very easy. I can see who is targeting what and telling them to move around isn't an issue all. And, as previously mentioned, the auto-centering is a bug and should be fixed. My biggest problem so far with this game is that you have to unequip an item to modify it, and that isn't even that bad.
