But that's the way all mages are in good RPGs.

They are always the hardest for someone to choose as their first class because they are just so difficult to get a hold of. I like a challenge, but the no healing spells extra challenge is just to much.

My restart with a rogue type in a moment because I am getting fed up.

The barriers really don't help like at all. I combined Solas with the winter one, about how it explodes once his barrier is expanded, that's great and all, but not helpful. It isn't.

This comment of mine is quite off-topic, but in DA:O, mages are so user-friendly and powerful even since level 3 (if carefully read all spell description). At the same time, my archer rogue keeps me frustrated most of the time.

As for DA:I, I use tank vs. tank strategy when facing tower shield guys, then let Solas and Varric combo long-range enemies one-by-one. I disable Barrier in Tactics so Solas will only use it in Oh Sh!t times. They rarely attract aggro from tower shield dudes. Maybe you already did this strategy already yet feel frustrated.

Even in DAO my mage died.

Cause I tend to go for spiritual necro mages or blood mages or even fade mages. I don't do elemental mages. I like offensively defensive mages. But alas, we only have elemental magic in DAI for damage.

7 hours played...

It meets my expectations, but doesn't exceed them.

This engine is not new. There's tons of assets reused from a decade ago. But, it looks okay (Xbox One).

The horse is underwhelming, and the silly windy dust animation does not convince me that I'm moving faster.

I am looking forward to advancing in the game and getting to know the world and characters.

I hate this game. Truly actively hate it. I resent the hours I spent playing it hoping for something good. Fortunately, my boyfriend likes it, so I don't mind the $$$ spent.

Rotten, boring preachy story. What kind of an antagonist is a hole? The characters are weak, dull & poorly acted. No humour... No emotion. Just a dumbed down shooter.

Oh, & yeah, bring back Cassandra & Varrick, because DA2... Everyone just LOVED DA2... & Leiliana. I killed that ****** in Origins, but Bioware keeps zombie-ing her.

Cullen too... Everyone I can't stand in one place.

I love Origins & have played it through enough times to be embarrassing. Even DA2 I played through 4 times, although it was certainly no Origins. With this sorry mess, I'm sadly done with Dragon Age. Awakenings I loved as well... But then things went oh so wrong.

I hope someone in some other game company realises what a perfect formula for a perpetual money machine Orgins was & gives us the game the sequels should have been.

Ah well, I'm sure many others will love it & get great enjoyment from it... But I would happily send Mike Laidlaw to the lowest level of the deep roads.

------

I was ill, so decided some nice grinding would be appropriate & almost got far enough in (very far in that is) to start liking the game… now my 360 crashes at very predictable points… Perhaps the gods have cursed me for the comments above, but right now I can tell if there are better characters & characterizations since it worn't play. One of the predictable crashes is loading the Storm Coast -- it won't… so the Iron Bull, who may have gone a long way to changing my mind isn't available.

I'm working on the crashes running diagnostics, since my boyfriend does love the game, even though his character has become completely unplayable… but for now, we have a drink coaster, not a game…
