PC Controls - Do They Take Time to Get Used To?

I've been playing for about 5 hours now on my PC with a keyboard/mouse. You have to hold down right-click to move the camera around and it's really annoying. In the Witcher 2 and almost every other third-person game doesn't require you to hold a button to move the camera. I understand you can use A and D as well, but that does not feel natural.

Annoyed, I started using an Xbox 360 controller which worked much better and felt more fluid than the keyboard/mouse.

Does anyone know how to change the controls for PC to have the camera move without holding down the right button on the mouse?

Thanks :D

It has been taking awhile to learn the keyboard yet again. I'd be happy if I could find some sort of manual that might reveal how my party can rest up, maybe heal a bit.

Honestly, there's nothing but anguish down the kb+m path. The game was built for controllers and we'll all be happier if we just accept that.

It's actually quite a fun game once you let go of the keyboard rage.

i have a hard time with it too . Plus there are two keys which when combined make my screen leave the full window mode to a smaller window . ( same as when using alt-tab ) which puts me out of game.

Played it for an hour but the pc controls really suck. Will have to see if the keybindings and configuration settings will let me change it to something less rage inducing. I would have been perfectly fine if they left the basic controls as what ME3 did

If you think of it like a 3rd person action/adventure RPG instead of a cRPG........then your half way there.

Like other action games, bind A and D to move/strafe left and right rather than turning. Hold right mouse button down to change camera angle and turn.

Forget about all the automotation previous DA games had like autoattack, auto followe opponent, auto move to loot etc.....its all done manually now like other action games.

It does take a while to get used to.....even if your used to playing other 1st and 3rd person action games.

It is slightly annoying, especially if you're getting back into a fresh session. I feel like I have to accustom myself to it every time I go to play. After a while you get used to it though.

Both DAO and DA2 required you to hold down the right mouse button to move the camera when in 3rd person...

A gaming mouse helps me out.

The game is obviously designed to be played with a controller, the mouse & keyboard controls are poor at best.

A very nice, idea. Thank you, sir.

For someone who uses both PC and console controllers I say it doesn't take that long at all. Within the prologue you can or at least I did get used to the controls fairly quickly. Only thing I found annoying was no dodge roll. Want to back up quickly? You have to stop attacking and run back then attack again.

I get used to, after 2 or 3 hs playing. You can rebind some keys in the controllers option, it helped for me. The devs said that they are making patches, for some of these issues.

I'm using my PC as a console stand-in, lol. Because I wasn't about to go and buy an xbox when I had a perfectly good laptop.

So I've plugged into my big screen tv, via HDMI, and plugged in my wired usb controller.

Life is good. :)

Played it last night for the first time, and had a horrible time of it with the controls. Today, I restarted with a new character - an archer - and sleeping on it seems to have helped. I find it more manageable today. Still annoying, but I'm hoping I'll get properly accustomed to it as I go along. But if I could have the option of having the game with controls similar to the earlier games in the series, I'd switch in a heartbeat.

Holding down the right mouse button is exactly how the other Dragon Age games were

The keyboard and mouse controls are taking me a long time to get used to, but I expected they would.  Until I get used to things, I'm just turning down the difficulty.

At first they where a little funky but after some re-binding of the keys it's getting easier, not perfect but doable. I definitely recommended at least changing strafe to A and D.

I've rebound/swapped a few key bindings to better suit my style of play - TAB for Spam Search/V for Target Next Enemy; Space for Pause/ALT for Jump - but I think I need to change a few more as the number of times I've LMB-clicked to interact with something and then loosed an arrow in it's general direction by mistake is a little embarrassing.

The Left Mouse Button is the one hanging me up, too. I guess I expect the LMB to be context sensitive and it's not.  I'll get used to it in time. I think most of these control issues are caused by the move from Bioware's own Lycium engine to the Frostback 3 Engine. We'll see how things progress.

As an aside, when I played Fable Anniversary, the original controls were.... unconventional, yeah that's the word. After a few days, they dropped an updated control scheme and left the old ones in place. By that time I had adjusted to the "unique" control scheme and never bothered to change.

For someone who plays various games at the same time, it doesn't really take long to get used to the KB+M control. It is actually very similar to most of RPG (especially MMO) controls. The need to press basic attack or left mouse button all the time can be stressful though, auto-attack is enabled in the tactical mode. I actually like what bioware has done with it - you could go for all action-y combat, or you could go for all tactical combat. The one thing I don't like about is that character won't move in the middle of the attack animation; my mage quizzi gets a lot of hits because she just won't move to evade the coming attack.

If you think the game was built for controllers you aren't very good at PC games. They definitely did a good job at making console playable but the most rewarding experience is kb/M. Please find my control scheme in this forum as I own in real-time with 34 distinct combat commands... I would have to ask you to get on my lvl. This is most definitely a PC experience in it's highest form... not a controller game. Try again.

This is not "most definitely a PC experience..."
I would have to ask you to get a life if you consider yourself higher "lvl" than me. This is the real world humans don't level up.
