As someone who was (despite my Leliana hatred to the contrary) initially intending to pick this up on Friday in the UK, all the forums have been doing is convincing me not to waste my money.

I'm leaning towards this too. It doesn't look like what they made it out to be. I think I will wait for the youtube reviews, usually I find them more insightful than anything the "professionals" have put up.

People keep throwing the word bland around, it kind of makes me want to stay away from this game. I wasn't expecting Origins either, but from the sound of it, I'm not so sure on whether I should pay for it or just save my money for some other game.

So far, the game is meh.

I will say one thing. If you are a completionist, this game is your worst nightmare.

Let's take Skyrim, for example. Its open world is chock-full of things to do--even going from Town A to town B offers tons and tons of optional content for you to do, but at the same time, it never feels like you're forced to do it.

In DAI, I'm starting to feel as though the massive open areas are just working against it. Yeah, they're great and all, but they're mostly empty, filled with respawning enemies, and there's little variety within the areas themselves (if you're in a snowy area, all you'll see is snow, if you're in a temperate area, etc.).

I also feel that experience gain is just way, way slower than it should be. This is probably a result of having minimal skills on the bar--in fact, most skill trees only offer four active skills each, meaning you have to fill up two trees to get a full bar's worth of skills. Which won't happen until level 15-ish, assuming free skill points occur as in previous DA games.

Regardless of its design, though, I do feel like leveling is really slow so far. Most RPGs have a bell curve for leveling--you get your first few levels really fast to give you some options, then the game slows down considerably in the mid-game. My XP rate slowed down at level 4. So now that I'm exploring the Hinterlands, with tons of mobs and long runs between content, I'm getting a bit tired of doing the same thing over and over and over with no variation.

I also really dislike the 8 skills max route they've taken. I know they did it to please the console players, but it's really hurt the gameplay. Most of the passive skills fall somewhere between uninspiring and boring, and there's very little synergy now, even compared to DAO.

Meh, maybe it'll get better. The main story so far isn't the most gripping thing in the world. Maybe I'll just avoid most of the sidequests since they are just so incredibly boring at this point.

As a Mast Effect fan I give you an angry stare

That sentence was directed within the realm of the Dragon age series and not necessarily the Mass Effect series. Relevance is lost upon a mention of ME.

Yeah, I like to joke about bought reviews but the way that most professional critics went on about this game being some grand return to form for Bioware and a "genuine, breathtaking landmark of gaming" now genuinely sound deeply suspicious.

You only need to breeze through the reception section of the game's Wikipedia page, then turn back to the sort of comments appearing on this forum, to realise something doesn't quite add up.

Well I never considered their opinion to be honest and I never thought to buy the game based on what they said.

I like it. The game is awesome, but the map design can be pretty weird in this game, like you have to make a long curve from the camp sometimes just to get to destination. The story is not as engaging. I don't know why, but it seems to be detached somehow. I got glitches where I got stuck. The PC design in clunky and not intuitive, need some shortcut for button like right click on the mouse to go back to the previous screen, the map is the worst map I have ever seen. The way the game terrain is designed, it needs more than just icon indicators. Otherwise, it's a very good game.

DAI is in the middle. It can't surpass Origins, (nothing ever will from BioWare) but it does conquer DA2 single-handedly. If you enjoyed DA2, you'll find yourself right at home with DAI. If you hated DA2, you'll find DAI to be at the very least a tolerable, with a hint of fun, experience.

I've never understood this. Origins is not something I look back to as a model to "surpass". The gameplay was boring and rote, and every bit as clunky as DA:I's (if not more so). The only Bioware games in recent memory with smooth and satisfying gameplay were ME2 and 3 especially. Dragon Age has been and always will be the better RP part of the RPG equation, versus Mass Effect's G part.

Well the general pattern I'm seeing here and abroad is that (technical problems aside) the game is better than DA2, but not as good as DA:O. Which is about what I expected really.

However I think I will skip the game for now. Maybe I'll catch it on sale somewhere down the road. Thank you all for your input.

Personally I'm loving the game and find the world amazing to look at. I haven't gotten far into it yet but controls are a little wonky on pc but I'm getting to use to them.

Characters are all interesting. Seems to be just an ungodly amount of things to do. Which is good as I liked finding the side stuff in Skyrim that was out of the way or off the beaten path. Compared to Origins it seems on par to me with me reserving further judgement until finished.

Any issues are not deal breaking and easily corrected. Seeing them as more a nuisance.

Hilarious.  Most users are just getting out of the Hinterlands and starting the real story and yet here people are writing it off already.

Many PS4 players seem to be happy (where are the Xboners?).

Many PC players with controllers seem to be happy so far.

And you haven't even got to the main heart of the story part - one of the main reasons you play Bioware games to begin with, or that's what I always thought.

Premature ej*ction seems to be catching on :P

Sssssshhhh that's against the supposed consensus.

People want to hear all the negatives on day one and walk away happy not buying the game until it's cheap.

How many did you find?

Jokingly, we can say those who are really into the game are just addicted to it and haven't left to post on the forums yet. Me, I have to wait due to money.

I've been having fun running around doing all the side quests in The Hinterlands for about 4 hours. I haven't gotten bored enough yet to hurry the story up yet. I do have to say that I've reset the controls on my PC for the game twice now and I'm still not completely satisfied. They are a little clunky. I miss being able to move my character around with the mouse by pressing both buttons while turning the camera at the same time. It was just easier for me, but I'm sure I'll get used to it soon enough.

I read spoilers here and elsewhere and watched some gameplay and character videos. They were interesting. The plot seems to have some good twists and lore drops. Some of the romance videos though... made me cringe a bit. Soap opera stuff.

The game looks interesting but I'm not willing to drop $60 on it. It can wait.

Thanks for summary.  Sounds like I am reading the tea leaves right on this one - I'm in for full price :P

Whereas AC Unity - that one I'll pick up much cheaper.

What game would you drop full price for?

I'd drop $60 on a new Elder Scrolls game in a New York minute (as long as it's not an MMO).

I could go into more detail about the plot since this is the spoilers section but I kept it concise. The main villain is not who I was expecting but is a welcome addition, and there's a huge twist with one of your companions at the end.

So far it is 10/10 for me. (PS4)

Having an absolute blast with it. Only encountered a single bug which was easily fixed. Slight lag sometimes for cutscenes, but nowhere near unbearable. The companions are fun, and the banter can be interesting at times especially when you get the chance to have your character join in.

I am a mage so I can't speak for other classes, but love the animations of my spells. I love that they feel like they have actual weight to them which can sometimes be absent from spellcasting in other games. I wish there were more things I could do on the run but alas that is the price for magical awesomesauce.

You got my curiosity up.  Whats the difference to you between that and DAI?

Seems to me they added a fair bit of Skyrim like features to DAI.  So what is the diff?

Inquisition exceeded my expectations and has proven immensely fun. The story is much better than DA2, and much better paced than DA:O. It's the most fun I've had with a Bioware game since Baldur's Gate 2, and has restored my faith in them. Kudos to Bioware for making their best game in a long time; don't let the haters get you down. You put a lot of hard work into this game, and it shows. I still say BG2 is better, but hey. Nostalgia.

I kinda don't get people saying the game is plain or "meh", but >opinions, right? Perhaps I'm a tad biased toward this type of game because I've been a Skyrim addict since its release. Inquisition is my new addiction, because it's proven a superior game in every way. Well, except for mods, but I can't get everything I want. And that's fine.

At the end of the day Inquisition is fun, and that's what I ultimately want most out of a game. I want a game that entertains me and draws my attention for ridiculous lengths of time; a good story or good graphics are just lagniappe, and Inquisition has both. TW2 had a great story, but it wasn't fun. Sorry, it just wasn't. Skyrim had a godawful story full of unlikeable characters (Delphine, ugh...), but it was fun. Guess which game I played more.

LOL! The Mage Master Race often does adapt faster to new situations ;)

Enjoying the energy.  Hoping for the same when I get my game tomorrow.

Happy Fade Stepping!
