Varric isn't romanceable at all.

The people that can be romanced are:

Cullen - human/elf women only

Iron Bull - anybody

Blackwall - women only

Solas - female elves only

Dorian - men only

Sera - women only

Josephine - anybody

Cassandra - men only

I'm a male dwarf and it gave me the option to romance Cullen though I didn't do it.

A bug in the game, it seems. Several players are saying the game thinks your character is of the opposite gender.

Dwarves are my favorite race to play. I've been playing dwarves in D&D for 25+ years. So I can't really answer the question in the title, I just want to voice my favor of the dwarves.

An option to use flirts or an option to have a romance?   You can flirt with characters that won't accept you as a romantic partner.  I got some mild disapproval from Cassandra that way. :D

Dunno, but I do have a dwarf warrior career planned out and I expect to have a lot of fun with it. He will be a "bowling ball" in combat -- short, but compact, and knocks people all around.

Maybe it's because dwarves are limited to two classes (no mages) and so they are screwed if people play those classes with the other races?

Well that stinks. And thanks. I'd still like to know where you found out about it.

It's all over the forums but here is a link to a romance guide I found: http://segmentnext.c...how-to-romance/

Tall is considered attractive. You can ask that question in real life. I guess people just find tall folks more attractive. People who play role-playing game want to be their ideal self, not to be remind of who they are.

Slightly off topic: Does anyone know who the romance options for dwarven characters are?

Everyone except Cullen and Solas.

Dwarves are unpopular among players because they are short and they cannot be mages.

I am a 5'5" guy and am practically invisible. I know that is not too short but it is short.  I personally find it a good thing, it means I can just go around do whatever I want because I am not noticed very much.

Because of this I tend to actually play dwarves a lot. Primarily as rogues or as an infiltrator-engineer hybrid. I like Dwarven tech and their short height allows them to make mischief without raising too much attention.

In most fantasy games, I usually play as Elven mages and as Dwarven rogues.

I actually dislike playing as humans or qunaris because they are so tall and I find it hard to be them for roleplaying purposes. Also I am a human in real life so it is boring to be one in a fantasy as well.

I guess it's just to flirt then, I don't know since I haven't tried it. The option has popped up multiple times with him, and I don't have the gender bug since all my other flirts have been with Vivenne, Cassandra, and Justina.

I'm playing a dwarf warrior right now and enjoying it. I like their lore, backstory and ideals. They can be given a naturally charismatic personality which I like. And since it's not like I'm going to miss anything, as I'm going to play through multiple times, I figure why not just enjoy myself. :)

I think it has to do to the fact that dwarfs don't look intimidating nor serious enough. Most players probably imagine the Warden, Hawke and the Inquisitor as an alpha type of person, and of all races the dwarfs are probably the less fitting for this due to their physical appearance being almost comic. Even Bioware reinforced that by giving us only two dwarf companions across the three games, and both being comic figures (well, there was Sigrun too, but she had a lesser role compared to Ohgren and Varric). Bioware actually recycled Varric for DAI, so that we can have a single dwarven companion. I would say even for Bioware it is difficult to come up with a new dwarven character. Elves and Humans have been much better represented, not only in numbers but also in different personalities.

I'm rolling a dwarf because I love being about to defeat enemies while swinging a sword twice my height.

Additionally, I'm a 5"10 women, so I like being about to experience life as a short person.

I´m 5"7" but people seem to notice me all the time. Might be because of my years in power lifting have made me a bit bulky, I have shaved head (not bald, just extremely short) and black leather jacket I tend to sport. I don´t know if that is a good thing though.

They can't be mages, so I'll certainly never play one.

Others may have reach. But they have crotches at headbutt height.

Go team dwarf!

I'm a Qunari for first playthrough because, new.  Planning a Cadash rogue for second playthrough, though.  And I've played dwarves a fair bit in AD&D2e.  It's fun laughing at your party members as they fall victim to poisons and spells that you get a ridiculous bonus against.

No mage class and considering how bad clipping and animations are for female Elves, I'd hate to see how bad it is for female dwarves. :/

Humans are the ones playing this game, kossith are unique to the world, and elves have always been more popular than dwarves.

Once again showing that Thedas has a slight fetish for female elves, with them having the most romance options. Heh.

Female Elves: 6
Female Humans: 5
Female Qunari: 4
Female Dwarves: 4

All Males: 4

My first warden was a dwarf because to me a dwarves warden would be the against darkspawn but my head canon is a city elf because I like elves more.

My only reason for not being a dwarf in Inquisition is because I can't have a female dwarf romance to go with him. But I will play a dwarf on my second play, it just won't be my head canon.

The "Below the Belt" Rogue Ability in a Human is a kick... In the dwarf, A Headbutt.
