BTW I created a group for us

http://forum.bioware...-fan-creations/

Great initiative! I'm not a modder, but I support you big time and if you allow me an advice, I think we should concentrate all the important information in the group, because eventually the forum topic may be lost.

Looking forward for the news! Be strong guys, your effort will never be forgotten!

Awesome stuff, guys. All of this technical stuff, scripts, etc., is foreign to me, but does any of this mean we can soon expect to be able to extract, edit and repack things like textures?

If by soon you mean 1-2 months for textures and a year or two for big mods, yeah :P

What can I do to help?  It has been 20+ years since I looked at data the way you are doing, so my skills are a little rusty...

tehehe someone already got textures licked, we can at least view what's there for now. Getting modified textures into the game (texture swap) will take longer though

Denuvo (or whatever the name) got cracked by 3DM, so it might be possible to do some more extensive modding.

But it seems that even with proper tools, Frostbite is very un-moddable.

Does Frostbite support modding of game mechanics or are they so hardcoded that u can't touch them? I mean advanced party ai settings, modifying classes or skills/spells, etc? =) Can't wait for the get-rid-of-masonistic-symbolism-in-the-inquisition-mod. =) After all, ur the inquisitor, so why couldn't u choose to brand ur order like u wanted? If u don't like the satanistic symbolism in the Inquisition right now, would be nice to be able to re-texture and model the order logo for something else. xD

Retexturing static stuff is the easier mod to do, should be coming soon

Nothing is impossible to mod. But frostbite is not too friendly for that.

If they're all Ken/Barbie dolls, that is a major bust.

I wonder where to start with modding for DA:I. Back in the day I did a number of mods for BG2, but we had great tools--Infinity Explorer and DLTCEP--though as I recall those tools didn't appear until a couple years after BG2's release.

right now we don't have a way to plug the modded files back into DAI. There is a "table of contents" that lists the location and size of all game files like armor and texture, etc.. and this TOC is digitally signed. It will take a while to be able to find a work around that. But we can get the mesh and textures out, check my group, it is full of links to the tools

The guys at the Cheat Engine forum figured out how to stuff a changed and compiled lua file back into the game data. Hence it seems that the game data is not protected against content being changed (i.e. sub files being replaced). The work on initfs_Win32 looks promising, too...

Guys, I just wanted to say that I absolutely love you for taking the effort to try and crack the engine :) While I can't exactly be of any help, I know a lot of people, myself included, that are really cheering folks like you on and wish you the best of luck n.n

I complete agree. Those of us without the talent to contribute are indeed cheering you on.
