Tbx, help me understand. You are saying rubberbanding & lag are all related to bad hosts? Bear on mind, I get the exact same experience when I host. I also don't experience this in me3.

Can you explain why a company would use p2p if 85% (maybe even 99%) of hosts create so much lag?

I think you mentioned everything is smooth for you with limited or no bugs but that isn't typical.

 

'Typical' is ultimately determined by your personal experience.

I haven't experienced any game breaking bugs on SP or MP, other than the key glitch which I get only occasionally.

 

After having played DAI SP & MP for more hours than I wish to admit, rubber banding is rare at best.

 

Most disturbing is your comment that you rubber band when you are hosting, which makes no sense.

Are you on PC?

It's because the player hosting has a lousy connection and should not be hosting. EA needs to use dedicated servers for this, but they don't.

 

At least this time around (unlike ME3MP), we can abandon ship and still get paid for what we did contribute. But I wish we could enable an option to avoid high-ping hosts.

I've noticed from day1 that this game has terrible netcode comparing to ME3MP. I have a few friends who live in another continent but we can play together with little to no lag in ME3, but in DAI it's almost unplayable.

Maybe it's related to the buggy FB3 engine, but I don't experience much problem like this in PvZ:GW, which is also a P2P-based multiplayer game powered by the same engine.

rubberbanding is also an issue on ps4.  we cant manipulate out software, tweak config files etc.  One flakey host and the whole event is a write off.  Quit and requeue is standard practice.

most of time I don't actually notice the gentle rubberbanding until I think I've easily dodged the bosses. and at that point you don't want to lose all the xp by quitting out.

 

 

has gotten to the point where I currently do a network test at the start of every session just to make sure such things aren't on my end.

 

 

I know it's not quite bioware's fault here (on console at least, but maybe they can be blamed for bad matchmaking) but a simple little thing like a ping level indicator and/or a server browser would solve a lot of the issues.

 

lack of a server browser especially seems silly. perilous would be a lot easier to get a pug going with it.

It's horrible, almost laughable, the rubberbanding. I'm just shocked that Bioware would have such a buggy multiplayer experience like this. I played Everquest 1 in the late 1990's on a crappy pc with 56k connection and didn't have the rubberbanding/crashing to desktop/freezing that i've had with DA:MP. Played Phantasy Star Online on the old Dreamcast console with 56k almost 15 years ago and it was much more stable than this game. It's just...sad or something. I have a good (not top of the line) gaming pc, and cable internet connection.

 

I'm considering making a video for youtube of just how awful the whole experience is. People need to see it. It's atrocious, seriously.

It's not really a problem with hosts but the matchmaking, Searching for 'best session' and you got put into a laggy match? No :/

I'd like to see the criteria for matchmaking... and then I'd like to see latency as a factor.  In fact, how about displaying a players connection quality?

What does BF 4 have to do with anything? Its up to each dedicated server to run its own mod tools. If you care to now , I play Bf 4 like 2 hours daily without much problems.

 

some servers allow players from anywhere in the world, (Bad, usually laggy with more oversea players)

some servers auto kick players above 100ms ping   (Better )

some servers enforce regional + max ping + active admins + they indicate if its NA east or west coast (Best)

 

As for DAMP, buy a mic ask others if they are lagging as well, if every agrees than just vote kick the host out of the game. DAMP should have a Tool that test your upload bandwidth , if you don't meet the min , it should not allow you to host public games.

 

Hosting a game is all about upload speed. Something maybe not everyone is aware but usually  internet provider caps the upload speed but offer great download speed. If that is the case than hosting is not for you.

Same engine, some of the same issues even though this is p2p.  If you didn't play BF4 from the beginning then you have no idea how bad it was.  My point was that none of the lessons learned about the engine were likley taken forward into DAI, as there are similar problems.

 

I also brought up BF4 as even tho  it's server based, there ARE serious issues with players joining from out of reigion (no region lock), or with poor connections.  The community called for region locks and ping stats for players to be posted/considered in joining a server (or host in this case).

 

So few players on dailup bother to use a mic it seems... asking isn't really practical.  What would be practical, is a menu system where by you could stipulate the max latency acceptible for selecting a lobby host.

 

Y'know what, yer right, not relevent at all, just go back to whatever it was you were doing....
