For people who are at least 20+ hours into DA:I, what's your story-impression without spoilers?

Title ^

Are we talking the typical Bioware plot formula, does DA:I think outside the box that has been used over and over until ME2, DA2 and ME3; is it for the better or for worse?

In an RPG where the story is so excellent that it captivates you and becomes your main motivation to keep playing it gameplay becomes sort of irrelevant to me even if it's super great and is fun in itself.

But imagine you took away most of the gameplay. Would the story in this game still be worth pursuing based on what your impression is so far?

the central story?

I'll admit its fairly basic

However... i did like that one of the choices you make.. does seem to be a very heavy choice... and has precautions.

I'm on 22 hours (will admit have spent alot of time doing side content) and nothing so far that makes me go.. godammit this is a great story

30+ hours here and yes, I've been invested in the story. There's a particular part of the plot that threw me completely for a loop. My friend and I have pretty much been playing together while in a Skype call and we're both really immersed to the point where we're almost constantly shushing each other during cutscenes.

I think there are sections that do think outside of the box, yes. It still sticks to the typical idea of there being a "big bad" that needs to be dealt with, but the ride is still enjoyable.

Precautions, or repercussions?

Yeah okay, sounds like what I'm expecting. I'm getting the PS4 version tomorrow so I wanna lock down my expectations into something realistic lol.

I don't actually know what the common perception of KotOR's plot is nowadays, but would people who played that say that DA:I compares storywise so far?

Personally I think Origins was epic and grand but more than half of the actual places you go to, to prepare for the blight war were god-damn boring. Orzammar in particular stood out as a long in the tooth drawn out bore, and I can't give much kudos to DA2 either other than having some fairly good character moments here and there.

I think if I were to list my tastes in Bioware games overall story-wise it would be.

Like:

- KotOR

- ME1

- ME2

- DA:O

Dislike:

- DA2

- ME3

You think DA:I fits in on my dislike or my like?

I'd say the plot is good enough. Just be prepared for an entirely reworked game system that, while familiar to other Bioware games, is different.

I'm stuck in the Hinterlands for the moment doing sidequests, because the game's still downloading, but from the scraps and bits of plot I've accessed personally, and seen otherwise?

It's got a few choice moments.

15 hours, maybe more. I didn't check. Spent all night playing, couldn't let it go except for thirty minutes for my morning walk.

Main plot hasn't done much, admittedly, in the time I spent playing. I feel like I've barely scathed the surface.

It's going to pick up, I know it. I love pacing like this, honestly.

It feels much more real, like everything isn't happening at once for the "'SPLOSIONS" people.

I just got done with a 15 hour+ session and I'm hungry for more.

The first act is pretty standard fantasy fare, then **** gets bananas.

Not as confusing and as in DA 2. At least now there's a clear, looming threat and a clear goal.

update as to my first post

Seems like things have picked up a pace and shifted gear

What is going to be the difference to this being a good story, and this being a hot damm i'm in love story is how good/deep the big bad is going to be

From reviews i've read unfortunately it seems he is fairly shallow

Few surprises so far, but everything so well crafted I still love it.

Also, Cassandra's surprisingly adorable.

If some of you have played long enough, were there situations like in ME3 and DA2, where you have a two very different choices and no matter what you do, result is the same?

It starts off a bit slow in the Hinterlands. Then the first story mission is good and it's a choice between two quests so you get replay value.

However, the game well and truly takes off during and after the second major story mission. The main plot is nothing ground-breaking, but it's very well presented if you ask me. And most of the characters are excellent.

I have 30 hours into the game but most of that is doing sidequests and completing areas. Honestly, the game feels a lot like TOR (yes, the mmo). The areas feel like planets. And while the main story is there, it seems to be just another generic "bad guy wants to take over the world" type thing. I'm not saying the games bad, it's really well designed (in my opinion), but you can tell Bioware has learned A LOT working on their mmo.

Also, the controls on PC on horrible. I suggest either buying on console (no mods) or buying a 360 controller.

I'm roughly 8hours in, really like it so far.  Customization helps me get into the story WAY more.  From what I've seen of the plot, this finally feels like a land that's torn apart by a bitter war

I think just from the few videos I've watched that I know I'm not going into Dragon Age Origins 2. It looks kinda like Skyrim meets Dark Souls meets MGS Peace Walker, (too many inspirations to list) but they said from early on that the focus for DA:I was "exploration". I'm okay with that. I never had a problem with the evolution of Dragon Age in the first place. If DA2 had varied environments and a great story it would've been a lot better than DA:O IMO.

Considering how hard ToR flopped I dont think it was a smart idea to bring ToR feel into DAI
