It's going to be tough to sell this one as a serious question, but it really is.  I'm sure half are going to yell at me for being anti-feminist, and the other half will be in the "LOL NEEDS MOAR BOOBS!" camp...

I don't find Cassandra, Josephine, or Sera attractive in any way.  Those are the only 3 female characters that my Inquisitor can try to romance.  But every time I talk to them, I usually just wanted to end the conversations so I don't have to look at them anymore.

Vivienne and Leliana are the only 2 female characters which are even remotely attractive, and neither one of them are romancable.

What was the reasoning behind making the female romance characters unattractive?  Is BW trying to make a feminist statement?  Is this their apology for the overly sexualized Morrigan and Isabella companions? Was it needed?

My girlfriend has told me that Cullen, Blackwell, Solas, and Dorian are all quite attractive.  So why is this the game of hot men and ugly women?

Apparently you didn't get the Memo. The official true title for this game is "Dragon Age: Anaconda". Theres a whole lot of spicy sausages in this game. Try not to eat too much. :P

P.S. If you don't want Cassandra, I'll gladly take her. Come to me, my warrior princess.

I agree, they're pretty nasty.

Cass would be better with some hair.

But the romances for straight females are ugly: Iron Bull, Cullen, and Solas.

Solas is a skinny bald elf...

Cullen is supposed to have that traditional, handsome masculine look but ends up looking like a golden doodle.

Iron Bull is just...what even.

You at least get two humans, and Cassandra and Josephine are not bad looking. They have good facial structure.

I don't really look for the game to titillate me, though, so I'm not as invested in the romances. So the looks of the romances aren't as big of a concern for me.

Cass isn't all to bad.

Sera's hairstyle and nose makes her look unattractive.  But I like her because of her mannerisms and childish personality.

I would have liked to romance Leliana though.

Not a lot of options in this one no.  But Cass and Sera aren't to bad.

This has been my only problem with the game so far.

My male inquisitor is going for Dorian. Turns out his homosexual.

What is with all these threads claiming fem companions are ugly?  I've always found Cassandra striking; Sera's quite cute (though her character does nothing for me) and Josephine's a flipping knockout; I'd fall over my own feet to get her number.

Seriously people, if these girls don't meet your standards you must have a helluva lot of trouble getting dates in real life, where people aren't that pretty without winning the genetic lottery or having lots of plastic surgery.

Bioware designed the female LIs specifically with you in mind. You. They researched and graphed all your previous partners to figure out what you're attracted to, and then made every single LI as far away from that as is possible. The Illuminati also helped.

But seriously, it's a shame that you don't find any of your choices attractive. That's all it is, though. A shame. There is no conspiracy. Your girlfriend, while I'm sure she has excellent taste, isn't the authority on what is and isn't attractive for anyone but herself. Finding anyone attractive is a subjective experience. I personally don't find Blackwall attractive, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be a love interest or should be replaced with someone else. I wouldn't begrudge his fans that. Besides, his character might be interesting enough that that doesn't matter to me.

Better luck next time.

I don't think a game translates to real life at all.  I have a lovely girlfriend.  The difference in a video game is that you spend a lot of time making your character look perfect, you spend a lot of time making your stats and story go perfect, then all-of-a-sudden you're met with these imperfect romance options.  Josephine has a quirky hook-nose.  Sera has a big nose, bad hair, and annoying personality.  Cassandra is just a bit too butch... scars, short hair-cut, too much attitude.

I actually liked Vivienne a lot.  Her personality, style, and appearance all struck the right chord.  I noticed I can flirt with her, but she always turns them down. :-P

...Because conventionally attractive character designs are found everywhere and it gets boring as all ****?

I mean, the characters are still striking in their own way, but why settle for generic good looks when standing out and looking "unusual" leaves a lasting impression?

For better or worse, it's got people talking. It's got you talking.

That's another drink. This isn't fun anymore.

What was the reasoning behind making the female romance characters unattractive?

You're starting with the assumption that your preferences are universal, and then reasoning that BioWare intended to make these characters unattractive.

The designs are more flawed this time round, that was intentional. Conventional attractiveness often involves scrubbing women of their imperfections, it's easy and it creates a nice appearance but it also makes all your characters look the same. They didn't do that in Inquisition, which doesn't mean that the characters are ugly but it does mean that there is more likely to be some quirk you object to. Lots of people here find the women of Inquisition attractive, so I'm afraid it's just bad luck for you.

Yeah how dare a woman be scarred from battle (she's a war hero dude), short hair (she's a practical, combat-oriented type) and have a forceful assertive personality?? All women and all female characters should be demure, polite and make me sandwiches.

Sera is adorable and her nose and haircut are supercute. Cass is handsome and striking and looks really powerful. Josephine is beautiful and her nose adds character. The characters this time were designed with their characters/histories/personalities in mind (see: Cassandra concept art where the notes say things like how she has angular lines to match her personality).

I actually thought the same thing before the game came out. I am also mad that you cannot romance Liliana. I don't really like Cassandra never have. I think I love Liliana because she reminds me of Liara from Mass Effect, but seriously she is the only female character I like thus far in the inquisition. I am about 8 hours in or so. I basically just met Varric's friend for those of us who have made it that far. And yeah don't like these women.

 , well not just sandwiches...

To be honest I don´t really like Cassandras look nor personality (as much as I know this character), it remains to be seen how the other one goes. I personally went for Morrigan in O and Merrill in 2, both very different characters. But the most feminine options in their own way, in my taste (well Leliana was feminine too but her overly religious nature was a turn off).

This spoken as if anyone cares.

If I wanted bishoujo characters I'd play an adult Japanese game.

The game is the thing. Why complain about the looks now that you've already started playing?

Dorian is gay option so Dorian although he's hot isn't really for female players. I mean everyone can romance him but he's still option only for  male Inquisitor and like that OP, he's as big option for you as for me.

Solas and Blackwall are far from models. Cullen is closest but he is not perfectly attractive either.

Male gamers who complain women in the came being ugly and stuff just need to expand their views a bit and realise that person is not all about looks. Most of male characters aren't better looking than women, actually Cass, Josie and Sera look better than some male LI's (in my point of view only Dorian is above all of them, Cullen in same line as Cass).
