Please fix this issue, Bioware! I've never had this problem with a video game before. I just got this game for Christmas and was so freaking excited, but now my eyes hurt.

Like most who have posted here, I've been trying to deal with the small font issues as well. I'm playing the PS3 version and pretty much having all of the issues listed here. Increasing the screen size might have helped -slightly-, but it's not a proper solution. I really do hope Bioware does get a solution in place that won't compromise people who might be having the opposite issue as well.

The problem is more on the side of the industry as a whole. Since bigger, higher resolution TV's are becoming much more standard, it allows them to make smaller fonts. The trouble is, for a variety of reasons not everyone always uses a fair-sized(37"+) high-end HDTV for their consoles. Also, I would image those with weaker vision wouldn't appreciate it all that much.

I wish all developers would include (2) different size font options (certainly when it comes to console games.) It should be a simple request that makes everyone happy.

Not like it's not been said before but ... yeah it's unplayable on a 40" 1080p TV on the other side of the room. Without binoculars anyway.

It's perfectly fine on a 23" screen about 1.5 m away tho.

That's my PS3 experience.

I just got the game for Christmas, unfortunately I'm having problems with the text as well. I can red some things fairly easily; the dialogue choices, the map, the menu. I however can't read the subtitles, the war table map, or the approval messages. My television is pretty big and I've never been unable to read the screen from the couch before. I adjusted the screen and still can't see it. I rather not to blast the volume. And forget about reading notes or journals, that's absolutely impossible.

I'll add my name to this list - I'm playing on PS4 and have a fairly large TV (about 32 inches?) about 8 feet away from the sofa. Really have to strain to read any text at all, especially the subtitles and codex entries. The names floating above NPCs' heads are completely indecipherable. It's a shame, because the game seems really good - I just feel that I'm missing out on a lot of it.

It would be good to know if a fix is planned, or if I should give up and work out a way to rearrange my living room.

I understand these things can happen during a game's release, I really do. But why are we being ignored?!?

Check Twitter, Google it, whatever. It's a HUGE issue that MANY people are having problems with. Can someone from Bioware please weigh in on this?

For a game that's so lore/dialogue driven to have this problem is ludicrous. I am nearsighted, but so are probably 50% of the people playing this game.

The issue is not just the size of the font, but the use of ALL CAPS font which is known to those who work in the education/software biz to be a no-no as it is difficult to read. Another problem as others have noted is the white color- light blue or green would actually be easier to read against the brown than white according to some seminars I attended on making text presentations more readable (cool text against warm bckg or vice-versa).

I am playing on a 42" HD LCD tv with xbox 360 and really struggle to read the text. I often have to get up and walk up to the tv. I can imagine ppl with vision and mobility issues are really struggling with this. A very obvious design flaw that should have been caught before release and should be fixable by allowing users to choose font size from a range

Has this EVER been addressed? I'm playing on Xbox 360, 42" HDTV, my eyesight's 20/20, and it is physically painful to read all these ridiculously small texts. The game experience relies heavily on story readings and awkwardly-placed text prompts. Seriously Bioware, FIX THIS!

it's the only game I wear glasses to play and it's still quite a struggle

(I normally only wear them while driving as I legally have to be able to read a license plate at a certain distance - reading other driver's license plate is apparently an important part of driving)

Not sure if I responded to this thread.  But I agree, they need to add some kind of font scaling, so people different monitor sizes can adjust to their liking.   I play on PC 1080p 46" ,  I have to roll my chair right up to screen to read anything, and it burning my eyes sitting that close to the TV.

Same issue here. Game is unplayable. This is quite frustrating. Bioware, please provide feedback so we know when this will be fixed.

Font too small on console, too big on PC. Nicely done.

On my system, PC with a 1400x1200 resolution, the smallest fonts are 200 times smaller than the screen height (1400/7)
All caps: stupid choice.
Grey on black: stupid choice.
So much free space on the inventory window, and small tooltips with tiny fonts: stupid.
No scaling option for the UI: poor game design.

Spoiler

So I'll have to buy a new bigger monitor to play this game, because I highly doubt any fix will come out for this. Maybe EAWARE signed a partnership with screen manufacturers.

Problem with the font? What problem with the font? Everything went fine, I don't have any problem to read anything in this game. Yeah, after all, everybody play this game with the face glued to the screen!

FIX THAT!

Having recently bought The Witcher II: Assassin of Kings Edition, I was amazed with their font-size option.  Was glorious.  Was so simple!  That's all Inquisition needs, a free "DLC" similar in vein to the English Voice-Over DLC.  Those who have issues with the text size (which does seem to be a large number,) can grab it.  Those that don't can safely ignore it.

Best of both worlds, no?

I think the subtitles are the only thing in the user interface that's the right size. Everything else is massive.

Sorry for repeating what everyone else is saying but I too have this issue. I have an Xbox 360. Origins played fine. I can barely read the text because it is so small. This really sucks.

As much as I love the game - I have to agree, on my PS3 the text is way too small and difficult to read.  I am missing a lot of the game because I just simply skip all the codexes and actually don't read anything now.  Interestingly my teenage daughter came in whilst I was playing the other day  (and she has 20 20 vision).  The very first thing she said was "Why is the text on that game so small - it's really difficult to read".

Its so frustrating as it really hampers my enjoyment of what would otherwise be a really great game.

This is an issue for us as well on our console and our 42 inch flat screen television. The font is so small and hard to read. It's like squinting our eyes to read it when sitting a decent distance away.

We've watched anime with better text and subtitles. Heck even the Witcher 2 has better text and subtitles. Even Skyrim does. Makes a person wonder.

I am glad that is see I am not the only one that thinks the font size is to small. I am on PS4 and can barely see the text, I have to get up walk to the TV to read.

I tried changing the resolution on my Samsung but that didn't work.

So has anybody come up with an answer as what we can do about it?

I hate to add nothing to do this but the same comment but.. Indeed, the text is completely unreadable. I have a larger sized SD tv and the text is small and blurs together. On my slightly smaller HD tv, it's the same issue. Tiny and I can't make out the letters. I'm using a PS3 on both and have changed all the settings I can but nothing really helps. I suppose I could upgrade my computer and play the PC version if I had a couple thousand dollars laying around but, sadly, that's not the case. I have my game screen as large as it can go and it's cutting off a good portion of the sides but the text is still illegible. I would love to actually know what I am saying in the dialogue wheels because at this point, I'm just guessing! I don't want to lose approval with my entire party just because I thought I was saying one thing and I end up comparing their various smells to those of decaying nugs. Please, please, put a patch through to fix this or some way to actually play this game. I don't want Inquisition to be my last Dragon Age experience but at this point, even getting past the prologue is a challenge.

Seeing no development with this I decided to try something. I knew my old computer screen had a better resolution then my SD TV and that it is better suited to display text. So, I bought a HDMI male to VGA female adapter cable (about 14$ on ebay). Plugged the HDMI part of it in my XBOX360 and then I hooked up my old Computer LCD screen to the VGA part of the adapter. WOW. It made a huge difference. Now I can see everything properly and finally am able play this game properly. The difference is like day and night ! Before doing this, I was trying to play but I was missing so much information that it did not make sense to keep going. The feeling of finally beeing able to see icons and text properly is quite a relief.

That beeing said, it is not normal that we have to this in order to be able to play. This has to be fixed.

The font size correction is in the next patch. Wait and see.
