Also, even funnier than Shepard's "STEEV!!" if Steve lives is Ashley's "Eyrarghhurhugh!" if Steve dies. The way the squad is just standing in their normal static pose whilst she's verbally seizing makes it.

Kaidan does it too, as well as James. At least in James's case it makes sense since they knew each other for quite some time.

Remember its a video game. If a film shows 'passionate romance' it can be a masterpiece of storytelling, if a video  game showed it, it would be 'turning the world's children (sensationalist newspapers have never seemed to know anything about age ratings or demographics)  into vile rapists and sex maniacs' or something.

I'm certain that this is the explanation for the 'coyness' of Bioware's 'sex' scenes. I'm not saying they should make them gratuitous, but, yeah, they could be a bit more meaningful.

Oh yeah no, that was the issue.

The problem was the achievement poping up right at the same time as the kiss occured. This is so wrong on so many levels.

And that the game "forgot" that the love scene happened just a second ago as Liara would just switch back to her generic dialog options without recognizing Shep in a special way.

I thought that the romantic scenes in ME1 were very nice. They showed whats going on without showing anything sexual. The scenes in ME3 were generally not very convincing somehow. But overall ok i guess.

The Shadow Broker revelation and ensuing boss fight. Deciding to share info with the Shadow Broker was the toughest decision for me in ME1. I must have taken a good ten minutes pondering the morale implications and the possible ways that decision could bite me in the ass in the future games. And then... This ? A total WTF moment for me and a waste of a good character prospect imo (I guess they thought that with the Illusive Man there was one too many secretive powerful player in the galaxy).

Start at 1:23.

That awkward moment when Jack says Shepard can't dance, and then proceeds to do a more awkward dance than Shepard on the dance floor...

I'd say Shepard's dance is more awkward :) It reminds me of my own dancing lol :D

The Shepard Shuffle is a classic... Seriously though, I only say Shepard's dance is less awkward because it's more subtle and less movement. Jack, out of nowhere, begins flailing her arms spontaneously and is completely out of sync with Shepard. I found that to be much more awkward especially since Jack's dancing didn't fit the pace and progression of the music.

Femshep's 'Cortez!' is OK, but Kaidan's is a bit...much. (I'm guessing both Kaidan and Ashley both stepped on a rusty nail after saying their 'you're going to pay for that!' line) Some parts of ME3 really sound like they made minor changes to some of the script after the voices had been done and kind of muddled the voice samples up.

If you're talking about moments that just seemed flat-out weird, I nominate the parts in ME3 when you've used up the autodialogue with a crewmate, click on them again, and they say something like "Hey" or "Hello Shepard" as if they had forgotten that they'd just been having a conversation. (Yes, hello Liara - normally people say that at the start of a conversation rather than the end.)

The biggest "What?! I don't want to do that!" awkward moments were probably "machines can be broken" (some of my Shepards simply would not say that under any circumstances) and opening all the doors at once on the Purgatory prison ship. (Great idea, Shepard - open all the doors at once on a ship full of vicious criminals and corrupt guards. No way anything could *possibly* go wrong with that.) I often just spacebar both of those bits so I can imagine that something else happened instead.

Well, and not being able to challenge the Catalyst's premises.

For awkward, don't forget how Shepard and Liara stand out in the open with no cover to talk about combat strategy and the Broker just politely waits for them to finish before shooting at them again.

About the STEEEEVE, thing, I posted in the Thread "The Little Things you Just discovered" a while back that:

According to Mark Meer, he recorded many variations for Shepard's reaction to Cortez's death, depending on how much the player interacts with him. However, the game only used the "STEEVE!" recording, which was meant to be only heard if Cortez actually died and Shepard romanced him (Source: https://www.youtube....xcCaw-23LE#t=96)

I had a similar problem in Dragon Age II; it's part of why I now play with achievement/trophy notifications hidden (when it happened to me, though, it was on PS3 before the update that allowed that).

Yep. We know. It was discussed earlier. Even before Meer's explanation, that was my assumption because it would have made more sense had you been in a relationship with Cortez. It's just funny that BioWare either made a mistake or intentionally left that version in the game regardless of your interaction with Steve. Especially when Shepard goes from frantic to calm in mere moments, that was just priceless.

"I thought Asari needed other species to reproduce?"

Or something like that. To be fair though, you don't have to choose that of dialogue.

Well, if we are going to go there..

Shepard: "I heard about that. You know, they almost did the same to us."

Wrex: "It's not the same!"

Shepard: "It seems pretty much the same to me."

Wres : "So your people were infected with a genetic mutation? An infection that makes only a few in a thousand children survive birth? And I suppose it's destroying your entire species?"

Shepard: DERP

Its been awhile, but if I remember right you couldn't avoid that one either. Wasn't that exchange mandatory if you wanted Wrex to continue with the conversation?

The one about the Asari, while equally derpy, at least can be avoided by choosing another dialogue option.

I think a good general guide for game writers is that if you have to make the player-character sound like an idiot to convey game-universe history, find a different method or scene to do it. It's difficult to believe that the history of the genophage isn't fairly well-known across the galaxy, so Shepard ought to know better than to make such a stupid comparison. (IIRC, those are the Paragon/top-right choices - I never even clicked on the others, assuming they'd either be identical or even more offensive.) Same at the start of ME1 - I never have Shepard say "I thought the protheans vanished years ago," but even then, Anderson still launches into pretty much the same obviously expository dialogue.

And yet her dancing in purgatory is much better normally. Shep can dance.

Shepard telling Wrex the Turians "tried to wipe us out" in comparison to the Genophage, and then "Oh, it's not quite the same? How?" is pretty awkward. As I play through that conversation I say "No Shep. Don't say it, please!". But Shep says it. Every time, no matter what dialogue option I take... There's no escaping the awkwardness.
