Anyone know how much more effective 2 handed DPS is than sword and shield DPS?

S&S has good single target dps, but lacks the aoe power of 2H.

It's viable, and indeed fairly useful if you don't want a squishy 2H warrior in melee range. Melee DPS tend to have the shortest life expectancy on Nightmare.

 

However, you will want someone else in your party with enough AoE damage.

Imo, I think it is viable when heavily specced into Reaver. In the best situation, what would result would be a warrior who does less damage than the 2h but has greater survivability meaning that you can let your health dip further down than a 2h could, increasing Reaver damage.

Reaver also helps to alleviate the lack of AoE since Dragon Rage hits in wide arcs. This is all from watching videos, not gameplay confirmed.
