How could you have seen that and not seen the ceiling drops? :D

They don't drop if we are technical about it..they crawl down the wall.
But point of that part is that Quizzy is scared of spiders...so you arachnophobic guys gonna have hell of a role play experience...i am so jealous.

@Darkov everyone I've come across except that one I've snuck up on while it conversed in a circle with it's friend. Must have been lunch time. :P

I won't spoil it but there is MASSIVE spider in this game and you won't see it coming.

Joy. <_< Can you tell me/us in which zone that happens?

I really wish devs would stop putting giant spiders in all the fantasy games. Morrowind was a breath of fresh air for not having them.

First time I found those spider caves near the Storm Coast starting camp, I said eff that and legged it. (And yes, that one spider in the Hinterlands was an unexpected as well as unpleasant surprise, too.) Yesterday I came back and forced myself to explore them although the combination of cramped + dark + spiders is nightmare fodder for this arachno- and claustrophobe. The tactical camera jumping to newly-selected characters also does not help when said character is one of my sword & board gals (Inquisitor & Cassandra) staring the blighters right into all eight eyes. I managed by focusing on the mechanics, not really looking at them, and willing myself to think "generic combat target" instead of "argh crap bigass spider", but it wasn't fun.

Could we start tracking the suckers? Like make a list of where they are found in each area so that us with arachnophobia can just avoid them? Maybe even create images of each area map and circle the caves and stuff to avoid? Anyone want to be the owner of such a thread? Pretty please? :kissing:

(So far I have avoided 2 caves with massive spiderwebs at the entrance (Storm Coast), switching to tactical camera I saw the outlines of them in there through the walls. I am only 20 hours in and have only seen the ones at the beginning of the game.)

I'm honestly curious about this, why do people get scared of in game models of spiders?

Aracnophobia, perhaps on an irrational level for some people. Nonetheless, I feel for the people who are fearful of spiders. At least this game doesn't have clowns in it. The masks in Orlais though? Creepy.

So in the Storm Coast, there's a few caves where they spawn. Scratch the few, they spawn in every cave except for Daerwin's Mouth which is northwest of the western most camp, also known as Driftwood Margin Camp.

They also spawn in places at the Emerald Graves, where exactly I cannot recall, but I do know a big one spawns there. I think it's quest related, because I can't find it after having run around most of the map.

Another location where spiders spawn is in the Hissing Wastes, located at the bottom of the Canyon near where the merchant is. I believe you have to have access to the Western Approach and complete a War Table operation to unlock the zone... found another lot of spiders in the tomb to the far north, where the Colossus is. Being an area in perpetual night, I think most of the tombs will house spiders.

I recall some spawning in the Hinterlands once you move the Druffalo from near that level 12 Fade Rift. Uhm... they also spawn in another area but I can't for the life of me recall where. You know what? I'll jump in game and find the areas I know of, will update as I scour each zone. Will continue this at a later date, the save I'm doing this on is almost complete, however the second game I'm playing through is only just begun so I can list them as I find them.

I haven't run into any that drop from the ceiling, or if I have, I don't recall it. Now the next part is spoilery, so I will put it into spoiler tags.

So as the game goes on, they start popping up more frequently. Some will even swoop (intended) down from the ceiling in places. Of course there's also the giant--and I mean GIANT--one...

Why do people get turned on by game models of naked people?

Eyes see, the brain receives the image, fills in the blanks and reacts. If you have arachnophobia it can be enough stimulus to trigger it in some cases.

Spiders are present, but are quite rare. They are mostly just on the ground, but they have tendency to be present in very, very dark locations (unless you find a torch and ignite it, you'll barely see anything) and they can come out from the darkness straight at you.

Thay're nowhere near as abundant as spiders in previous games however.

Arachnophobia isn't a rational fear but it is no less real. In some people even a drawing of a spider can cause an involuntary panic reaction.

There are Storm Coast caves where spiders respawn often, but they don't scare me like DA:O spiders did.

They aren't too bad in the Hissing Wastes either. Still gross, but they're on the ground and sort of just sit there unless you get too close.

Also they don't hiss this time, thank god.

So true.  Bears are the true threat to all life on Thedas.  Relentless, unstoppable, immune to fear or pain, completely without mercy....personally I think the Inquisitor should team up with demons to stop the bear menace.

Also, I'm not keen on spiders, but I will say the DA:I spiders are not as visually horrifying as, say, Frostbite Spiders in Skyrim.  So I've been OK with them so far.  Well, except for those ones in the Forbidden Oasis.  They're pretty hard to fight, it's dark, and they swarm you.  I mostly didn't like that because I was way too low level to fight them properly, but for those who have arachnophobia, it probably wouldn't be fun.

You can pretty much avoid them though.  One snuck out, but one on one they can be beaten down fairly effectively.

Most of the spiders in Thedas moved to Australia for DA:I, to be with their slightly larger cousins.

I found two spots in Crestwood where spiders drop from the ceiling. Thankfully they didn't actually spook me much anymore beyond a brief "WHAT ... oh, right" moment. Practicing on the ones in the Storm Coast caves paid off. :P Locations:

True, but at least the quest warns you about it before you go in, and it's a side mission. So you can get by just ignoring that cave.

The Rift ability also makes very short work of the majority of the pack, if that helps.  Rift ability plus a grenade (I love the Jar of Bees)= dead before they can touch you.

I really wish Bioware could find some other giant arthropods to throw at players.
