It looks like it may drop from any Venatori Spellbinders. I gave up and went to finish Dorian's personal quest One Less Venatori, killed a group in the Hinterlands and they dropped my last tome.
Hey, where are all the Venatori in the Hinterlands? I can only find two, but not all three. It seems to be bugged. The quest only marks two on the map and not all three for me. I haven't been able to find the third one. Any ideas?

The third one isn't in Hinterlands. I think they're in Exalted Plains, but I can be wrong. Make the quest active, and the journal will show you the location.
So I've assembled the book.
....but now I can't find the trainer again! There's no marker on the map, and she's not in Skyhold where she gave me a quest.
Bug, or has she gone somewhere odd?
So I have to tell you all this was certainly now well explained in the Dragon Age Inquisition Collectors Edition either.
This really needs to be explained in simple basic terms so that those of us who are not intimately familiar with the game mechanics can figure this out. It really needs to be addressed in the next patch/update that will explain all these steps. I feel like in game Journal needs to be properly setup if they actually expect anyone to complete this Specialization.
The funny part is I had everything I needed for the Way of the Necromancer and I was not even looking to do that one. I just happened to be in The Hinterlands and did a lot of the quests there and looted everything.
First you need to unlock the Exalted Plains on the War Table Map and THEN you have to go to s specific place on the map (see You Tube link below) Where you put one of those Inquisition Stakes when you ID a location the go back to Skyhold and select the Ghilan'nain's Grove on the War Table, it will be right next to the Exalted Plains (new on your map). It's not really explained anywhere clearly. I mean they really need to explain these steps.
If you want "The Way of the Rift Mage Specialization" you really have to jump through a lot of hoops to achieve it. When I saw Level 20 baddies in Ghilan'nain's Grove I almost turned around But I was a level 13. I didn't think I would be able to deal with them. But I pushed through it.
Now that I have completed this specialization I'll be happy to assist.
As it was mentored in an earlier post, Viper posted where to find the Tomes on his You Tube channel! Thank you again!
Here is a link to it:
1. Get the 3 Venatori Tomes (see YouTube link above)
2. Get 20 velvet rings (you can get them just by running around Exalted Plains they get dropped by the undead.
3. Once you are in Ghilan'nain's Grove you have to close all three Rifts in there.
4. Go to Skyhold where Solas is to get a readings book or it can be found by the wares shop on Val Royeaux (get it from Solas its on a table in the room he is in on the ground floor if you are entering the main Hall where your throne is located its the first door on your right.
5. Once you have completed all the above go back to camp and create the book.
6. Then go back to the Specialization Mage "Your Trainer" she to the right where the main entrance to Skyhold is, (in fact all three specialization mages will be in that vicinity) the bottom floor where Cullen was at the beginning or where you go to talk to Cole for the first time since arriving at Skyhold (hope this all makes sense to you).

i have all the tomes exvept for the one out side the dalish camp, no loot, no mages is it glitched?

Where was the third group? I can't find them anywhere in the Hinterlands..
Wow thats ridiculous I scoured the area south of the dalish camp indicated in the youtube link and there were no venatori there. This is painful.
Seriously. My quest tracker is showing these:
-Assemble a tome of rifts
-Venatori tomes 3/3
-Ring velvet 10/10

I am the same for the Knight Enchanter i have all items but when i go speak with the trainer she says i need more, the only thing i see is gather material for spirit sword but i am sure that's the items listed 3/3 and 10/10 right? It also mentions reading things, what are we meant to read? I am not sure which i want to do but there is nothing on the maps telling you where to go for any of this, i just happened to collect the items needed while on other quests
I killed the venatori near the Dalish camp before I got the quest... they refuse to respawn again. I also did the mission for killing venatori for Dorian already.
Am I totally locked out of ever having my specialization now? :\
They are definitely random loot items because my first tome was also in the Hinterlands during Dorian's personal quest to kill Venatori.
I still need one more tome and I have been all over the Exalted Marches.
Guess I just need to do some more Venatori hunting later this evening.
I'm not seeing this on my War Table and I'm 11th level...is there something I need to do to get it on the table first?
Got ONE freakin tome. Went all over the banks, nothing. Got all of venatori for dorian, not a single tome.
Is this quest possibly buggy? I just can't believe there aren't markers for this thing. I've spent hours searching
If you haven't found any Ring Velvet:
Go to the Emerald Graves, the Freemen drop it A LOT.
Ring velvet drops like mad in the Emerald Graves. Already had Rift Mage by then but, it wasn't hard to get. Took me about an hour to do it all.

Not sure about Knight Enchanter but for Rift Mage, you have to grab the book on a table in the room with Solas at Skyhold. I was stuck at 10/10 and 3/3 for awhile too until I found that book.
I'd guess that since Vivienne is a Knight Enchanter, you'll find a similar book near her.
Anyone know tome drops? Got 2/3 in the Plains CANNOT get the last one.

I'm only missing the tome from the Desolate Bank and the camp isn't there at all. I've checked both of the other areas to see if it was a quest glitch and they might have spawned again at one of those places and they didn't. So I can't complete the quest without the Desolate Bank group showing up.

any mage you find with Venatori in their name has a chance to drop the tomes required to become a Rift mage. While the prima guide talks about finding 3 specific camps in the Exalted Plains, you do NOT need to kill only those to get this item to drop. Dorian's personal quest to kill rogue venatori will drop them ( and this quest has 2/3 camps in the Hinterlands) ...i've gotten drops in the Hissing Wastes as well. I still get the drops and I've already taken up a specialization as a Knight Enchanter. Don't get frustrated that the items don't drop with the first three kills, they will come 
Also for those who don't realize/know ...to create the item any specialization trainer wants, DO NOT GO TO A CRAFTING TABLE. These are all made thru a REQUISITIONS table

If that was the case for you I guess you were lucky (or, at the very least, some of us are unlucky)- none of the three dropped a tome for me. Also, there are no Spellbinders at any of the locations in the video on page 1. I also found Venatori Spellbinders in a few other zones like the Oasis but none of them dropped tomes. Stuck at 2/3 and have wasted hours running around looking at all the places people posted videos of or said they found Spellbinders. I love it when video games get released when basic and important quests are too bugged out to complete. Biovar please.
Ok so I began the quest at Lv. 9ish.... FINALLY got my last tome at Lv. 15! The first two I got were at the Plains, but the final one was from
I hate that it's randrom. It took me 5 levels to get all the books, I coul have been halfway through the Rift Mage tree by then
If you want to start gathering tomes as early as possible:
--> Oasis. Fairly easy to obatin from ANY of the respawing mage-venatoris there. Can easily be killed with a party around lvl 5-7.
The ten velvets drop:
--> As already mentioned, by undead in the exalted plains. The undead in the mire - the ones who rise from the water if disturbed - don´t drop anything at all.
-->Additionally, the Freeman in exalted planes drop them. And they respawn, too. Exalted Plains can be started with lvl 7-8.
It is not necessary to close any rifts during the quest, unlike what is stated in post no.29, see above.
Hopefully they fix this in a patch, this is absolutely ridiculous.
I'm now level 16 and still cannot get the last tome. I've been everywhere, killed Venatori mages, got every other thing I need and still haven't gotten it. Agreed, the patch better come soon. This is ridiculous.
So we can all come to agreement that the quest is buggy?
