It's an enclosed area almost like a stone hinge but closed stone. I think you have to get the blocked passageway by the stone dog/wolf opened first in order to get there.

I am having the same issue as everyone else. I think I only have one tome and looked for hours. I just want to know if Bioware is aware of this issue people are having. Or if they even think its an issue. I havent seen any response from them. Here or anywhere else.

I have found these tomes all over the world. I've managed to find tomes so far in Hissing Wastes, The Hinterlands, Fallow Mire, Storm Coast, Forbidden Oasis and now Western Approach ...and I don't even need them as I'm a Knight Enchanter.
Was just finishing up the darkspawn quest in Western Approach, about to fight Servis, decided to take care of Cassandra's comp quest "Unfinished Business" because it was nearby. Killed the 3 mages plus the guy she wanted dead. Another Tome dropped right there off a dead mage and he was called a "Rebel Spellbinder." Either I'm having the best luck in the world or you guys who can't find these are having the worst 
Keep killing mages wherever you find them. The tomes will drop eventually.

I spent 3 days searching in frustration but I have the answer!
In the OASIS there are two hilltops that overlook the rest of the map. From the top of one hilltop you should see the other top they're both crevasis and you need a ladder to climb up the second one. On this hilltop SAVE your game. The VENATORI will sometimes appear on the hill opposite to the one closest to the middle camp and the reason I say save on this hilltop is because you can see if the VENATORI MAGE has spawned at the other hilltop or not. The spawn and the tome drop is random and very rare. Load your save multiple times to see if the mage has spawned and then you can drop down and run from one hilltop to another kill and see the drop. If there is no mage, or if he doesnt drop the tome load your save game till you get your tome. I'll be posting a screenshot here shortly.

It does take time, but RandomKiller666 is onto something. After clearing all of the Hissing Wastes, and the Western Approach, killing an incredible amount of venatori and STILL not getting that 3rd tome to drop, tried his suggestion out and in about...i think it was 20 minutes finally got a tome to drop. You can hit the venatori from the eastern ridge, across the chasm. Usually when you kill them the loot will drop at your feet rather than having to run all the way over there. So kill mages, if loot drops and the book isn't there, just a quick f9 to reload, try again. So RK is right, but i did it the lazy way and it works even better. Something to keep in mind.

i went to the forbidden oasis, had already killed Dorian's venatori without finding a third tome. This time i made a save as soon as I found a venatori and only had to re-load the save twice to get a tome to drop.

I see this post was made a year ago but I found the two tomes from the mages in the exalted plains... and THIRD TOME I found at skyhold near solas. It's in the same room as him just behind where he's standing on a chair. I don't have a screen shot or anything but you should be able to find it with search if you stand next to splas at skyhold....it might only show up if you have the quest for rift mage active.

No...it isnt...it counted in my quest log as one of the tomes for the quest...I only had to get 2 from the mages in the plains.

Glitches can occur, but they are nevertheless glitches. What I posted above is what should happen.

You need 3 items based on your choice of specialization, materiel of some sort, and a book usually near your companion with the same one you are training for, so no, Solas' book is not a Venatori Tome. It's a book about Rift Magic. I got all 3 Tomes in the Exalted Plains.

The book i believe is where Solas is
I cannot remember which plant you need but i know you can face Venetori mages/spellbinders in HISSING WASTES and FORBBIDEN OASIS or the story mission WICKED MINDS WICKED HEARTS. I have noticed if you play the mage story line the item drops in the EXALTED PLAINS are NOT EXSISTANT because the VENETORI groups become FREEMAN OF THE DALES.
Worst case scenario: buy them at the book store in Val Riyoux maybe?
If anyone thinks I am crazy then GHIUIJHO you. I have gotten Rift mage in the mage story line and yes the "venetori spawn points" are fake in Exalted plains. yes this needs to be fixed apparently still i guess. And yes I am still angry about how fustrating it was to get. And yes I still hate getting a big no it all telling me that the Exalted Plains still spawn venetori people at these points: http://www.ign.com/w...ion_Side_Quests YET THERE ARE NO VENETORI SPELLBINDERS THERE BECAUSE THEY ARE REPLACED BY FREEMAN OF THE DALES GUYS!!!! Trust me...I spent four weeks looking!!!
