So before actually playing the game I was kind of excited about mounts but after now having played and used one they seem pretty tacked on just for fluff. Basically riding one is not an enjoyable experience so 99% of the time I just opt to not do it. First off the control for horses is not good, it just feel clunky and unresponsive. The animations also feel a little weird, when you're at the default speed they're okay but as soon as you use "sprint" it just starts to look/feel weird, like the animations are stiff and slow and don't even get me started on that whole "wind swoosh" visual effect they use when galloping, that is the dumbest thing I've ever seen.
I honestly have to say I was surprised at how disappointed I was with the mounts, it was not an aspect I was expecting to be poorly done. Mounts have been a thing in games for ages so you don't really expect that to be bad. Take your inspiration from skyrim or mordor but the mounts need some love b/c as it is I don't even use the thing.
