Hawke gives a very good reason why Isabela is not with her, fits my Hawke.
Still makes me a very sad panda! Heh.

Mind spoiling? My Hawke accidentally romanced Isabela, and I thought it seemed like a fling. I could see Bioware treating it either way, though.Hawke gives a very good reason why Isabela is not with her, fits my Hawke.
Virtually all of the previous game companions were someones favorite. After Origins, all reappeared or could potentially reappear in dlc , etc. based upon your earlier decisions. Only Shale & Sten disappeared along with the elusive Warden.
After DA2, I don't know what anyone expected, but that game was tied exclusively to Kirkwall, so I'm not surprised that those companions aren't prominent in Inquisition (other than Varric & Hawke, who will appear).
This is one of the factors that I like about this franchise. Secondary characters later rise to prominence: Merrill, Isabela, Cassandra and then there are the unexpected cameos (Inquisition has several); plus as a bonus, cool DA characters introduced outside the games themselves have been incorporated into the new release - so no complaints here.

My Hawke was viscountness so this might change for you.
Outside of Varric being the only controllable one, yeah.
That's too risky, better remove romance from the Keep.
Hawkes exact words are "I hope she's having fun, but not tooo much fun..."

Well, I suppose most would want Hawke's love interest who is said in the epilogue to still accompany him/her, to perhaps accompany him/her when he/she shows up. Add in Bethany or Carver as logical tag-alongs or soldiers on either side of the war, or with the Grey Wardens.
Anders/Justice (if survived) very much have a stake in the Mage/Templar war, as well as a history dealing with tears in the fade.
An argument could be made that Fenris would also fit in nicely somewhere, given his connection to Tevinter, hatred of magic, and the obvious draw many would have to him with his lyrium grafts.
Sebastian is a prince of Starkhaven -- it wouldn't be an unreasonable stretch to potentially see him again (despite the major dose of boring)
Beyond that, I'll agree, Aveline and Merrill have no major reasons to get involved (save Merrill being involved with Hawke).
Not arguing that all of these SHOULD appear in the game, but most of them COULD fit somewhere without being too forced, on an individual basis. But sure, I don't want the game to get too crazy with the fan service.

Spoiler
*sigh* So I guess they've come up with similar excuses for the other LIs. This is one of the main reasons I dislike having Hawke appear again. Just leave them all alone if it's going to be this way. Why bother with romance in the Keep?
Yes, I'm pretty disappointed about it. I was hoping from some cameos. The Inquisition being an international organization would have been a good excuse for people passing through. Well at least I have the silver lining of not having to see Sebastian again.
I won't remove Sebastian from my World State until Bioware give me the opportunity to kill him. I would wish death on no other companion except for Sebastian, and the implication that he dies in the Chantry if you don't recruit him isn't enough for me.

Can't say I disagree. I've never murder knifed (or betrayed in Fenris and Isabela's cases) a companion before, but I would make an exception for Sebastian.
I haven't played the game yet but ... why should I? Varric is there, he was kinda the focal point of DA2 so that's enough. All the thers I would be rather more annoyed they aren't with Hawke anymore.
I prefer each new hero having their own set of companions, making them unique. Otherwise it really is a bit like, I don't know, getting Worf on DS9 to push the ratings, or have Kirk in Star Tek Generations to engage old fans, or bring Boba Jango Fett into the prequels for no other reasons than pleasing the fans annoyed by Jar Jar Binks (oh my, I take that back, Jar Jar was original, but I rather take any other char over this abomination!!!)
I prefer new companions for each new game rather than reusing old companions. I don´t have a problem with Varric because he was, to some extend, a protagonist more than a companion in DA 2, and neither do I have a problem with Hawke returning for a cameo or whatever and Leliana having a presence in DA: Inquisition, but for the companions list I prefer new ones rather than old ones.

I don't think each game should have the same companions, but I do think they should at least appear, even if it's only for a conversation. 2 lines from Varric isn't much, really. I still want to know what happened after Velanna ran off, and see Sigrun again (despite Bioware seemingly forgetting that they exist), or Oghren. The characters are what I like most in Bioware games, seeing as the stories are usually pretty cliche (here's the villain, gather allies and kill him), but the characters keep me coming back and engaged in the world.
I just wanted Carver.

Not even Carver wants Carver!
...just kidding.
