Reaver and Katari are fine.
Reaver is a bit more on the bursty side and can have life steal traits.
Katari is more about AoE / CC / Guard, while still doing great damage.

Does Line in the Sand work like it does in Single Player? I thought it would but in a PUG another said they unlocked it and it doesnt work the same. Has anyone here unlocked it in multiplayer and found it to be different? I dont want to get it if it is the same.
I've seen templars and reavers do great
I have no interest in legionnaire tanking. Too bad can't unlock anything lollool
Remember that the Templar's passive abilities also give her big boosts to willpower, which can be useful in activating multiple abilities or maintaining your shield wall for a longer period.
I have played a templar enough times to promote her and I've also played a legionnaire to a decent high level.
The templar as a tank is a little lackluster. Going deep in the Sentinel (tanking) tree yields a tank that is in most occasions inferior to a lower leveled legionnaire tank. The two biggest deficiencies are the lack of AOE taunt, which causes mobs to constantly bypass you and attack your squishy teammates, and the average rate of guard generation that pales in comparison to the legionnaire's ability to do the same.
The bodyguard ability, supposedly the crown of the sentinel tree, is very 'meh'. The radius is small and its impossible to keep all your teammates inside the same area in pub games. In threatening and higher difficulties, diverting 50% of the damage done to your teammates means that instead of getting hit by a trainwreck, they get hit by a slightly slower trainwreck. Your lack of taunts render you largely helpless in diverting the mass of mobs from going willy nilly and doing whatever they want.

Yup that's why I'm thinking Wrath/Spell Purge nuke spec, though I'm hesitant to drop Guard. The temptation for 4 active attacks is strong with her.

I have a lvl 16 templar and she can be extremely powerful, especially against demons. Wrath of the heaven deals massive damage to demons, mages and magical creatures and stuns most enemies. Quickly casting spell purge on stunned enemies inflicts massive damage (enough to kill most mobs on routine) and dispells enemy barriers. And attacking while buffed by blessed blades will reduce the cooldown of both spells. Everytime I join a game people are amazed at her ability to one-shot big crowds of enemies.
My big problem with her is that she is a very situational character. She is amazing against demons but not as useful against the rest. If only we could choose the type of enemies we'd like to fight against like in mass effect 3...
Just want to point out that willpower doesn't seem to increase stamina anymore which... changed my views on templar a bit. But yes, speccing her is weird. I'm about to try the 4 big active route as well and am dreading stamina management.
That's very strange. If it doesn't increase stamina, what does willpower do anymore?

I've been playing Templar the past two days and idk I think with the right gear she is a MONSTER. I don't try to main tank with her ever even tho I hold my own when I'm in PUG matches. I run Blessed Blades, WoH, Spell Purge and Guard. Normally if I'm playing with my legionnare friend i'll wait until he War Cry/Siege Breaker a group then I come in with the WoH/SP combo and wipe. I've played mostly on Threatening bc I can't find groups to play on Perilous enough to know what she can do on there but I definitely think she has lots of potential as an off-tank/dps
Not sure which difficulty we are talking about,
but I think you have to spec quite a few point into Sentinel on Perilous difficulty.
And I don't think you can sacrifice guard either as you have to be able to take a few arrow shots front up.
Important thing is that you can pull the initial aggro with Challenge, so you (the group) should be okay without aoe taunt.

I am not sure if this is a bug or not, but my friend has had been OHK numerous times by an archer even though he has full health, I know that he has the war horn power, as well as the ground marking buff for his primary skills. He has become quite frustrated with the Templar's seemingly paper thin armor. One minute he is advancing with the party at full health, the next he is dead and crawling on the ground after taking an arrow to the knee apparently.
Last night, he died three times in the second wave from archers sniping him, the next game he switches to the Katari and he gets to wave five without going down once. I originally thought that he was just playing the Templar wrong, but in playing last night, I could see some random WTF moments where his Templar would go down from a stiff breeze.
Is anyone else experiencing similar problems? Is my friend really just playing the Templar horribly?
I think you need Shield Wall (block) to have a chance against archers, either that or a good gap closer. And the Templar doesn't have any gap closer.

I do when I just start leveling the Templar. Did he get any of the passive that raise Constition or just ones that raise Strength? Up until level 10 I dont think I got any that raised constitution and she is pretty squishy.

If he's on Perilous (or even Threatening with poor gear maybe) and doesn't have Shield Wall up while advancing (or barring that clever entrance tactics), then this is entirely possible. Archers do so much damage that it looks like you get one-shot. He might be having better luck with Katari because he's entering fights better or dodging the arrows through raw speed.
