As most new players join this game they usually flock to these threads wondering how the game is, and if they should buy it. If you are curious than this thread is for you.

I will be dividing this game into 5 simple sections and rate this game on how well each section turns out.

#1 Graphics- The Graphics of this game are purely breathtaking. Each area feels so much like it's own and has a different theme to it unlike many other RPGs that have one constant theme (We are looking at you ElderScrolls).Instead of going for the whole, (Im traveling across a grassy plain, or snowy mountain feel the areas a vast which allows for a truly Lord Of The Rings adventure like feeling. The character models are top notch this time around, allowing the player to fully customize things such as scar and tattoo intensity.+1

#2 Gameplay- This is both hit and miss for me. The gameplay is rather exciting and surprisingly repetitive compared to other dragon age games. Gone are the tactics and replaced with a rather dumbed down version of the system making you rely on the tactical camera to set up proper chain attacks. Healing spells as well as different mage specializations have been completely revamped and will turn a good number of heads to those just wanting to make a healer/support mage or even a debuffing/cursing mage. Blood Magic was completely lifted from this game and after playing about 20hours i have yet to hear "Blood Magic" mentioned once. Unfortunately healing spells in prior dragon age games have been removed for a streamlined potion belt/ health potion crafting system. Much like Dragon Age 2 the combat feels fast and fluid, and there have been nice additions like the tactical camera but for those players on PC will have a much more complicated experience as the controls have been made for the Console gamer. Auto Attacking also has been completely removed, and instead the player mush hold the R key to constantly auto attack. Pressing down the left and right mouse button no longer moves your player forward and goodbye click to move. The menus are a complete chore to navigate through on the PC version and this is going to turn off a lot of the PC master race. Unfortunatly for so many problems with the PC port im going to have to give this section. +0

#3 Story- The story of Inquisition is rather dull compared to many other dragon age games. In prior games there was something looming over the players head immediately and instead is replaced with constant political intrigue none of us missed from DA2. Mages vs Templars blah blah blah. In Origins the threat was coming from multiple areas and each new zone had a theme that expanded on this threat. Darkspawn was wreaking havoc in the lands, while you the player must fight to obtain a powerful army to challenge Logain a traitor who slandered the Grey Warden Name turning everyone against your order. While in the process you must fight your way through a demon infested mage tower, a city wrought with the undead, an underground city under turmoil, and a forest covered in werewolves. The characters are absolutely amazing this time around and comes in a close second to my origins team. Unfortunatly for this section im going to have to +0

#4 Customization- The customization in this game is pure amazing. Not once did i expect bioware to do such a fantastic job with their crafting system. You can creat hilts/shafts for your weapons or even boots/Shoulderpads for your armor adding stats you want on your items. You must venture out into the game to find crafting materials and unlike other RPGS these items self replenish and arent too hard to find. Making your characters feel your own is definetly focused upon in this game and im going to give this game +1

#5 Replayability- This game is actually quite vast and your choices affect the story in many ways. Being able to build your story the way you want it makes this game def worth playing through a second time. +1

My Verdict 3/5

Should i buy it? Sure if you are into dragon age, but if you didnt like the turn from origins in the second game i would recommend waiting until this game drops to about 20$. Also try and purchase it on consoles or purchase a gamepad to make your life easier.

Am I one of the only people that Actually liked the Politics, Intrigue, and Diplomacy from DA2?? I think the story is crafted quite nicely at least deserving a point.

I agree with HighChronicler. Even better: I love the whole concept of the Inquisition starting out as a fledgling organisation. You recruit people, set policies, I love this whole intrigue bit with my favourite bard ever, the diplomacy owns (so far, at least)... I love that stuff. Probably the reason why I loved Awakening so much, and less so the Warden's Keep DLC. I love the change of pace, too. Had enough of clunky battles with the controls, back to base, time for some intrigue :)

(But then, I loved fishing as a change of pace in WoW. Nothing better than a round of fishing after a progression raid. Those were the times...)

Besides, If you're really complaining about Diplomacy and Intrigue... Take a closer look at Origins, you might be surprised.

I decided to replay DA:O and DA2 for awhile and when I get done hopefully there will have been a couple patches to solve some of the issues, I love the game all except for the controls, I have no issues with an lag or glitches my system is running the game like a true champ.

I give the game a 3.5/5 if controls are adjusted an the UI cleaned up in some patches I may upgrade it to a 5 later.

I'd hardly call what DAII did politics, intrigue, and diplomacy. As far as political storytelling goes, DAII was abysmal at it (DAO was better, but still poor overall)

Which doesn't mean I don't love political storytelling. I do. Just that Bioware has not a clue in hell how to actually do it. DAI makes me hopeful they'll know what to do, but time will tell if it's more of the same or something better.

Meta critic has a user score of 5.6/10 right now, and the user score is the one I look at.

No. Metacritic is useless when it comes to user score. Trolls are everywhere to spam 0s on any publisher they hate. Any good review should be able to score for each area only (story, gameplay, etc.). The aggregare score tells you nothing.

And I agree on OP except the story. Immediate threat is the oldest trope ever, and shouldn't be used repeatedly.

You know when DA:O came out I think I played 21 hours straight it was like I just wanted to see and hear everything but I'm on the forums reading and posting instead of playing DAI when I should be buried in the game.

Something's amiss here BW hehe

This is partially true. It's not the Greatest Political Storytelling, but It still is good.

Yep, overused and tiring. I like DA:I story. With that getting a point that puts at a 4/5 using OP's Scale. and 8/10 or 80/100 for other scales (so the reviews are mostly accurate)

Exodusangel1 Your review of the game has been one of the better ones I have read for this game so far for the pc. I loved DAO and the expansion and add ons. Because of all the bad reviews with DAO2 I didn't even give it a chance. I was hoping DAI would be as great as DAO, and all the first reviews before the game was released led me to believe it was going to be. Now that I own, and have played DAI I have read lots of reviews looking to see if I was the only one who was having issues with the game, and not being happy with the pc version. I have had a handful of issues since installing. It took 4hrs to load the 4 disks, because of having to be connected online. It wont run without being connected on line. The deluxe content had to be downloaded despite having deluxe disks. I had issues with freezing and crashing even with new drivers. I then found ones made for DAI on the AMD website. Running on all the lowest settings, and with the new AMD driver fixed the lag time, freezing and crashing. Using the keyboard and mouse to play bites. Would a pc gaming keypad work any better, or would it not be supported? Because the keyboard and mouse gameplay really sucked I switched to using a non Microsoft 14 button gamepad. Doing this caused my player to be frozen in one spot, and left me with no other functions. It would not even let me close the game, or revert back to the keyboard and mouse. I had to uninstall my gamepad to get the mouse and keyboard to work again. So I went out and spent another 60. to buy a Xbox 360 pc wireless controller to see if the gameplay would be any better. It played a lot better with the Xbox controller, but with it I can't search for items, or talk to anyone unless it is automated. Is there a trick to searching, and picking up items with a wireless Xbox 360 gamepad? There is no button assigned for this control in the manual. Is this another glitch that has not been fixed? This game was defiantly designed for console players, and not the pc crowd. There is nothing wrong with console games, but if I wanted to play a console game I would of bought it for the console. The only positive thing I have to say about the game, so far is that the graphics are good, but what good are cool graphics if gameplay sucks. I really want to like this game, but it's so hard with all the problems I have had, and the money I have spent to not be able to enjoy the game.

My short opinion on the game:

The good

+ Good story and characters

  • Especially Dorian is a great character.

+ Great exploration

  • Many optional areas with lots of things to do.

+ Graphics

  • I play on high to ultra at 60fps and it looks great.

+ Voice acting

+ Great music and sound effects

The bad

- Worst combat in the series

  • 8 ability limit
  • no auto-attack
  • gameplay changes between action and tac cam (buttons swap, no right click movement in action cam, etc.)
  • Increasing difficulty just means you have to return to camp more often

- Terrible menu interfaces for mouse and keyboard users

  • Menu elements are way too big. All skill trees should fit on one screen and zoom upon being clicked (like DA2). The menu as it is works fine on a controller, but it should definitely not look the same when using mouse and keyboard.
  • Equiping armor and weapons happens on different screens. Armor screen has tabs with light, medium and heavy armor, while weapon screen has tabs with two handed, staves, etc. Instead, weapons and armor could be on the same screen with two rows of tabs, with the second changing based upon your selection tab 1. Much more convenient.
  • Selling items with a mouse is annoying because the game auto-highlights an item when selling the previous one, and then doesn't even update the stats on the right. It still shows the stats of the item you just showed until you move the mouse over the item that's already highlighted.
  • Mouse wheel scrolling through items affects which item is highlighted. Only hovering and clicking should do this.

-

Spoiler

The positive outweighs the negative, though, and this is one of the greatest games I've played in years.

Not really, they are compensated by the drones who give it 10/10 just because BW made it. But I would have thought by this time MC would have included other statisitics to compensate for both of these.
