I'm 18 hours in, barely have scratched the main campaign and still have tons of side quests to do. It's beautiful and fun, don't listen to the haters. The 'Skyrim' comparisons make zero sense to someone who has played both games. What they've done here has recharged my hopes for the next Mass Effect.

I said the same thing. After just playing this for 20+ hours, I am beyond excited for whats planned for the ME universe. My imagination went crazy with the possibilities.

Agreed, Skyrim and this game have diffirent focus and play completely diffirently. Skyrim might have stories in it for it to play through but it's focus is on crafting your own story by sandbox exploration, doing whatever you want in any order you want, when you want. In DA:I it's vice versa with a heavier emphasis on narrative and dialogue.

The game might not be perfect and the tactical cam leaves alot to be desired, and the gameplay might not be as deep and tactical as DA.O but it's atleast a huge improvement from DA2 and so far i'm having a blast!

I'm not sure I understand this thread. For those of us considering to buy the game who should we believe then, the people who praise it like its the greatest thing in gaming, or the people who just plain hate it. If you ask me both sides are biased, I don't like either one. I have taken a look at reviews, mainly the ones available at metacritic, mostly the detailed ones and mostly the ones that go from 5-9, none of the 10s or 0s, or the people who are out there "claming to restore the balance of things" because there are too many zeroes or what not.

Nonetheless, a pattern comes up in all of them, and that is the controls, the filler content, it feels like a single player MMO and that the story isn't really all that great. To be honest, I haven't made a decision yet, I'm waiting for youtube reviews, usually I think they put things more in perspective than other reviewers do. However, so far what my instinct is telling me, is to avoid this game.

In my opinion you would be doing yourself a disservice by avoiding this game, but it's your choice.  Everything is deeper than in DA2, the world feels alive and full of stuff to do (optional stuff, the people complaining about all the side quests are a little silly because it's for the most part optional), the companions are hella interesting...

Controls on PC are weird, but I've adapted and they're fine now.

I second this. In the end when it comes to reviews, you must first understand "who" is reviewing and "how" they are reviewing it. But before that, you must clearly understand what "YOU" want out of a game like this. From that information you can properly sort through all of the reviews and pull out the pieces that matter to you and get an overall idea of what the game may be like for you.

So imo, I cannot tell you whether you are right or wrong to buy or not buy this, but I can say this:

If you are a lover of RPG games and if you liked DA:O or DA 2, then it is very difficult for me to believe you wouldn't enjoy this game. Outside of that I'm not sure much will help you make that decision unless you just go ahead and buy it from Origin, with the game guarantee that gives you a chance to return it if you don't like it.

I am sure the game is great.

Problem is don't go saying we can't say it's unplayable, because for a lot of us it literally is.

18 FPS on high end hardware, game crashes every 5 minutes.... To me that is unplayable.

Aside from disliking the controls and the new potion system I didn't really have any issues with the game, the game itself seems incredible, everyone who is actually able to play it pretty much feels that way. I am sure if they actually patched the game and made it stable, the metacritic score would go up from 5.4 to like 8 or 9/10.

I really haven't decided yet, though if I don't get it now, its likely I'll get it later when it is cheaper. I didn't like DA2 to be honest, I did love DA:O and still do. It was just one of my favorite games ever. I'm not expecting DA:O 2 though, if it were that I wouldn't mind.

Regardless, this is the reason I said I don't like to trust overly positive or negative reviews, because to be honest neither one really reflects anything about the game. Anyway, your input does provide good reasons for me to buy it. Also I did not know you could do that with Origin, good to know.

Waiting is cool, by then they'll probably have some minor little changes patched in to make the experience smoother.

I stand by this in my own logic. I agree wholeheartedly. You should never base a decision on overly positive or negative reviews or opinions.

That said, there are a few unbiased reviews on here and in general that you can pull from. In most of those you will hear that the game has very minimal issues, but overall it is great. I think that is the best objective opinion you will receive. I love the game so much its rediculous, but as a long time gamer, I understand my taste aren't someone else's and that doesn't have to make me right or wrong about my views, and vice versa. I respect your caution and honestly if more of the "angry" people were like you, they would probably have avoided frustration. I have a lot of respect for those who can wait to purchase a game they've been waiting for. I suck in this area, hence the high level of respect for that trait :-p

Good luck in your decision

This game is SO nostaligic... that I had to fix my computer to play.

I'll explain.

When I was younger, I would always have to "fix" my computer to get games to play.  Bioware duplicated it by doing some weird missing C+++ script that made the game crash.

I was ready to be upset - but then I fixed it.

The game is spectacular.  That younger PC gamers never had the "fix computer to make game work" days... is a shame, and I hope you're embracing this education from your elders. It's a joke - calm down overly sensitive hyperbolic younger person.

Get this game and decide for yourself - but I think it'll be worth every penny.

I see it is pointless to debate this. Like usual this forum doesn't fail disappoint. I don't know if I want to buy it or not, what has been said leaves me unsure. I won't waste my time here, since apparently the only right answer is to purchase the game regardless. Like I said I saw this same behavior in another thread, when someone else said they would buy a certain type of game in heartbeat but not this one because they got burned in the past, and immediately that was taken as hostility.

You know what's funny, you claim that I came with my mind made up, but this thread does this exact same thing. "Yes the game has problems but its still awesome so you shouldn't listen to the people who are worried about it".

I never said you should buy it. What I pointed out was an inconsistency in your statements. You don't trust the reviews but at the same time (given your last paragraph of your opening post) you state that you feel you ought to avoid the game. It sounded to me like you had a stance or had your mind made up.

The game does have problems. It's tactics are not perfect and it's k&m controls have a learning curve but all I've said is it still is a good game despite those flaws. I won't say don't listen to people who are worried about it but I will say there is a lot of hyperbole from some of the detractor side. But if you haven't really made up your mind then great. I told someone else to read other gaming forums today and I'll do the same. If you don't trust the opinions here then do take a look at other sites. I would however discourage anyone from ever reading about a game on metacritic as it's a time waste.

Simply put, if you exclude the issues the PC players have had, and ask most console players about the game they'll tell you what boils down to the same thing:  it's a masterpiece.  I couldn't even be bothered talking about little nit-picky things, because to be honest, they are very minor compared to many other games.

If anyone has played and enjoyed other Dragon Age games, Mass Effect and Skyrim, then it's very simple...this should be your very next purchase.  It mixes story, characters, and some of the most well-executed side quests I've ever seen in a game.  As I make my way around the Hinterlands, I feel like even my smallest actions matter in the grand scheme of things.  Skyrim has its share of fetch quests, and they do get tedious.  But most of these simply fall into place if you just explore.  Dig through caves, and buildings, and under brush.  It's a big, beautiful world, so do yourself a favor...don't rush.  Look at everything.  Soak it all in.

IMO, Inquisition is the absolute best game on the new gen systems, regardless of genre.  It reminded me why I love games again.

So I left the Hinterlands (love that zone) to do the main story line in Crestwood. The one where you take the keep and close the underwater rift. Along the way I met up with Hawke. Man that was truly an awesome quest with plenty of "oh wow" moments.

I can understand frustrations over performance issues but after that the game, for me anyway, changed from really good to epic. I'm lovin' it!

PC here, not top of the line by any means. After fiddling around with various settings the game runs decent and looks fantastic. But after the time spent in Crestwood I want more so I'm thinking maybe a PS4 for somewhere around Xmas. Maybe Santa will be good to me :D

Damn right it is. Without spoilers, everybody just started singing and I felt it. I just had one of those 10/10 moments I haven't experienced since the opening scenes of the suicide mission in ME2.

Bioware are back to their best,

Problem is if the game is so great why do we need to fiddle around with the PC controls until we are used to it and some things like walking are not included if you use the keyboard and mouse. Also the OP is from Germany and the date this thread started was before the EU released the game so who knows if the OP views are still the same after playing it if OP is playing the PC version.

Not more like 6/10 instead of 10/10 for DA 1. Only console players have the right to call this game great as this game is clearly design with a controller in mind.

Most PC gamers can never get used to it looking at the huge number of complains before bioware gave in and promise to improve it.

This game crashes a lot on PC because it's a bad console port. It's obviously not because many PC players are too lazy to maintain their own systems and keep it up to date. We should not be held responsible that a next-gen game can't run on our 2010 driver software.
