You can disrupt Fade Rifts to attack Demons. No you can't

You can not interrupt while the demons are spawning, only afterwards. Also, any attack will interrupt the cast, so you must have no aggro at all. (stealth really works well here). Once the rift crystallizes, you can click it, usually immediately after the demons spawn and every 15 seconds or so afterwards. (it works really well, the stunning and damaging of all the demons this way)

You can use dispel to stop them spawning from the rift.

@Kantr:  Templar Spell Purge should work as well.

Not sure if anyone may have already pointed this out, but sometimes, there's a spot on the ground, directly under the rift that you can interact with to disrupt them. The on by the Archway that's not the area transition in the Hinterlands is an example of such a rift. Once I figure that out, it was smooth sailing.

You can also only disrupt them when they are crystalline.    After they spawn a new round of creatures, it takes them a bit to turn back into a crystal.

The letter F? What does that do?

Yeah, the people in videos I have seen having a hard time with it are all trying to click on the crystal.  In tactical mode there is just a spot on the ground under the crystal to click on, much easier imo.

"F" is the alternative to using right click

I have been running that around goddamn temple listening to Cassandra spouting off : "Disrupt the rift"";clicking on everything and nothing works, for Christ sake. When I say nothing working I friggin mean it.  This game isn't fun at all. I am hating it. It's a good thing I didn't have to pay for it. I am going back to Skyrim. The hell with it. Thanks for all of your help.

You might have a glitch. Did you ever try re-loading?

You can use dispel to stop them spawning from the rift.

I tried this in the cave rift in Hinterlands, but I was only able to dispel a single demon that was spawning.  The reticle was too small to cover more than one.

Is there any way to dispel multiple spawn points?

On a related note, is there any way to tell what type of enemy is about to spawn?  I figured I'd try to dispel the Despair demon, but all of the spawn points looked identical.

I dont think theres a way to tell what it will spawn. They rifts dont change what they spawn so if you die you'll know what to expect but when they spawn and where is random

I know many of you think that I am a whiny old man. But what you don’t seem to understand is that, for one, I am set in my ways. I love video games that were designed for PC not consoles. I love games that can be modified to suit the player’s needs. Regardless of what many of you may think it is my fantasy and I will play “my” game accordingly. That is why I love DAO and DA2. That’s why I love Skyrim. That’s why I love the Fall Out franchise.  That’s why I love the Mass Effect franchise.

Mass Effect was designed for Xbox.

F is the "interact" button which you can use it to open doors, loot, and even disrupt the rift.

I clicked all over that rift where the meeting was held, but I saw no "hand" to indicate that you could click on anything around that pillar. Everybody died, because i could not "right click" on anything. I tried every way imaginable. So, no you can't.

Get near the green blob and hit the letter F.

Geez I didn't realize PC players were having this much trouble with the rifts/controls in general. I have some issues with controls on ps4 but apparently nowhere near the amount of trouble you guys are having.

Do you have this much trouble closing the rifts as well (after the demons are done spawning)?

There are some rifts where the spawn points are close enough together to be covered by a single Dispel.  Otherwise, bring Cassandra and/or another mage.  I have heard other folks say they can sometimes avoid the second wave completely just by pausing to dispel the spawn points.  (But I don't bother anymore)

Also, after a while, you start learning which positions are more likely to spawn annoying demon. Ruptures that are unusually far away from the rift tend to spawn ranged demons like wraiths or despair demons. Symmetrical rupture patterns are going to spawn a lot of weak demons, like wraiths or shades (these are also the patterns that are most likely to have clusters you can get with one dispel).

They're usually pretty good about setting it up so that tightly clustered ruptures -> little demons, while one rupture far from the others -> often a bigger demon. That way you have to make choices about whether you dispel many little demons, or one big one.

It should be noted that taking any damage at all will prevent you from being able to disrupt the rift. I've done it a bunch of times now so it is possible, but the controls for it are absolutely finicky as hell. There have been several rifts where I had to move all over the battlefield until I found the apparent "sweet spot" where it would let me disrupt the rift. Really annoying.

LOL at taking several hours to kill that first demon...  I am admittedly one of the worst gamers alive, and it certainly didn't take me hours to figure it out.  And you keep saying glad you didn;t have to pay for the game, which to me is just nothing short of bragging... Ooooh, look at you, you're special cuz you didn;'t have to pay for it.  Every post I see from you just reads like some whiny pre-pubescent slag...

And, I am proud of it too. Incidentally, I am on my eighth play through. So, I really hate this game a lot. And, FYI, I went through hell with EA banning my account for no reason and getting them to lift the ban. DAI was their peace offering. Are we clear now?

Ah, another "victim" of a peace offering. I had a store download problem with another EA game, could not download items I paid real cash for. It took me working with support for nearly a year to get it resolved. The gave me DAO and all DLC as a peace offering.

I had a heck of a time the first time I played DAI, that Rift confused me too - back up where I could see it and, too far away to interact, get close and can't see the darned thing. (Then I bothered to read the keybindings and, solved it. Like you, I detest tac cam, it isn't because of how it works or doesn't work, I don't like it in any game. You can't pause and tell friends what to do in a real fight, why do so in a game?

I think all that helped me not get as far off track as to what to do was playing the game Rift (By Trion) there you attack a mini boss at the center of a rift to close the rift so, I assumed I was supposed to do something with the center of the thing and, it was clear pretty fast that the mini boss wasn't going to stay there and take it like they do in Rift so, I had to find plan B.

Yeah, OP. The PC controls are terrible. The spousal unit also got stuck on that first battle. I came in and finished it for him, because I'm used to finding the tiny spot where you have to click to activate the rift. It's easier on a normal rift- this one doesn't have very good line of sight because it's smashed against the pillar.

But I'm not going to lie. The controls are frustrating. Forget the tactical camera unless you play with a controller. Put the difficulty down and try to enjoy it for the story. I do think it's worth it.

As I stated earlier I am on my eight play through. I enjoy playing a (female) Mage both Human and Elf. Yet, even on my eighth play through I am still learning new things. But, every now and then I revert back to playing Skyrim, because of being able to mod the game and make it my own.

It is always faster to simply dps the demons down.  disrupting the rift is neat but overall minimally effective.  It would have been better if it had some kind of stun effect on demons regardless of immunities and stripped barrier/guard.  But it is crap.

Other issues - some fade rifts are in an awkward/high place and are difficult to mouse over because the camera is less than optimal for PC at least.
