Have I overestimated my PC? Or is playing through VPN causing this?

High lag when loading into a new zone
Cut scenes lags HARD, sometimes freezes

3D Card: Radeon HD7870
RAM: 8GB
CPU: i5 3.2GHz Quad Core
Dragon age installed on an SSD drive (Kingston if that matters)

The game generally runs fluid though! :)
Im just wondering if I've overestimated my PC or if playing the game through a south korean VPN is causing this lag? Does the latter matter much?

Custom. Most stuff is on high, but some things are ultra (like meshes) and some things I dont care about like shadow quality is on low.

You don't have to play through the VPN. Just launch Origin through VPN, then go in offline mode and disable the VPN.

No stutter here with vpn nor bad loading times:

graphics card: ati hd 6950 2GB

RAM: 8 gb

game is installed on a 7200 rpm game disk (ssd for windows)

cpu: amd phenom II x4 965 3.4 GHz

latest graphics drivers, windows 7 64-bits

Everything is on high, except textures, those are on ultra. So...don't think it's your PC but something else.

Fred: If I disable VPN the game goes offline instantly, not sure why.

Internet speed does not affect cut scene and loading performance at all then?

Did you update your drivers. DO a clean install of the new amd beta drivers, meaning uninstall from control panel old stuff then install the new beta ones. Also run the game in fullscreen, mantle as your API and TURN off every single ingame overlays.

Yeah update driver.  7870's and 6950's are pretty close in performance if memory serves me right so you should't have any isssues

Yes, mine does that too, but the DA servers don't check your IP - it is just the origin server that does. So once you have the play button appear in Origin, you can drop the VPN and start the game from Origin fine. If you close Origin, you will need to restart the VPN to allow Origin to check your game.

If you disable the VPN before clicking anything on the main screen, right after the initial video, it goes FINE.

Have you tried disabling the Origin overlay and check if it affects the stuttering?

Cheers!

This game doesn't seem to like background programs like Afterburner. Disabling that and my GPU overclock cured mine.

7950 with game set at ultra with MSAA disabled running on latest beta drivers
