Hello,

I have been a big fan of Bioware games for a very long time.

The writing is the best there is and - with the exception of DA:2 ... sorry! - the gameplay is generally awesome.

I have not played one of your games in a while.

I really want to play DragonAge: Inquisition, it looks absolutely amazing, however, I am absolutely unwilling to install the Origin client on my computer. Is there any way for me to play this game?

My understanding is that it is origin enabled and cannot be played without it is this correct?

I will be very sad if this is the case as it means I will not be able to play it :(

thank you.

For EA's PC catalogue Origin seems to be a compulsory install. I'm in the same boat as you as I don't like it but I've had it installed and just generally ignore it except when doing updates. Apart from updates you can install the game, launch Origin once and then play the game without interference from Origin, except with stupid decisions like the Always Online Policy for SimCity. Not the best introduction to Origin on that account.

Origin is also required if you want to use the keep and I think it'll be required for MP and DLC. Doesn't look like any way around it..... for now (cue thunderbolt)

Any reason why you're absolutely unwilling to install Origin? The client has a straightforward options menu, you can easily uncheck all of the social/consumer upload data boxes.

Apart from the crappy download speed (Took 7 hours to download DA:I at 900kb last night) it's really not that bad.

There's no way for you to play without origin. Origin is dragon age's form of DRM.

One activation from Origin, then you can play in offline mode and exit Origin. You must have Origin to start with.

You can't exit origin. Just like Steam it has to run

I am not willing to agree to the Origin EULA.

In general I object to being forced to install a non-essential piece of third party software that offers nothing I want.

I just want to play DA:I not participate in a "platform".

You can play without Origin. You have to have it for installation only and eventuall updates AND multiplayer and synching the world with Dragon Age Keep.

To run Origin games without it, get Outcome: http://outcome.nofate.me/

Very few PC games will be available to you, sadly. The big ones all use Steam, Origin or Uplay at this point.

:(

My money and loyalty goes elsewhere then. Which is sad, cause I really like bioware.

gobslat, it's worth it.

if you install it an go to Application Settings, not only can you disable automatic starting, cloud storage, in game logging, etc, if you go to Advanced, you can check Automatic Exit, which closes Origin as soon as the game exits.

That way all it's doing is supporting the game while you're playing and nothing else.

I've had it awhile and no issues whatsoever.

Which games are you playing of anywhere near this quality (cough cough after a few patches) that you don't have some form of DRM?

You could always get a PS4 and buy the Retail copy :)  It's about the only way.

Even console games now need to connect to servers for updates and DLC, I wouldn't say consoles are free of DRM, or at least DRM style server dependence. It's just the modern world, for better or worse. At least on PC you have... options... should the servers ever die.

Most of the AAA games are getting that way yes. Still a lot of smaller studios and independent games without it. But yes I am missing out on a number of titles I would like to play. shrug. This is a line in the sand for me. I would like to give Bioware my money to play DA:I but not go through Origin..

As for the Playstation, I did think of that, but I'm a PC gamer at heart and want to play it like I played DA:O on the PC. :)

What exactly do you not want to agree to in the EULA?

The irony of this statement just caused every metal detector in the country to go off.

Why?

DA:O was great on PC. I even remember walking into a shop and buying the box!

"In game logging" aka sending usage date to EA is enabled by default in DA:I itself, even if you turned it off in Origin. You have to turn it off again in the game itself.

UPlay, *shudder*. That PoS makes Origin looks like a gift from God.

Im sure there must be a crack for the game out by now.  Try game copy world they are usually pretty good with that. Then you might not need origin.

This makes me curious. Assuming I have bought the game legitimately - say a box in a shop or something - is it legal for me to circumvent Origin in this way? I honestly do no know.

When it comes to game acquisition, don't worry about legal matters. Morally, you should buy the game. Buy it and then use a NoCD crack. There is already one up on the aforementioned site, but I can't verify that it successfully circumvents Origin.

The OP gets much respect from me for sticking to his principles. Sure, Dragon Age is a great series (DA 2 not so much) but I fully understand his stance on not wanting to install another piece of tertiary software just to play the game he just bought. I myself haven't bought an EA game for years until DA:I, since I waited until Origin got less shitty.

This is why I bought the ps4 version op, I didn't want to deal with that origin bullcrap on pc, and it looks like it paid off, I see people having way more problems with the pc version then anything else.

Same thing for me and Diablo 3. I refused to play a game that required me to be online for Single Player just for DRM reasons. Thus I got the PS3 version that doesn't require a continuous online connection.
