Are you sure you are disliking the graphics and not the aesthetics? It's a common mistake to make. The game looks pretty darned amazing, if you dislike the new art direction that is understandable though.
And that's a fair point. My distaste for DA2's visuals probably has a lot to do with my dislike of the art direction. Are you sure you are disliking the graphics and not the aesthetics? Having just finished a rerun of DA II literally one day before the game's release, I can tell you that the graphics in Inquisition are 1000 times better.
The characters look 'horrible' for 2014, IMO. A lot of the 'Talking Bits' just feel like they were cut-paste from Mass Effect 3 (as for textures of the models and their animations). Like, they just borrowed all the code from ME3 for all those scenes and didn't change/update anything.
The 'World' itself looks very beautiful, and the level designers get a big thumbs up to me. But my first reaction when I saw my Warrior wasn't "Damn! He's awesome looking!". It was, "Omg, someone turn down the shine on this armor! Is it glossy plastic?!" The plate, imo, looks bad; and the "Golden Cloth" on one of the main characters looks horrible as well.
Maybe I'm just spoiled though... as I'm coming from playing Shadows of Mordor.
Just a note, I am running at max settings across the board and the rest of the world looks pretty nice.
Spot on with the glossy plastic look of the armor! The heavy armor / plate needs an overhaul, period. DA1/2 had some solid looking armor compared to this, and yes, I feel like the characters could look a hell of a lot better, as it's looking more and more like a console port but some supposed "special love" for the pc gamers on.... not sure what actually =(
I really want this horrible looking costume party to end so I can play what I expected to find in a DA game, with a look and tone that actually "fits". This new radical look / feel is complete backwards progress and it shows us what happens when a game company tries to "reinvent" something that isn't broken in terms of looks.
I didn’t like the heavily stylized art of DA2, what with plastic comically exaggerated people and all. Mods made it tolerable. DAI is a huge step (back) toward realism.
Fwiw, ymmv, I think the game looks amazing.
I think that DA:I's art style makes it unique in the RPG world. I really enjoy the style. It looks nice and exciting. I have found that Uber Realism in Graphics for me is a big turn off. Why? Because its boring, everyone and their mother is going that route, give me something unique. That's what makes thing successful, something different and unique (unless your name is Call of Honor, Halo, Gears of Duty - that type of thing)
I agree that I'm underwhelmed by the graphics. Worse, I don't like the aesthetics at all; they are nothing like the lovely DAO or the somewhat-less-lovely-but-at-least-Dragon-Age-Like aesthetics of DA2.
For those unclear of the difference between graphics and aesthetics you can check out this excellent (and short) educational video. Basically, even though the graphics are "better", they aren't anything special in any way. They don't say "you are in the epic Dragon Age universe". Instead they say "we look just like any other video game".
Beyond that, they aren't even especially good from a purely technical perspective. Before I requested my refund I was running the game very well with every setting on max quality, and easily 40+ fps (no major lag anywhere). So it ran well enough on my rig. But it didn't really look all that great. Good? Sure. Great? Honestly I would take the lower-quality-from-a-technical-perspective graphics of DAO over this any day. At least they were special and unique, not common and boring.
So, just out of interest....
why does Cassandra suddenly have blue hair? Admittedly it's a very dark shade of blue, almost black, but it's blue all the same.
It did not look blue in any of the promotional material.
I'm on PC, I have everything maxed on ultra with textures on that setting above ultra, faded whatever its called, and the game doesn't look any better than dragon age 2 to be honest, and it performs a lot worse.
Post your screenshots. Then we'll see what you mean.
Sometimes I get the feeling there's a bunch of bored gamers finding a new way to entertain themselves.
Best part is they're making all the thread headlines. Step in and the first you see is a sea of negative comments.
The DAI game graphics are in general outstanding.

Let me guess. Game breaking. Need a refund?
