Pretty dissapointed with the graphics. DA2 looked better in a lot of ways, and ran better. Sure I can put up the graphics is so many ways but I quickly lose performance. For how my DA2 looked it played very well.
Graphics are underwhelming

Do you mean the game in old-gen consoles or what? If on PC, there is no way it will be worse than DA2 (I can say that since I play on PC).

I had to put my graphics on low just so the characters could move properly.

Mmmh... without screenshots or further details (platform? OS?) we can't possibly tell if it's a problem on your end (and, if so, how to fix it).
I quite enjoy the graphics. Probably not the best EVARRR but very decent and often impressive due to the spectacular environments.

What are you computer specs and what video card are you running it through?
That's going to be the major part of the problem.
I can't wait till NVidia adds Dragon Age to the NVidia Experience so I can optimize it.

I'm on a PC, and my point about the graphics is that to have DAI look as good as DA2 in very high settings it performs choppy.

I'm on PC, I have everything maxed on ultra with textures on that setting above ultra, faded whatever its called, and the game doesn't look any better than dragon age 2 to be honest, and it performs a lot worse.

The characters look 'horrible' for 2014, IMO. A lot of the 'Talking Bits' just feel like they were cut-paste from Mass Effect 3 (as for textures of the models and their animations). Like, they just borrowed all the code from ME3 for all those scenes and didn't change/update anything.
The 'World' itself looks very beautiful, and the level designers get a big thumbs up to me. But my first reaction when I saw my Warrior wasn't "Damn! He's awesome looking!". It was, "Omg, someone turn down the shine on this armor! Is it glossy plastic?!" The plate, imo, looks bad; and the "Golden Cloth" on one of the main characters looks horrible as well.
Maybe I'm just spoiled though... as I'm coming from playing Shadows of Mordor.

It's not the game, and DA:I's beyond DA2. It's likely your PC's about to fritz out on you.

No, you don't. It looks better on Medium-High. You might not like the stylized art style.

Running on Ultra settings on my PC and it looks fantastic. At the very least it looks much better than the previous Dragon Age games.
If complaining about graphics while admitting you have them on low settings makes you happy OP, great, otherwise upgrade your computer and enjoy the visuals.

Well then...the problem is clearly your PC specs, not the game itself.
No one can criticise DAI for having bad graphics, because the truth of the matter (and Frostbite) is that this game has spectacular graphics, even if you don't like the art style.

I didn’t like the heavily stylized art of DA2, what with plastic comically exaggerated people and all. Mods made it tolerable. DAI is a huge step (back) toward realism.
Fwiw, ymmv, I think the game looks amazing.

Ridiculous. The graphics are amazing, some of the best that we have ever seen in a computer RPG.

Even on PC's medium settings the game looks far better than DA2.
It might be a matter of your own personal taste, unless you're playing from previous gen consoles.

Im on PS4 and yes some things do have low texture quality but there is also a lot that looks great imo, especially the clothing, they have done a great job on that. The hair could be a bit better but other than that i think it looks great.

I didn't think DA2 looked good on any setting. The plasticky artificiality was everywhere. Everything was too smooth.
Well I just finished a playthrough of DA2 and I used this mod that actually made the bigger areas decent looking.
Not claiming it was anything amazing, but no plastic from what I saw

I'm not sure what card the OP has, but I have an R290 and can max everything (except antialias, which is at 2x) without a hint of choppiness. You don't need a 700 dollar card to max this game and it looks about 10 times better than DAII did.
