I have read a few topics about the PC M&K controls and I am really worried by what I have read so far. I create this topic because I would like some clarification but I don’t want to flood the feedback topics (as, naturally, I don’t have any feedback).

I am somebody that never used the WASD keys in any RPG I have played so far except in KOTOR where I did not have the choice and it ruined a bit my enjoyment of the game. So these elements are really important for me to take the decision of buying the game or waiting to know if the controls will be changed/fixed with a patch.

- From what I understood you can click to move and click on an enemy to move+attack in the tactical view but you cannot in the third person view. Am I right?

- Can you loot in the tactical view? If it is the case can you move+loot with a click in the tactical view or do you have to click next to the loot to move there then do something else to loot (if yes, what do you have to do exactly)?

- Can you use the tactical view outside of combat and is the tactical view convenient enough to be used constantly during exploration (in DAO I spent about 99% of the time in tactical view, I only used the third person view in conjunction with the highly key to find things that were far away).

- In the tactical view, if you click on a position that can only be reached by jumping, does your character jump to go there or id the pathfinding to bad for that?

- And a last question that is not really related to the PC interface:

If I buy DAI on Origin to try it by myself (unfortunately there are no demo of the game) then ask for a refund. Can I still buy a physical copy of the game later and link it to the same Origin account (if either my test convinced me or if the M&K controls are finally patched)?

(Because I prefer by far to have physical versions of my games.)

I will be following the answers to your questions.  I would also like to ask one important question to every answer you receive in follow up.

 I ask:

Is it even possible to fix these issues? [I wonder if it is impossible and that is why it is not fixed in the first place.]

Yes.

You can loot in tactical view, but you must be standing next to the target to loot it. The loot option is not available from range.

- Can you use the tactical view outside of combat and is the tactical view convenient enough to be used constantly during exploration (in DAO I spent about 99% of the time in tactical view, I only used the third person view in conjunction with the highly key to find things that were far away).

You can use the tactical view outside of combat. In fact, Inquisition appears to make no distinction between combat and non-combat in terms of what you can do.

This is a hugely positive development, I think.

But exploring in tactical view so far has issues. You cannot select multiple characters, so the rest will only auto-follow (and do it strangely - they don't seem to want to leave the road). Amd the camera doesn't auto-follow, so you have to manually move the camera to keep up. The camera is controlled by WASD, so even while you're pointing anf clicking to move your characters, you have to d4ive the camera with WASD.

There is a workaround for that, though. Since the camera snaps to a newly selected character, jumping between your characters with cause the camera to move with you in fits and starts.

- In the tactical view, if you click on a position that can only be reached by jumping, does your character jump to go there or id the pathfinding to bad for that?

No idea. Haven't tried it yet, and there's no documentation at all.

Yes.

A suggestion for you OP if you are uncomfortable with KB/M, DAI has native controller support.  Xbox controllers (either the 360 or X1) are both just plug and play with Windows.

Though to be fair I have not done anything other than walk around with the controller; I played the prologue with KB/M and wanted to see how a controller felt but needed to get to bed before I could experience combat with it.

Anyways, a controller is an option and at least worth a try I think if you have easy access to one.

Don't plan on using tactical view all the time to make the game play more like Origins. That seems to be your goal and it will not work, the tactical mode is not good enough for it, and it controls just as bad for other reasons.

If you're going to play this game it's going to be Risen or Witcher style controls.

I will not play the action combat. Not even for a moment.

I agree the controls are not optimized for PC. However, 5 hours in, and after doing some key remapping, I am now comfortable with key&mouse. Tactical combat is good, pausing every 2 seconds to update orders, just as I did in DAO and DA2. I did turn off most AI tactics.

Actually I am uncomfortable with controller for any kind of games.

I like games that I can play mainly with mouse (+ a few keyboard shortcuts). The main reason why I have never bought any console is because (to my knowledge) they are no console with mouse support (or if it exists there are nearly no game adapted for mouse control).

So no I will never buy a controller for my computer because I won’t magically start liking playing with a controller because some guys at Bioware decided that playing with a controller is better.

Actually it is exactly what I was expecting. I guess the best thing to do for me will be to see if Bioware decide to fix the PC controls with patches.

Thank you for the answers.
