You'd want to go for the passive that gives you barrier based on spell damage dealt. It really helps with survivability. Upgraded Chain Lightning becomes your most reliable barrier generator if there are multiple enemies in range.

Mana regeneration is good, too, so that you can use powers more often.

The rest would probably on your play style. Fade Step and Fade Cloak are pretty good if you plan to wade in close with enemies or like to kite them.

You should also try to get Conductive Current.

My playstyle looks like this:
Cast Lightning storm
fade step to your enemies
fade cloak to make sure your barrier stays up
stay in the middle if the enemies for Decloaking Blast
and while doing so spam spirit blade

This is my favorite class so far. I haven't unlocked Katari, Elementalist, Assassin, and Necromancer. I saw a thread that Elem is fantastic and I've seen my friend get pissed that the Necro is terrible (in terms of his main necro ability not even working properly). So out of the 9 that I know of, since hearing Elem was good is hearsay, Arcane Warrior is definitely my favorite.

Fade Cloaking to solo any individual enemy or just to pop some poor fool and gain huge barrier from it, Spirit Blades for high damage, Chain Lightning for barrier and dishing out dispersed damage, and Stonefist for weakening enemies.

^ My current set, though stonefist is changeable.

I'm not great at this game, but I've solo'd the Demon Commander while allies pick off little guys SEVERAL times with this set without the need for potions. It sounds like many of you are much better, but for a scrub like me that's an achievement lol. I haven't been able to do that with anyone else. Keeper's barrier works nicely to prevent death from him, but it pales in comparison to this guy's efficiency so far. Although, Keeper's barrier is much more useful in team since it doesn't require the enemy's focus to be on you.

My current sloppy build. It'll be fixed after promotion.

My current build is Spirit Blade, Chain Lightning, Fade Cloak and Fade step.

Casting Chain Lightning on a group of enemies and then rushing into them with Fade Step is awesome, feels like playing a vanguard. The best thing about Fade Cloak is that when you get thrown to the ground you can activate it and immediately get up. This allowed me to tank the Demon Commander and everything else in a hallway while my teammates could hang back. Fade cloak can also cancel the Demon Commander's stun.

I'm more curious about what weapon he uses. Sounds like he uses staves like all the other mages. No like. Sword wielding is the only way to roll Arcane Warrior!

Yes, his physical weapon is a staff, but he gets to wield Spirit Blade from the SP Knight Enchanter spec, a blade of magical force which deflects enemy projectiles. So he's kind of like a member of a certain mystical order from an obscure science fiction film from the 70s. See the link below:

He uses staves, but makes a spirit based sword on hitting spirit blade.  And yes, it is a good thing.  Craft-able staff upgrades can have heal on kill, very useful.

Personally my build uses chain lightning, spirit blade, pull of the abyss, and stonefist.

Generally open up with pull of the abyss, to weaken enemies and centralize them.  Cast a lightning afterwards and get barriers up while also fully restoring mana (because restorative veil).  Then either go in swinging or cast stonefist depending on the distance and time left on pull of the abyss.  React to situation as needed.

Did not know.  Im too attached to this build to make any modifications currently, but might come in handy elsewhere.

I haven't unlocked him yet, but wouldn't Pull of The Abyss followed by Stonefist lead to a combo detonation?

Just tested it against a red templar marksman on routine.  With pull followed by stonefist it did 530 damage.  Stonefist alone on a different marksman yielded 464 (more or less).  Pull weakened the enemy (in the applicable case), and stonefist did its normal knockdown in both cases, as well as weakening the non-pulled marksman.

See edit

So interpret that as you will.

Need to go, but will test later to see how much difference a weakening effect makes on damage.

Edit: Derp, forgot I took the passive that increase damage by 15% for weakened enemies.  So there appears to be no sort of combo or bonus damage applied to that combination.

Yeah, this was pretty much the same build I was considering.  Pull of the Abyss seems like such good CC that it can lock down a chokepoint or be used to gather up enemies for yourself or the rest of the group.  Stonefist is nice for some added CC and the weaken effect makes him even more durable.  Since I will not be using Dispel I am tempted to use Fade Cloak but I'm not sure which ability would be sacrificed.  Let me know if Pull of the Abyss' cooldown makes it situational over Stonefist, or if it combos too well with Chain Lightning to forgo.

If you are asking whether pull of the abyss or stonefist, I would say stonefist.  Pull of the abyss is a great ability capable of stalling enemy advances and grouping everyone in one convenient place... but those enemy units aren't my bane.

Its those flippin archers that usually knock me out, hence why I would say stonefist.  Whereas pull of the abyss only relocates and weakens the archers, stonefist does 500% weapon damage, knockdown, weaken, and stuns nearby archers.

Cant say I have much experience with fade cloak to give a solid opinion by comparison to the other two abilities.

Although I would say if you are very skilled at it, you could probably just take the spirit blade evo and deflect the shots while you approach.
