since we do not have a storage chest, i am tempted to sell my valuables since they are just taking up space. anyone knows whether they are useful or are they like the junk items from DA2?

I'd like to know this as well. In the prologue I saw that when the player picked up some valuables, a quest popped up that said 'keep for later'. It was unclear if those items would be automatically sold when picking the 'sell all valuables' option. I hope they are automatically kept from being sold. DA2 was great in that it kept it separate.

I sell the ones that I cannot inspect.  Like the different idols and toys.  The items you collect after, in my case, defeating the demons and monsters I can take them to be used in study.  I just carefully read the item before selling.

I am sad there isn't an 'infinite chest', just got used to hording everything.

They are essentially junk items from DA2, but yields a much better profit.
Don´t sell the creature research items though, they give you exp once you turn them in (in the room left of the war room in haven)

There is a 'buy-back' function.  I don't know yet whether it's on a timer or anything.

I had a statue of Mafarath or something that I was wondering about.  As it was in the same pile as generic gemstones, I assumed it was just junk and sold it.  I hope that wasn't a mistake.

I'm at this conundrum myself. I made a save point at the vendor in Haven in case I found out I needed these items... I understood why no chest in the camp DA:O for role-play purposes but I'm at a loss why not at our main bases. (i.e. Haven, Skyhold).
