Inquisition makes me want to play Dragon Age 2

Let me start by saying this is meant to be constructive criticism; I love the games Bioware makes, but after six hours into Inquisition I can honestly say I'm not having fun with it.

I'll try to keep it to the point, and not rant.

1) Please let me customize my parties AI, like in Dragon Age 2.  To me this was the most fun aspect of the game.  I would trade the tactical camera in a heartbeat to see this return.

2)  Please return the movement and combat controls to the same as it was in Dragon Age 2.  These controls seem like step backwards.

3)  The interactions with my character and most of the NPCs has been watered down.  When I talk to NPCs, I want that cut-scene like approach to the conversation; not this "let's just stand here like robots and talk".

4)  The cut-scenes my character does take part in are rarely enjoyable.  Varric, Cassandra, and the other NPCS look great, but my character looks....special.  He almost never makes eye-contact and his default expression would make a tranquil seem animated.  I would give up all the fancy upgrades to the graphics, if it meant my character was more like Hawke in these cut-scenes.

5)  Having to press the "search" key constantly while I walk around feels like a chore and is not fun.

6) Respectfully requesting LESS emphasis on crafting please:  Crafting and resource gathering, in my honest opinion, is not limited to MMORPGs, but I think it should stay there.  It's a chore. It's work.  I want to spend my time enjoying the lore, watching the story unfold through interesting conversations, and killing bad guys to get their stuff.  I don't want to deal with schematics and formulas....just design some epic looking gear and have it drop for me.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I honestly do not thing I'm going to be able to play this game any further...as much as I wanted to know what happens in the story. I am probably going to request a refund today, and should no less than the top 5 of these items be fixed, I won't be returning to Dragon Age: Inquisition :(

I agree on both points. Nothing really to add. The control system is wonky, and the lack of an IF>THEN tactics system for party members is really frustrating.

3 doesn't bother me much, but I really noticed 4. But if I had to make a guess, the problem is not being caused by the graphical update, it's related to the race selection. Having such variety in height (Dwarf up to Qunari) means that they don't have as much freedom in movement and sight-lines.

5)  Having to press the "search" key constantly while I walk around feels like a chore and is not fun.

THIS IS HUGE. It drives me completely insane constantly tapping the search button. Just make it a toggle, please. It's insane. The only time it makes sense is when looking for the "hidden" items (Which is a fun element, make no mistake).

I'm going to have to completely disagree here. I love the crafting system, and it's a ton of fun to have such direct and intimate control over my characters' stats and appearance. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

However, ALL of these are very minor points. They diminish the value of the game, I would say, but none of this is enough to want a refund. The meat of the game is still there, and better than ever. If you don't enjoy the game, that's fine. Not everyone will agree. But these particular points seem like a bizarre place to draw the line. If you're not enjoying the game as it is, and the only thing they change is these six things, I doubt you would suddenly start enjoying the game.

I am playing DAII right now because after playing Inquisition I thought that maybe I couldn't remeber DAII gameplay well since I had the same backward impressions but now I'm sure, from an action point of view DAII is better. I'm playing DA:I anyway for the story and the world which is amazing but next time if gameplay isn't better than this I will look for something else.

I've quit playing & wish I hadn't spent the time I did on it.

The story to me is more than weak... Really no there there, the characters are wooden & poorly acted, I really don't care about any of them. The most satisfying option to me at this point is if I could just blow up the whole world & watch it burn.

I'm a DA veteran. Many many play throughs of Orgins & it still delights me. More than a few play through of DA2, & the characters were interesting enough to generate fan faction. This mess, meh.

I play for RPG. If the characters & plot are not interesting, there is no saving the game for me. And when did Theadas become humourless?

how long is the refund window from Origin? I'd rather go back to Origins and DA2 at this point... waited 3 years to me aggrivated and sad at the same time.

Honestly, I would probably just settle for having the ability to customize my party tactics again, everything else would just be bonus.

And some of us want an actual game with our characters and story.    For $70 we want our moneys worth. We do not everything handed to us.  You should not have expected the game to be like DA2

So you prefer a game where enemies materialize out of the ceiling. No offense...sounds like you just want instant gratification and everything handed to you.   Its a game. Its not supposed to be easy

So much wrong with this.

Where on earth did you pull that whole "instant gratification" cliche out of?

The problem is not necessarily game difficulty as you have okay-ish control over that via the difficulty slider -- it's the horrible, horrible control issues we have all over the place with the tactical camera barely able to scratch the top of our heads, the nightmare of movement control that is KB+M on PC etc etc etc.

I want to fight enemies, not my keyboard. (Poor keyboard.)

Yeah it's a game. It's supposed to be playable, which is not in its current state.

I wasn't expecting it to be like DA2.  I was expecting it to be better than DA2, but it plays like a beta version of DA origins.

the lack of an IF>THEN tactics system for party members is really frustrating.

What you mean the tactics are lacking? Are they gone? As in no custom tactics for party members? But we had that nice feature that worked so well in Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2, and we had the scripts in Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2:

IF
  HaveSpell(CLERIC_CURE_LIGHT_WOUNDS)
  See(MostDamagedOf(GroupOf(Myself)))
  HPPercentLT(MostDamagedOf(GroupOf(Myself)),75)
THEN
    Spell(MostDamagedOf(GroupOf(Myself)),CLERIC_CURE_LIGHT_WOUNDS)
END

But no tactics? NO TACTICS!? WTF IS GOING ON?!?!?! .... I'm a sad panda now

Yeah it's gone :(

There is a VERY watered-down version of Tactics in Inquisition.

You can choose what abilities your characters AI will use or not use, or make them "preferable".

And here you have some options for their combat AI but the IF > THEN customization is gone :(

@Surrogate

Thanks for the screenshots, though what they show make me an even more sad panda  :( Talk about simplifying one of the core tactical mechanics I’ve come to love so much in both Baldur’s Gate and previous Dragon Age games. I have great respect for the work Bioware do, but this change is a real letdown.
