I'm going to be able to craft my first set of armor and I have my eye on this guy. I'm curious how his damage is and how well he can mitigate it?
Arcane Warrior.. How is he?

You are a glass cannon initially, but as of level 11, I can solo quite large groups thanks to the emergency barrier skill and some defensive/mana passives. From my perspective, its a high risk, high reward class. You either wade into a group of enemies and mow them all down, or you get shredded and die immediately ![]()
I'm at work at the moment though and can't get skill names/descriptions.
Whilst I've only pugged so far, I've always come top of the scoreboard at the end, live or die. Most staff kills and most ability kills. Only had an Elementalist come close to me in sheer kill volume, so I'm happy with it.

I've just got Mind Blast too, but that was the last thing before logging off last night. In theory that should help with survival, when things are tough, fire that off and knock them back a bit.
Was pretty common for me to run off into a pack and then try to run away when things went wrong. Red Templars being the most annoying as they actually block your blade like they would a normal sword swing.
EDIT: I suspect tanks hate playing with me as well. Crazy Arcane Warrior, running ahead, firing off Lightning to agro the entire room, then standing in a choke point to mow them down with my Blade, or die trying.

Thanks for the upload Darkov. So sounds like I found my Drell Vanguard/ Glass Cannon class. Thanks for that.

Havent tried above threatening, but its awesome fun playing the class and having 1% heal per hit and 5% heal on kill due to my weapon. He tanks mooks, and can semi-tank stronger enemies.

I love the way some times you feel invincible and other times you feel like you're made of paper, but you're always throwing out insane amounts of damage.
Taking all of my effort to pull myself away from it and go back to the single player ![]()

So I promised myself I would get to the portion of SP where your Inquisitor can send out agents, before actually starting DAMP, but the more you all describe the A Dubs, the more I want to play MP... So for my Inquisition's sake, can you all lay off the awesome sauce talk-up?I love the way some times you feel invincible and other times you feel like you're made of paper, but you're always throwing out insane amounts of damage.

Seriously though, I can not wait to unlock this guy now. I know in my weekend group I will probably be the Keeper for a while, but PUGing weeknights/mornings, I will learn the ways of the AW.
BTW any good build suggestions so far? Wherefore art thou, Stardusk?

Ya i want to play this class so bad. I have a 165dps purple Greatsword I found last night which would go really well with a Reaver. I just can't bring myself make one though. Arcane Warrior looks like a blast to play even with a bad staff. I havent been able to find one over 37 dps yet.

I don't know about a good build, but I'm working down the mentalism tree, haven't felt a need to take anything else at this point quite happy with the skills and passives from it.

If your Arcane Warrior has Spirit Blades and the passive that grants him barrier based on damage done, you can potentially face-tank a revenant. With a 67 dps staff, I could do at least 250 damage per hit on the revenant and gain barrier quickly enough to take its melee hits with only minimal damage to health on routine difficulty.
This doesn't seem to work so well for most other enemies, though. Maybe the revenant just has a particular weakness to the damage type of Spirit Blades.

This is true, when you can connect and do damage you easily gain more barrier than the damage you take. However, I find in some groups that the other players will focus on my targets too much, meaning they do enough damage to the enemies that I don't do and can't get much barrier up.
Its a nasty trade off. If people left me to solo a group of mobs I would be fine, but the more they help, the weaker my barrier is and the more damage I take from them all attacking me.

So far, he's a blast to play, but since his weapon determines both his damage AND survivability, he's really dependent on a decent stave. I'm stuck with a 55 dps rare right now, wah-wah. Still fun, but I have trouble generating enough barrier to play him the way I want to.

I got mine today and leveled him to 15. Here are my thoughts on him:
- Fade Cloak increases his survivability significantly, since it even lets you get up from the ground and decloaking blast does nice damage and works well against mooks who constantly block your Spirit Blade (biower pls fix)
- Tapping the key for Spirit Blade once for every strike is better than holding it down, since it will be easier to stop slashing
- The slashing animation of Spirit Blade is pretty long if you want to start running afterwards, but you can cancel it by jumping or using Chain Lightning
- For some Reason Chain Lightning damage gave me barrier just like the Spirit Blade
- He can work quite well as a tank, but only if you don't skill Mind Blast and the passive that reduces your threat by 50%
- Having Fade Cloak makes me wonder if I even need Mind Blast, since it just makes the enemies run away - Fade Step may be more useful

- All his damaging spells will give you barrier. Chain Lightning will give a massive amount if there's more than one target.
- After trying it out, I find Fade Step incredibly useful. It's really fast and goes far, and is amazing for kiting enemies. Also, it costs no mana (not sure if this is intended).

I could see Fade Cloak working for the Arcane Warrior since he wants to stay close to enemies. Other than that it is absolute garbage for most casters since there is no speed bonus and it only lasts for 2 seconds. Still, the 1,000% damage would be nice to help weaken/finish enemies; I'm just not sure if it is better than another skill.
I know it sounds crazy but the Spirit Blade, despite being incredibly powerful, should only be used in specific situations. All too often I see Arcane Warriors run off ahead, agro an entire room, and get overwhelmed when their damage cannot keep their barrier active. Better to play as a second line between the tank and ranged/support classes and off-tank if the situation requires it. While the Arcane Warrior can be used as a primary tank, without taunts to hold attention it really hurts the rest of the group. Too many Arcane Warriors try to do everything instead of playing to their strengths. It's a great class but most players have a lot to learn about it since they see Warrior in the name and forget that it's still a Mage.

Fade Cloak is an awesome survival tool that also does massive damage and throws mooks to the ground. If two or three mooks are clustered together closely then it can hit all of them. You can also use it to run through any boss or to mitigate most of the damage while reviving teammates. And it only has a 12 second cooldown, less than that if you spam staff or blade attacks.
And I disagree about Spirit Blade, it should be your main form of attack. The damage is extremely high and if you have many enemies around you, each swing can hit more than one. My only problem so far were bosses who could constantly throw me to the ground.

IMO, you should be building up your barrier before you start using Spirit Blade. This allows you to determine how much damage you can absorb before needing to relocate/retreat. The Arcane Warrior has some very powerful spells that do more for the group than Spirit Blade could ever manage. It is a shame most are fixated on using only the blade. Anyway, I agree that Fade Cloak is useful for the Arcane Warrior, but for the other Mage classes it serves very little purpose.

As an Arcane warrior you should always start the fight with Chain Lightning which will give you plenty of shields. Then you can either use Fade Step to rush into the enemies or if you don't have it run towards them, activate Fade Cloak and start with a nice explosion. After that start swinging and spamming Chain Lightning whenever available. Fade Cloak is for when your barrier goes down and Chain Lightning can't be used or when you need to evade a certain attack.
Using a mixture of the Spirit Blade, Chain Lightning spam and the occasional Fade Cloak explosion let's you do a ton of damage. Especially since Chain Lightning can be used to cancel the long swing animation.
