I am that far with the main story but I just do not like any of them but who knows maybe a sidequest might provide that option were I can chose none.

You can choose to "punish" the side you pick, in a manner of speaking. So just because you pick a side doesn't mean you endorse that side.

I'm wanting my mage to side with the mages, but I don't like what they're up to so I do hope I can choose them while still clearly showing my disagreement with their actions. Both sides are like... dude, no.

You can do that for both the mages and templars. Theres both a support and "punish" time option to gaining either of them as allies.

I'm really happy about this since you now have a lot more choice in how you handle the mage vs templar war then you did in DA 2.

And yes, which side you choose and how you treat them are both important to the story and will be reflected in consequences latter on.

Choose a bunch of brutes in skirts or whiny sorcerers in skirts. Yeah, I'd just bring them both to heel.

Not possible.

It's terrible you can't dissolve the Templars AND side with the Mages.

If I chose one side over the other will I have to fight the other side that I did not chose?

So there is no neutral option to just destroy them both?

No, you have to side with one or the other.

You need them to combat the Breach.

Anyway, my mage went with the Templars. Easy choice once I saw what their superiors were doing to them.

I do take some comfort that siding with the Mages means the Templars are....chastened.

So can I side with one and punish them while imprisoning the other?

If you think torturing is chastening, then you have no idea what that word means.

It's called understatement for dramatic effect. See the elipses.

I complained about their ending either way,

But I'm trying to be glad, though.

Glad [actually not glad] to see people still arguing over Mages and Templars even when they can settle the score.

Now the choices you have with the wardens and how Varic's response changes...that is interesting.

No, I'm a mage terrorist. Apologist would imply I care about the Muggles opinion.

I sided with the mages and made them our full allies in my inquisition! I'm very pro-mage (much to Vivienne's disdain) and my Dalish elf mage wanted to give them all the chance they had at becoming their own people. I don't immensely care if the Chantry is happy or not, I'm making sure my inquisition is as progressive as they can be! Making the world a better place. :D

I just couldn't get myself to side with the Templars but man
