Here's a chat transcript from a minute ago:

...
you: I have so far only read forums of a lot of people complaining that they cannot read the text. Some are on PC's, others have HDTVs, others SDTVs
Dhruv: I understand how disappointing it is. Some of the customers have reported this issue. Our developers are aware of it and are working for a resolution. We appreciate your time.

Not trying to dismiss you, but it's too small a number of people for them to really bother with it. Also any kind of fix would harm the experience for everyone else, who have HDTVs, larger TVs or monitors. Implementing a font size toggle would be even more work.

I am sorry but you are terribly wrong I will take a educated guess and say over 80% of the people who bought this game have this problem its more then enough of the community for it to be considered a big problem and needs fixing. Now I have seen your BS you have spread through this thread and I do not believe you for 1 second. Now shoo go away with your lies they will only cause more problems if anyone is dumb enough to listen to you.

Yes please give a font size option, obviously the problem is with resolution scaling maybe the font scale is fixed. as some people seem to think its too big, others too small.  We need an adjustment, doesn't have to be a slider, just small, med, large should do it.

I just received this game as a holiday gift and will have to return it if no update is planned to FIX THE SMALL FONT ISSUE!

I have a 50" HD flat screen TV and upped the view to Zoomx2 and STILL CANNOT READ the font.

Bioware - Are there any updates planned to correct this issue?

Please advise. Thanks.

Same problem here!.

Xbox360, LCD TV and the deadly combination of CapsLock font and small font size make subtitles unreadable!

Plase fix it!

PS4 with a 50" HDTV and I still couldn't read the dang text without really straining. I stopped reading codexes and war table missions for the most part because it was just too difficult. :(

I'm on a 15.6 laptop screen and it's a bit on the large side.  I actually don't like the font they are using at all.  It's a bit too modern looking for my taste. I'm guessing they did this for benefit on consoles but obviously it did not help make it legible.

I have a LG 27" desktop monitor (1920x1080) and the text is just fine for me. No problems with it and would not want it in a another size.

That's fine! I think you only have the problem if you dont play on a desktop monitor, where you sit much closer to the screen as to a tv...
Many people think, that an option to scale the text would improve the experiance, wether on tv or on a monitor.
So, why not add this?
From a designers view, the reading is terrible. The font size should be scaleable and also the caps are very bad readable...

Two options, and all are happy.
They allready got our money... Millions... And this is a little detail problem which would improve a lot
Merry christmas

I just got this game today for my Xbox 360 Super Slim and was a bit horrified to see the start screen. I got some pop-up windows when I started the game (an Update) and I had to stand in front of my TV with my face inches from the screen and squint in order to make out what on earth the pop-up window was about, the text was that small.

I have never encountered text this small or this blurry in any of my other games, and I honestly thought I had a pretty big decent TV.

I hope they fix this. I have been looking forward to playing this game for so long, but I dare not start playing it if all the in-game text is this small: My head hurts just from reading the bit about the update  =(

I do not understand why you can not change the font size.

It really is bad.  I have better than 20/20 vision, am a yard away from the screen, and STILL have to strain to read everything.  :(

I'm playing on PC with a 21" CRT monitor ( 1400x1050 ) and these tiny fonts for some texts are also giving me a very big issue: I just CAN'T read it, even if i'm very close to the screen. Game is unplayable for me.

Hi just purchase the game and have to agree the font size is a constant problem on the PS3 with a 48" 1080p. I hope the fix it soon as I find the game almost unplayable. Hugely disappointing :-(

This is actually not such an odd problem. I've seen it happen in two places that I can vividly recall - paintshop pro and my computer screen when changing the resolution to a higher one making the font smaller. In Paint shop pro this was really common as well if you had a high resolution image and set the font to a certain size the font would not always be the right size in the edited image or it would be the right size but comparatively speaking it appeared much smaller because the resolution was not 'actual' resolution during editing but adjusted for the screen.

The only actual solution I ever found was to change the resolution of the image, decreasing it or finding a font size that would allow the font to appear at the size I wanted for the resolution which was a bit of a pain with trial and error. They should just do a hotfix that allows those who want larger font to update the font size assuming there is some element in the programming allows for this to adjust as I'm guessing this is coded into the game with a specific font size. Seems all they have to do is increase it. Even if only by four from say 12 if to 16. I know this was how people were fixing fonts on steam when they ran into this problem with updates. Same thing here.

It seems that the larger the screen the greater the likeliness for this happening is.

Perhaps this is a problem due to game resolution within the monitor resolution; an issue I still have with NWN1 and new drivers. In order to get something I can read and play, I was able to alter the Res of the game and play it in Window mode rather than Full screen mode.

For DAI, I am not having issues, and I am not playing the game while using my glasses, so perhaps the problem is with something else besides the game itself.

Same here, the size of the subtitles during game play as well as all the descriptions are ridiculous small, i think they have never seen how uncomfortable is playing this game on TV if you are more than 1 feet away from your screen, do not have other words on how to describe this. From EA support got tip to look for workaround on Sony forums, come on, really?

Damn, I am disappointed and if they do not issue a patch will never again look at the BioWare production, shame.

It's ridiculous how small the text is. I would hate to hurt my eyes even further than they already are. It's also a safety issue. You are not supposed to sit too close to the tv.

I am playing DA Inquisition on a PS3. My TV is standard definition 32". Obviously, I have other priorities in life besides a PS4 and a huge TV, so before anybody suggests I buy new stuff...don't. If this game was play-tested, why didn't this issue come to light? I don't want this problem to be ignored. I've been reading many complaints, but I've seen no solution or anybody suggesting that anybody is even working toward one. I'm sorely disappointed.

Same problem here, 60" 1080p plasma tv with xbox360. I have 20/20 vision and can barely make out the text after adjusting the game screen and tv settings. I just got this game for my pregnant wife for Christmas so she'll have something to do while I'm working. We enjoyed Skyrim together and I thought this game would be great as well. Seriously wondering if there's a way I can get my money back. If not, I really hope they introduce a patch. Did they not even test this game on a tv before it was released?

I just got the game today since PSN is having a flash sale for the game. As soon as I booted up the game, I noticed how extremely small the font is. I'm playing on a 55" HDTV and have perfect 20/20 vision and can can't even make out half the words. I have to get up and walk towards the screen to even try and make out what everything says.

I haven't looked around too much so can anyone tell me if Bioware is fixing this in an upcoming patch? If so, I may as well wait until it releases. :/

Thanks for any help. :)

PS: From what I played (only the prologue) damn this game is huge and breathtaking!

My eyesight is fantastic, I can read a road-side sign with interchangeable letters from over a football field away. My hearing goes in and out.

On my 31" low-end HDTV (420p), the font/subtitles size for DA:O was absolutely perfect. It was easy to read, and didn't take away from the action at all.

For DA2, it was barely legible. It wasn't really at all on my 32" SDTV. There was a significant difference. I would have infinitely preferred DAO sized text. ME1 was just fine with text size so it had nothing to do with the dialog wheel.

For DAI, this is absolutely pathetic. Why the hell don't you make SD fonts at all? Let people choose between HD and SD fonts. Some of us actually want to read what's going on while sitting on our couch. THAT IS ALL I ASK FOR ANY BLOODY GAME. It should be so simple to implement. Oh well, fudge people without at least a 42" 1080p HDTV. Anyone with less doesn't matter.

The problem is, it definitely takes away from the possible enjoyment of the game. It is so stupid and needless. I see no need to make text this small.

I figured for poops and giggles; before I go home I would hook it up to a 37" 1080p HDTV. For me anyways, the text size is legible on that. That's good to know.
