Better to play with a darkspawn instead of a dwarf
Why are dwarves the least popular race to play in your opinion?

I'm rolling a dwarf because I love being about to defeat enemies while swinging a sword twice my height.
Additionally, I'm a 5"10 women, so I like being about to experience life as a short person.
Same deal, Splatterhound. I'm tall in RL, and I enjoy playing someone petite (but still curvy). Plus, it's fun talking to Varric at eye level, almost ridiculously so. Yeah, I know he isn't romanceable, but I imagine they have a kind of kinship, in a way.

In all seriousness, I love playing dwarves. The closest thing to a "canon" warden for me was a commoner dwarf who embraced the chance to escape the slums and become something great. I'm loving the feel of my reluctant hero/messiah inquisitor, shouting that he's no one special yet constantly burdened by the expectations of the humans surrounding him.
But it's also an unconventional choice, and I understand that. Actually, if dwarves were more popular I think I'd play them less - I like feeling like I'm enjoying something few others have.

Same size, but I would rather play as a tall person. Dwarven females are cute in this game, but I've never completed any game when I started a short, stocky character. I might start one if I make multiple playthroughs but who knows if I will complete it this time. I'm more likely to go against type by playing male, simply because I'm quite taken with Cassandra and Dorian.

I always joke that when people say they have elven features, I say I have dwarven ones. I'm short and stocky and generally quite dwarven looking as it is. :3 I don't quite have the stubble I've given my dwarven inquisitor, but that's mostly because she looks naked facially without it and Dwarven women with facial hair just fits.

Varric isn't romanceable at all.
The people that can be romanced are:
Cullen - human/elf women only
Iron Bull - anybody
Blackwall - women only
Solas - female elves only
Dorian - men only
Sera - women only
Josephine - anybody
Cassandra - men only
Cullen just doesn't like dwarf girls because they don't look like the mage initiates he struck down in the Harrowing, the sick fak.

I´m 5"7" but people seem to notice me all the time. Might be because of my years in power lifting have made me a bit bulky, I have shaved head (not bald, just extremely short) and black leather jacket I tend to sport. I don´t know if that is a good thing though.
Ah well. I am 5'5" tall and 128 pounds in weight. So I actually look quite thin see. I have extremely short hair as well. However, I am into long distance running so I am lean.
Lean, thin, short haired guy who spends his time reading and studying....That's me...So obviously I do not get much attention and I like it that way...

Personally, I am going with a Dwarven rogue as my first character & Dwarven noble was my favorite background for Origins. I love dwarves the most but tend to play humans a lot too as dwarves can't be mages.
I also tend to hate elves. The stereotypical elven qualities of being just better at everything is atrocious-- they're humans but more beautiful, more graceful, more thoughtful, more angelic, blah blah blah YUCK. They are the Mary Sue fantasy race. The City Elf was one of the only actually interesting Elven portrayals, and once I found out you had to be Dalish as an Elven Inquisitor, I immediately crossed them off as an option. The Dalish are the most boring tree hugger forest elf BS-- elves are even better at nature than rural humans, thus we will never get the option to play a Chasind.
I am an outlier in all this I know, but I am also on the older side of the fanbase (36) and as a stocky guy with a big beard, dwarves are right up my alley.
As for the preference for tall heroes, I guess I just don't care about that. Aren't we all rooting for Tyrion as the main hero of Game of Thrones? Because I really, really don't care when the stereotypical brave & tall people die on that show. The archetypal hero types tend to be either idiots like Ned or boring like Robb. Even the best female character is the shortest-- Arya.

Once again showing that Thedas has a slight fetish for female elves, with them having the most romance options. Heh.
Female Elves: 6
Female Humans: 5
Female Qunari: 4
Female Dwarves: 4All Males: 4
Well.... elves are considered to be physically attractive in DA actually.... I would imagine female elves in particular, plus the fact they can roleplay pretty much anything in bed. Wild Dalish huntress? Check. Rebellious Circle Mage? Check. Obedient Tevinter slave? Check. Prostitue? I've seen a handful in High Town. They pretty much beat the competition ![]()
But on the topic of dwarves - it's been said a thousand times, but dwarves DO appear to be more of a comic relief for the franchise. Add in the lack of magery and the (potential) problems with animating romances, and the player may not take the character seriously.
Personally, my canon characters are always elves (or half-elves), just because I have a thing for pointed ears and magic. Add the trope of oppression and racism of DA, and it's perfect. I've never been a dwarf guy, but to be honest - DA dwarves are by far my favourite interpretation of the race, especially non-surface dwarves
Although the Qunari are more original, I actually prefer conversing with dwarves. I had a wonderful bromance with Varric in DA2, I'm eagerly expecting the same.
And remember, where does the all-so-precious lyrium come from? That's right baby, from the dwarven thaigs
Also, I would never trust anyone but a dwarf to craft me weapon or armour. Frickin' humans are too clumsy.

I like playing as a mage in my canon runs. Also, because I find that mages make the game easier to play as or else I'll lock into one mage companion the rest of the way. So that's usually the reason why it didn't happen and since I already played as an elven mage and (forced into) a human mage for the previous titles, respectively, I decided to try a Qunari mage. When I get home I'll post a picture of him. At my parents' for a few days and won't be back till Saturday. I'll post it on twitter @AlexMeth182, start streaming a bit on twitch (if I can figure out how), and also a still of it on the BSN post your inquisitor picture. I think he's going to melt some hearts.
But I don't dislike dwarves at all! I had to take shots to grow. One of my favorite runs in DA:O was as Serdámàn Aeducan. She was like the Joker and just wanted to watch the world burn. She let the Dalish die, but not because of what Zathrian did. She did it for the luls. She killed Bhelen (naturally for his betrayal but also to end the Aeducan line [she's a lesbian]) but she also killed Trian (because he was an ass to her, not for power [that helped but wasn't the main reason]). She made certain the anvil was saved because after all: Golem army! She hopes to one day to return to Orzammar to lead that army... surface or elsewhere. She let the circle mages live because she isn't affected by magic and would happily allow demons around. Even still, she killed Connor because she wanted his mother to watch her son die. She defiled the Sacred Ashes for the luls. She didn't kill Zevran 'cause she wanted a prisoner and slave. Mostly for others to watch what happens if they cross her. She let Loghain live to die by killing the Archdemon but she didn't know that would happen. Turned out to be a lucky result. She let Cailan's body be eaten by wolves because he was an idiot and fool. She killed the Architect because after she was done listening to him, she was bored and didn't really care what he had to say. Plus, even as much of a ruthless, insane Dwarf as she is -- that's still a Darkspawn. In order to get there, she let Amaranthine burn, but only to hear the screams of the people. And of course she stabbed Morrigan: for the luls.
It was a great playthrough.

Tall is considered attractive. You can ask that question in real life. I guess people just find tall folks more attractive. People who play role-playing game want to be their ideal self, not to be remind of who they are.
Dwarf don't have Napoleon complex. Only human !

I love Dwarves, they are cool, funny, and all. But my Inquisitior is going to be my main character in the DA series, yes I know it sounds freakey and weird, but I must have a main char in a series, so! He is an Elf, the elven culture just fit to my pepoles culture in real life, thats why I will play as an elf, other than that, if in DA4 there will be playable races I will pick somthing difrent, and if we dont play as the Inquisitor ofc, and to all of you that have been disgusted by a dwarven sex scene with a tall human elf or whatever in DAO things like this happen in real life. I am not short myself, but I am being totally disgusted to see pepole that are being disgusted by somone that dosent looks "nice" to them by LOOKS and that they DO NOT know he's or her's personallty, wather that person is fat, short or both or homosexual or whatever, it is not nice!

Thanks. It was a lot of fun to play as her. Once I realized there was no way for her to regain the throne I just was like... well if she can't have it then to hell with her trying to reclaim it from Harrowmont. But I had planned early on that her personality was like that. Considering my canon and first run through was as an elven mage who was getting familiar to the world (just like myself) and was playing it with how I saw the world, I wanted one where I was just a completely evil in the most chaotic sense of the word.
But if you can message me what word you starred or spoiler tag it, I want to get a full scope as to what you called her because I have an idea but I'm uncertain. I get the feeling that Warden Serdámàn Aeducan is looking for a way to get rid of the taint because she's done with being an errand girl. Being held by the taint, the Wardens, and to an extent by Corypheus is not acceptable to her by any means. Removing it is a must. And if reports are true that your Warden may help the Inquisitor there's only one reason she would have done so. She will do it because she requires a favor and once that favor is completed: she'll get Branka to turn him into a Golem. I can't decide though if she would kill him and then turn him into a Golem or not. My gut says that's what she would have done, but I'm on the fence. Not saying that's feasible at all, but even though she was chaotically evil, she did have a small practical side. And usually when there was something practical involved it was for greater destruction.

1)dwarfes cant be mages and majority play as mages
2)dwarfs are small and many does not like play as small heroes, they are no getting them serious...players was really hate then elfs was shorter and thiner then humans
3)not a single dwarf romance and lack of companions and representation..yes we have awesome companions but their are not unique and the same..Varrick and Ogren was more in games as companions then they need to be
4)less pro dwarf content in games what is always have pro humans and less non-humans content, game(and i personaly hate when bio makes trailers to show human protag) is mostly consider you as human and nonmage.
5)dwarfs females have a beards now
