I know there are other post about this. I just want to move away from issues to do with a tactical cam, and the fact that it is made for console players. I am more interested in story, lore and that sorta thing. If I had an issue with mechanics I wouldn't of pre-ordered it. Experience tells you a game always has something wrong with it, but what about the story and lore thus far? Maybe it is because I remember playing games on consoles made in the 80's and 90's or maybe I am not picky about controls once I get them figured out. I care about the story, and the people in it. Good? Bad? or Meh?

It's a Bioware game; the story is going to be great.

From what little I've seen so far, DA:I is maintaining the tradition.  My only worry is that it'll be diluted by the open-world nature of the game.  I honestly don't understand everyone's fascination with open-world games.  Skyrim has no bled into two of my favourite story-driven RPGs: Dragon Age and The Witcher 3.  I hope I don't regret that.

The writing seems the same as any other Bioware game so far.  Good by video game standards, but still full of fan service and heavy handed presentation. I'm enjoying the party members more than DA2, if that counts.

Playing pc, about 12 hours in, just finished 'Arc 1' of the story. It is amazing! It starts off kinda slow, but really picks up speed once you get to lvl 5-6 (or 7-8 if you're playing on nightmare like me, lol. Its punishing).

Yes it's a great game.  PC users are upset because they truly believe that RPG's should only be on PC, and because the PC version is really bad they are throwing a tantrum.  It's in every thread especially in the Feedback section.

I play on PS4 and I have absolutely NO complaints at all.  The controls, the tac cam, the movement, the combat, the lore, the quests, the story, graphics, everything are top notch.

Couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I think its a good game. I don't have many hours in but if you can put aside the horrible pc controls and the missing tactical gameplay of the game I think the game is good. The story is decent so far and I really love the connection between this and DA:O story and characters. It was mostly the reason I bought it. Combat without the tactical part is fun in general and I think an "Open-World" game does nothing but destroy the story. You are supposed to follow things in an order for a story driven game, at least in my opinion. Characters seem to be interesting but I haven't seem much of them. The only thing despite the pc controls and glassy hair that I dislike is the fact that you can't speak to your companions if you want to outside in the world like in Origins. But even in that game they didn't have much to say so I guess its alright. I will definitely have to get further in the game to review it but I do think it will get better with the story and characters.

Ignoring all the issues with the PC port, the actual game itself has been great for me so far.

Thanks I appreciate the responses. This is the first game I got excited about since the N 64 days. Normally I buy games that are older and 19.99 without tax at Wal-mart. I was just second guessing myself on pre-ordering. 76.99 can buy other stuff I don't really need but want badly. Anyone else's tax on video games in their state that high?

Edit: I even watched the videos, and posted in forums. I never do that lol.

I've only played for a couple of hours, but I'll say it's a good game. Better than DA 2 but not quite as good as DA:O for its time.

DA:I is a weird beast. It's not inherently bad, but there are some questionable design choices they made that seem strange.

I've actually started to like it more after playing a bit, so I'll have to see what happens,

Yeah I agree. I don't think any future Dragon Age games will make it up to Origins but that's just because of modern games in general. I think its time we stop comparing more DA games to that one and just look for the positive things the newer ones have, if they have any.

not a fan of the combat or the timed missions..

the missions should not take literally an hour to complete.  is this a facebook game or an rpg?  imo, 5 min is even to short.. im playing a video game.  the mission should either complete instantly or require combat..  timed missions are just dumb.

as for the combat.. having to hold R/Left Mouse button to execute auto-attack is also not fun.. they should have just kept the previous system.. it does nothing to enhance the gameplay.

also, closing rifts is just a chore.. and actually targeting the rift seems like a mini-game in itself.. maybe its easier with a controller.. but with a keyboard and mouse its painful.

that being said.. the characters so far are great, the loot system seems cool, and there are lots of places to explore.  if the combat was like DA2/DA:O, this would be a fantastic game.. sadly its not.

ill still continue to play it.. but im not impressed so far.

edit: ive continued playing and changed to a controller.. its a much better experience with a controller, but i still feel the old system is better.  this series was originally supposed to be a throwback to the balder's gate style of gameplay.. DA:I is nowhere near that.. it feels like a clunky action/RPG hybrid with a good story..

So, I'll ask the forbidden topic: I'm in the middle of a DA2 play right now. It's been so long since I did anything with dragon age. I remember DAO because I played it to death. But wanted to do one run of DA2 with the DLC. Do my DA2 choices matter? Or is DA:I a great place to start?

None of your choices matter because they don't transfer via save. You have to select everything in the keep.

There's a lot of annoyances.  But overall it's fun.  I'm having a blast with the story and I've barely scratched the surface.  This is the type of game you kind sink hundreds of hours into...

I'm really hoping they fix some of the tediousness such bad loot mechanics and graphical bugs.

I'd be a little more practical and give it an 8 or 7, honestly

'Practical.'

I give it a 36/10 OP. Not that I've played the game yet but that seems secondary to having an opinion.

If you don't view DA:I as the contunuation to DAO, but rather as a separate game in the same setting, you'll find that DA:I is very enjoyable game. I'd say it's time we stop idealizing DAO and judge DAI on its own merits.

I've played for about 9 hours and maybe it's too early to pass the final judgement, but so far I have a blast with DAI. Despite some shortcomings as controls and camera, the game is much fun. Bioware didn't lose its touch - the characters are well written, the plot here is not just to check the box, the lore is abundant, they even introduced a bard who sings dozens of amazing songs. And people say that after the 'Act 1' the game gets even more interesting!

No, it's not.

Whether it's the game for you you alone can judge, but anyone claiming it's crap is blowing it out their airhole, to be candid. :)

I think it's a great game so far. I'm on a PC and there were some minor issues at first but those were soon fixed. I think the companions are interesting and fun, the world looks gorgeous and there is just tons to do. I've barely made a dent in the game and I've been at it for hours so lots of content. So far, so good. I'm happy!

Not even remotely a bad game.

Most fun I have had in an RPG in AGES.

The sheer number of things to do and ways you can play is making me already looking forward to playing on my Archer. (Currently a mage)
