Having seen the game played on the PC and played it myself on the XBOX ( A LOT lol ). I am of the opinion that I prefer the playing style of the Xbox. There is a lot to be said for following the action at ground level and not looking down on things from above. I think it adds to the realism and overall immersion into the game world/environment. The overhead, stop-start-pause-upause playing style IMO realy takes away a lot of the flow of the combat. If you are going to play the game this way then you may as well go back to playing Baldurs gate ! Another thing I tend to do is to ONLY control the main character and (with a bit of AI  combat tactics tweaking) let the rest of the party fend for themselves ( again adding to the realism ) In the middle of noisy, real combat, you wouldnt be able to shout " ok Alistair, you attack the big one, Morrigan will cast mind bomb on their spell caster and I'll fire my bow at the ugly one on that rock over there while Wyne heals us all " lol. The only time I tend to " jump " to another character is if my main isnt a Rogue and I need a lock picked!

I know everyone has their own way of playing and good luck to em I just wanted to add my two pennies worth in the forlorn hope that maybe I am not the only one out there who plays the game this way lol !!

Just for the record, it's very easy to play close up on the PC rather than overhead -- you just use the mousewheel -- and to set up tactics and such to play with minimal pausing (especially on easy ) I prefer my people to be somewhat autonomous myself.

I play PC on Nightmare difficulty. I almost never take direct control of my companions other than to issue stun/interrupt commands and to taunt. I play zoomed fairly close.
