Seeing as DAI brought back many mechanics from DAO that where stripped with just the tac cam and tactics menu being poor and keyboard and mouse support being rather meh, I doubt that really. If it was going a step or five further we would not be able to equip armor on companions, allow Varric to use daggers ect.

Indeed, DA:I brought back mechanics like attribute point distribution, bigger number of skills, expanded skill bars, auto-attack, healing spells, highlighting game objects, tooltips...

Yeah... it removed all those mechanics or striped them down from Origins. What exactly did it bring back from origins?

People who expected the game to be DA2 part 2 also hate the game. Its seems the people who knew the game was going to be its own version of Dragon age like the game alot.

Eeeeexactly :P

People expecting DAO 2 or DA2: 2 are just begging to be let down. Lets get this straight people, you wont be getting DAO2 or DA2:2, so please stop being pissy about it.

Inquisition looks beautiful graphically (art style included), it plays wonderfully (excluding bugs and possibly some of the PC controls) and the story is what I wanted. Its expansive, it drives me and Im in love with it basically.

For me, the game is fantastic.

Enjoying the game so far, I haven't seen anything that is tremendously mind blowing yet. However, one thing I love already is how the choices from the keep are talked about, I am hoping they also have effects in game too.

Things I hate already are that it is taking forever to level up. I'm playing on hard, I want to do Nightmare, actually started off on nightmare but A.I was retard so I dropped down. A.I is retard especially Varric using Bianca but getting too close to the enemies. A.I also wasting Mana/Stamina which is why I want to level up higher so I can manage my characters more. A.I facerolls on enemies of equal level on hard.

IDK it just hasn't felt amazing yet, good game I guess.

Nightmare is tactical camera the whole time, for me.  I'm not sure why your AI is so late, though.  You should tell it be more punctual.

With a controller, it's surprisingly fun. With mouse and keyboard? It was a nightmare. Too many buttons trying to do too many things all at the same time. It wants to be a tactical rpg and, at the same time, an action game. The controller manages to hybridize the two pretty well. I'm sure some people are having fun with the good ole M + K, but I was miserable.

It's buggy too, I've had characters walk through boulders and the camera get stuck on the environment. The sound occasionally cuts out and I have to get into a loading menu to get it working again. All in all, it's fun but at the same time the PC port feels like it's trying to be too many things at once and not succeeding at any of them. Console is better, but fetch quests should be eased into and there are a lot of them in early game. Kill ten rats variations ad nauseum. They also dropped a level twelve rift just off the path to a level 4 quest area which is just plain mean. It didn't kill me, but yikes.

Anyway, it's a mixed bag. Some good, some bad, some plain old meh. I keep hearing the game picks up around 8-15 hours in, but that is a lot of fetch quests between here and there.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the game at this point. It's just sitting next to my laptop unopened. I'm going to call Amazon and see how long they will accept returns on games. I honestly feel stupid in a way having paid for it.

Then I go and look at Dorian' mission on YouTube and it brings back to my mind what I loved about Bioware games. That alone makes me want to keep it. I'm still very conflicted.

For their first open world game in recent years I've been really quite surprised at how good it is.

Enjoying it very much, wonderful world they crafted.

To me the problem is Biowares reputation. It is a fine game. Worth the coat of admission. Ill play it and mostly enjoy it. But much like early Blizzard games Bioware was a company who made games i would purchase and love and play all night and wait up for, reading all i could about them. Now, while their games are good, they are just another game I get before I move on to the next.

If you always wanted to play a Dragon Age mmo offline, you should like this game a lot.

If you wanted to play DA:O or DA2 you might be disappointed.

If wanted to play an enjoyable Dragon age.

My wishes have been fulfilled.

So far I'm definitely enjoying the game. Great character development and a massive world to explore and shape. I'd say for the most part the professional reviews nailed it. As for the user reviews, they generally amount to "I HATE EA!" Some of them bring up valid technical issues for PC and there were some questionable design choices in this game, but nothing worth dwelling on too much. If you play the game on Nightmare it's every bit as tactical as the first game, but the easier modes are scaled down considerably compared to Origins. Honestly, you can't trust user reviews when it comes to Bioware games. Any people dumb and biased enough to claim games like Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age 2 are among the worst ever made can never be taken seriously. Professional reviews do touch on the games problems while actually giving it credit for the many things it does right. It's not just "I DON'T LIKE THE UI!! F#$@ EA!! 0/10!!!"

Problem is when professional reviewers fail to mention the glaring problems with the PC version... how many reviewers touched on the topic of the inept tactical camera, the amount of bugs, the lagginess of cutscenes, the general performance problems, the lack of proper mouse support and keybinds, the UI not being designed for PC use (especially inventory), the lack of tooltips, the lack of auto-attack, the huge amount of filled content in the form of mmo design sidequests?

Most reviewers went straight over those issues, and only after buying the game did i find myself with a very different "beast" than i was expecting from all that i read about the game in "professional" review publications and sites.

I can't speak consensus, naturally, but - without denying the impact of the control problems - I am extremely impressed. I'm quite glad I've taken three days off from work to play.

The world and characters get a perfect score, the immersion factor is off the scale.

Actually, the reviewers went into some detail about the shaky tactical camera, but most reviews were done on the PS4 it seems.  They also did mention the sheer amount of sidequests, but that they all served the greater purpose of building and expanding the inquisition and bore relevant results.  This is a huge game, so not every little quest is going to be epic, but they did a great job of tying everything together and giving all these errands a sense of overall purpose.

Besides the technical issues that reside specifically with the PC the reviewers did a good job of touching almost everything about the game.  You should try actually reading them.  Users are either too biased or far too quick to completely disregard a game over trivial annoyances.  Overall this game is quite an amazing accomplishment.

A few minor bugs nothing major, 30 FPS lock on cut scenes needs to be removed, I feel like the game with armor has been dumbed down, now instead of having a helmet, chest, boots, and gloves now you just have armor and helmet a bit disappointed in that department since its going to lack real customization without modding. It is fun but don't expect anything innovative, its like bioware treaded very carefully and did what is known to already work, I do say the world maps are huge to the point they don't feel like your fully being tunneled, but as in a huge open world like a TES game nope it is not that. Graphically its nice, but everything for the most part looks wet with tons of normal maps to the point it has you going meh after seeing it for so many hours. I would not pay the premium fun game yes, exciting yes, but not anything amazing that sets it apart from any other RPG out there. Its not a bad game by any means, its not a super awesome blow my socks of game, but it is a good game at 40-50 USD for the Digital Deluxe would had been ideal for launch considering the tiny bugs, the dumbing down of many aspects versus past DA games. The big world maps I do admit are a great improvement over DAO and DAII, that map with the dots got old after awhile, here its for the most part done away with unless your in the war room....If your a Dragon Age fan I would say get it, but most gamers I would suggest waiting for a patch and a nice discount that brings the digital deluxe down to the standard edition pricing. Only thing I am disappointed about but they told us on launch is our saves from past games not carrying over like they used to... I personally would had loved our specialty goodies from DAO and DA II carry over to DA III, the main reason I think that is not happening is the engine change, and a lack of effort/time put in by bioware. It would had been nice if multiplayer was not implemented and things like I mentioned above got put into the focus of its development with their assets on hand both staff and equipment. I would say its not a crap game, nor a bad game, nor would I say its amazing, or awesome its about ok to good with the rating system needle towards more of good than ok.

This game is awesome! I've only played about 4 hours of it, but I'm in love with it. Its combat is fun and fast paced and since I'm playing on easy I don't have to worry about tactics (because I'm terrible at them). This means I can get to the stuff I love the most: the character interactions, exploration, ingredient gathering, crafting, and nug chasing.

I literally chased a nug across a large stretch of the Hinterlands and straight into that dragon's nest. I didn't realize it until after it one-shot my entire party. I love it when a game makes me feel that engrossed in it's world.

If there is one thing that's been a consistent problem for me with the game, its the camera in combat. It pulls in too close when I lock on and snagged on the environment and when I try to move it for a better view, it switches targets on me.

I also ran into this level 8 bear that wouldn't let my level 4 party dissengage from combat and chased me all over the Hinterlands from the farms, right up to the gates of Redcliff village. We still managed to kill it eventually, but it was really annoying none the less.

I am enjoying the game immensely.  It does many of the things I thought DAO did poorly, like make your race choice matter.  Not in 'extra plotline in a box' sense, but in the day to day conversations.  I really like that.

Its got a lot of area to explore and lot of simple missions scattered about.  There could be some better guidance as to what you "should" be doing.  Its very easy to spend so much time in the hinterlands you don't get around to doing Orlais until you outlevel some of the early stuff.  Not to mention, most of your companions are gated behind the first VR mission.  Players used to "clear this zone, go to the next" are going to be wrong footed by the design.

I'm not far enough along to judge the full story implementation, but I like the feel of starting with nothing and getting more powerful as an organization.  Never felt like I had an army or real allies in DAO.  It does here.  The core story is 'chosen one stops magic disaster'.  Not exactly my favorite, but it worked okay in DAO and it seems to be working okay here.  At least I can constantly say "no, you ******, I'm not the new prophet of the maker. I'm just a dwarf with a magic fist"  :D

As far as the controls go, I play on the PC.  I am not having difficulty with them, though the tactical cam seems to be better as something you do all the time or almost never. Switching back and forth is clunky.  I think its not the "KbnM" group so much as the "mouselook" players that hate the controls.  I've always wasd moved so don't miss the mouselook mode.  The left click is full attack does cause me to make lots of random attack animations, because i tend to want to left click on things when I need to right click on them.  I find it more eye rolling than intolerable.

I'm finding combat a lot of fun, though its not very hard on normal (don't need to use the tac cam or control my allies very often).  i reckon I'll up the difficulty on subsequent playthroughs.

The only bug I have encountered so far is a DX crash bug.  I had to update my drivers to fix it. It still happens once in a while using the skull viewer things, but its not crippling.  The conversation flags so far have all be spot on, which seems to be the other bug that is getting a lot of mention.

Crafting is pretty simple and gives a pretty good amount of customization.  The loot animation is a bit tedious, but F followed by space command structure is okay.  I do like that there are things you can find with Search that you can't just see.  Mostly collectibles and plot elements, so you aren't required to spam search over every foot of ground, which would suck.

I think its a bit better than DAO and definitely fun to play.  It clearly doesn't have any of the "omg, we have to cut corners" elements that hurt DA2.

Oh.. and most importanly, the characters so far are awesome.

Reviews did nothing to inform us of the removal of previous DA features like having skill tooltips, clear inventory screens, auto-attack, toggle to run/walk, highlight environment objects, the skill number being less than half of the ones in DA:O.

None of those features are trivial.

Absolutely loving it so far.  Yes, I had to remap some keys and get used to new PC controls, but such is life.  The really fun thing for me is the fact that enemies are not scaled anymore.  I was out adventuring in the Hinterlands and all of the sudden found my level 4 characters getting into fights with level 12 monsters and getting wiped.  I also like the fact that you have a limited amount of potions and have to go back to replenish if you run out.  Kind of reminds me of the old corpse runs in the original EQ if you want to get back to where you were.

Like an earlier poster said, I get a Directx crash bug occasionally which I hope gets fixed somehow as I updated drivers too.  There are tons and tons of small quests.  It does actually feel as if I am trying to unite the land.  I am just getting into the parts where I meet all the companions, but they are very distinct and colorful so far.

I guess I am in the camp that really enjoys it so far.  Of course no game is ever perfect, but it is worth my money.

Loving it so far, full of the wonderful little details I expect from a DA game - codex entries - and the codex cards are stunning - lots of dialogue with advisors and companions, it's nice to see my import being recognised, war table is a great addition. Not sure about not being able to steer with the mouse, and I'm not used to combat yet, but I'll get there.

Yep, definitely feeling happy with my purchase :)

I've never understood this. Origins is not something I look back to as a model to "surpass". The gameplay was boring and rote, and every bit as clunky as DA:I's (if not more so). The only Bioware games in recent memory with smooth and satisfying gameplay were ME2 and 3 especially. Dragon Age has been and always will be the better RP part of the RPG equation, versus Mass Effect's G part.

What's there not to understand? You expressed your opinion, I've expressed mine. Our opinions differ from each other, and we came to a place called "disagreement". It's natural.

I sat here all day at work yesterday reading these negative, doom and gloom, posts about how awful kbm was for this game (people a terrible console port to pc is Dark Souls 2. Doubt me go try that game with a mouse and keyboard and DA:I's flaws will seem minor).

So I loaded it up with trepidation. Played two hours. I don't get it. I mean the negativity. There are some changes to how you move compared to the first two games but nothing that someone with more than the patience of a gnat could not get used to. By the end of the 2 hours I was moving with ease. There are a lot of games that use wasd and you type don't you? If kbm problems are the biggest gripe I don't get it.

There also seems to be a fair bit of you listening to trolls here and on metacritic who are doing your fair best to talk yourselves out of it. It looks beautiful. It runs pretty darn good. Solas is already one of the best characters. I wasn't sold on him pre-game but now I want to know what his whole deal is. Can't wait to play more of it.

My impression is that DAI is very different from DAO and DA2. I feel that it has a lot of Elder Scrolls DNA in it. It is freshening for me, I like the option/freedom of roaming the huge maps, collecting things, enjoying the beautiful sceneries when I am not in the mood to follow the main plot.

In short, it feels like Elder Scrolls with better companion and a stronger sense of purpose.
