I can't seem to fin the quest on the war table, the Investigate Dwarven port. Is there something I have to do to trigger that?

Okay .. good .. I see the cave and have been trying to find another way over there to no avail... anybody know what quest/requirements are needed to open it up?
I think the quest you're looking for in called "Red Water." It's a quest I believe you get as you complete more of the quests Cullen has on the map. I'm actually stuck halfway in that cave right now.

That quest for me to open up the area didn't happen for a long time. I'm sure something triggered it. It could have been after meeting Varrics dwarven "friend" during his personal quest.
IIRC you have to finish Varric's quest when you meet his dwarven "friend", and you might have to have an Inquisition Level of 10 or 11.

I hate quests that have operations to unlock them. Isn't his other quest the more important one anyways?

Once you get a certain quest it will open up a route.
Good to know, I was clutching my head and making an expression like that Jackie Chan meme because I just couldn't get around. The lack of movement options for the characters doesn't help either. Anyway, thanks for the info. ![]()

Four of the Red lyrium deposits you need to destroy for this quest are in a cave in the Storm Coast. I can't seem to find a way to get to them. The cave entrance is closed off with a door that is not interact-able. Anyone able to finish this quest?
You have to unlock and complete a War Table Operation called Red Templars on the Storm Coast to get past that blocked off doorway. This video shows you how to unlock it the War Table Operation, find the Red Templar Key and what to do when you get to the bridge with the Landmark on it. Hope this helps.

This kind of stuff is slightly annoying and not very "open world" - it'd be better if one could enter the cave and then get their lvl 7ish butt spanked by the lvl 13-15 mobs. Then you would know, yes, I can get in there...just not yet, instead of wondering WTF is going on.
I agree too, it's unsettling. like guess which hand the penny is in but there is no penny, not fun

it would all be solved if the quest markers didn't show on the map until the quest has begun

ETA: The guide is supremely unhelpful here. It says that Varric's personal plot must be completed, but if "personal plot" means Seeing Red, then that's certainly false, and I haven't done the other one (which happens in Valammar), so I don't know what the guide is on about...
Doesn't Varric have at least two personal plots? collecting all copies of hard in hightown (i have 12 of 48) and the red lyrium? I also have him writing a book for someone special.

I hate these. No clue as to it being a bug or what. Its been made for mass appeal, so why not have a blurb pop up "you don't feel up to this challenge yet"? With all the bugs in games (not picking on EA at all because its all games) being released, I have come to expect a lot of bugs and do not normally buy until a few patches come out. But this game looked too good and I loved DAO. This is way different in a lot of ways such as no direct control over stats (take that min-maxers! LOL just kidding) but the dialogues and stories and so much more are great. Love the game and will be playing over and again with new characters.

Update: Son of a ....there's a side entrance at the corner before you approach the bridge. It's hidden in darkness.
Which bridge? What side? Details, man! Tearing my hair out over this.
I've scoured the walls before and after both the rickety wooden bridge and the broken stone bridge. Adjusted the gamma to see if I was missing something in the dark, but still can't find anything that gets me to the spot. I'm sure it's there, but... gah!

I cannot remember how far in the game you need to be but I know at some point this door will open on it's own. Also I think a WAR TABLE mission is needed to be done too?
Also about the bridge: If I remember right you need to set the marker for it then do a WAR TABLE mission to rebuild the bridge in the cave then you can cross it. I know there are two broken bridges if I remember right. The first one cannot be rebuild so you need to go through a passage way (right of it?) around it. The route can be hard to see to the naked eye i know. Sometimes I swear I may be going blind. Lol.

This is still bugged. A templar is suppose to drop the key but doesn't.
EDIT: You have to go to the war table twice on this one red templar quest area. The key is on a red templar but he doesn't show up until the second table mission.

You won't miss much tho, one lyrium, one Solas artifact and some loot.

It's also screwy that you get a quest like "seeing red" and have no way of knowing that it could take 10 levels before you can finish it. Bit epic for a seemingly trivial side quests.

@VoqarToo -- I KINDA agree.. And I'm glad you said "SLIGHTLY" annoying, as it's not THAT big of a deal.. I mean, a part of the fun, is in exploring places, and trying to get into certain areas, only to realize that you can't yet, and aren't supposed to be in there yet.. That's part of the learning curve. I've noticed several places in this game, where they made it look like you MIGHT be able to climb a certain hill (for example), only to make you try it and FAIL.. LoL, then I'm like, "Hey! They did that on PURPOSE! The programmers are probably thinking, "Let's see how much TIME we can get people to waste, trying to climb up HERE, or get into THERE, before they give up and retreat!"" Haha.. Anyway, a part of the fun is: figuring out that the door is SUPPOSED to be locked at first, without looking up spoilers on the internet (on pages like THIS.. I only ended up here, because I was looking for something ELSE related to the storm coast, having to do with a certain dragon, but this page ended up in my search results, and I was curious enough to click on it.. But by the time I GOT here, I had already figured out (on my own), that the door would open LATER, so I should just go away (for now).. So nothing was "spoiled" for me)..
@tezran -- That would be ONE solution, to avoid having people waste HOURS trying to get in there too early... But I had already started destroying red lyrium veins in the Hinterlands -- so if there were MORE at the storm coast, but not marked on the map during my first visit there, then that would only make things MORE confusing, like: "Where the heck are the rest of the red lyrium veins?!?" So I kinda like the fact that they're marked, even before I can access them.. Because it causes me to make a mental note, to come back later.. I think the BEST solution (to avoid having people waste TOO MUCH time there, on their first visit) would be: the party members should SAY something, if you go there too early, and the door is locked.. Something like, "Hmmm, it seems to be locked. Maybe we should come back later, when we have more information about this area." -- There already ARE other parts of the game, where they DID exactly that.. Like when you first go to the Forbidden Oasis temple, and you try to open certain doors, but can't yet -- then one of your party members will actually SAY, "Hmm, I think we need more shards before we can open this door." -- Well, perhaps this red lyrium cave on the coast, could have been another one of those situations where your companions dialog would TELL you to go away and come back later... But unfortunately, the party remains silent, while we waste time trying to get in there too early...
Oh well... Happy Gaming, everybody! I love the Dragon Age series!
