Do you like DAI's change in healing mechanics?

Even though I understand what they tried to achieve with this (allowing players to create more variations in group),

I personally hate it. New system significantly dumbed down tactical depth and forcing you to port into camps all the time if you playing on harder difficulty. I loved managing who gets the heals, how much mana I spend, when to use mana potions, etc.

But Ive seen posts where some people say they actually enjoy the change.

So question is: Do you personally like it? And what difficulty are you playing on?

Only time I found it grating is when I wandered into a section with over-leveled enemies. It's kind of a cheap way to get an entire-party kill.

I play on Hard. and I find it Fair.

It gives a sense of the toll adventuring takes on your characters, and you and your party arent Super Heroes, and they need to rest once n a while.

a nice air on the side of humanity to it.  I like it.

Playing on Hard, and I love it. Origins was trivialized by the overpowered healing on anything but the hardest fights, even on Nightmare.

I don't think it's dumbing down, quite the contrary. You can't just charge in the fray and have the designated healbot fix everyone up to correct your mistakes. You need to have your Warriors accumulate Guard, put Barriers on the party, ensure Rogues use their stealth to get into position to unleash their damage, use CC, there's lots of ways to avoid damage. The game is much less of a faceroll than Origins was, I applaud Bioware for taking a risk here.

Playing on Hard too. For the moment I like the absence of healing spells.

I'd say lack of healing allows for a greater array of tactical depth.

Avatars should regen health naturally.  (removed all my ranting from this post)

I will echo what others have said.  I play on hard as well and you can run through potions real quick if you just charge in.  And yes you have to travel back and forth, but I like the fact that one cannot faceroll everything without going back for supplies.

Avatars should regen health naturally.   dislike this game TBH and am trying to not to be mean, but I am just very disappointed about darn near everything.  i dislike the looks and the walks of the avatars. I dislike the way they do not regenerate health.  absolutely hate the useless Keyboard and mouse, and combat with this system is impossible to enjoy when the tac camera is funky and the controls are so much of a NON User friendly for PC. I am NOT switching to consoles so dont suggest that.  Point to click and collecting the loot and if I have to craft, why is the UI for my inventory such a pain?

Really, why bother bringing all of that into a thread about healing? I take it you won't be posting in DA:I boards anymore considering you are dissapointed with all aspects of the game,

Ah so if I understand correctly, there's no regen?

Oh oh oh, my Baldur's Gate memories are coming up. And they are good, good memories.

Currently I'm debating staying up to play the game at midnight (I'm European, that's when it's released), or just going to bed early and waste the day of tomorrow on DA:I.

Decisions, decisions. Had I checked earlier the game was gonna be released on midnight, I would've stockpiled on drugs :P

I've not gotten far enough in to really assess it but I do like that the system seems to be more about balanced upgrades to healing rather than constant buying/making of dozens and dozens of health potions.

I do think it's completely fruitless to try to prevent people from spamming healing though.  If healing is tied to rest than people will just leave areas over and over to go rest over and over/reloading whenever a random encounter pops up.  I used to do this in the Infinity Engine games.  If your health regens over time than people will just stand there until they heal.  If there's limited potions, people will just fast travel back to town over and over to get more. The only way to prevent healing spam is to prevent healing altogether, which is pretty much an untenable option in any RPG I've ever played.

(I will also say that players *needing* to spam health is often a sign of a game being balanced poorly.  Elder Scrolls Oblivion I'm looking at you).

I play the game on nightmare.
Currently have two playthroughs going. One Mage, One Warrior.

On my warrior playthrough, I don't find I care about the lack of healing. I'm designed to tank, and I do it well so I don't find myself needing too many potions.
On my Mage playthrough, things are a bit rougher since I'm quite squishy and don't have a specialization yet, so I find I go through more potions faster, but if I pop into Tac Cam and make my party nuke any ranged enemies quickly, then fights aren't too bad

I'm doing my first play through on hard, and I think this new system is worlds better than the one the previous games used.  Not just the "removal" of healing, but the lack of health regen between fights too.  It's one of the better changes made to the game, imo.

I don't so much mind the lack of healing in combat, the only time its annoying is after combat when i basically have to run back to camp to heal after a couple fights....it seems like a chore at that point

I play on Nightmare and I have yet to craft Regen. potions - yes, when I feel lazy - my hurt team runs around with low health and I just Revive anyone that falls (with the spell).

It doesn't bother me at all.

Anything that would wipe my party - would probably kill my fully healed party anyway.

I'm neither here nor there regarding the lack of healing in the game. I like playing as a healer, but using Barrier (which is actually quite effective) and defensive abilities pretty much allows me to get through many battles unscathed or lightly injured.

I thought the individual health segments were supposed to regen out of combat.

It's a bunch of popping pots if anyone gets low then when you're low on potions, teleporting back to the camp. I miss being the healer and feeling like I kept my party alive, but now it's some random alchemist who makes health pots. Depressing...

I slightly miss having a healer in party but not a big deal so far. I just learned to avoid Bears. Rather fight a Pride demon.

What's funny is i've been running both Cassandra and Blackwall specced with 1 handed/shield..... With 1 mage and me on Rogue

They pretty much gather everything in the area in a nice little ball for me to kill.

Happens to me a lot, and when I realize my inquisition is about to meet the end, I order my team to disengage and run away.

better to live to fight another day  :)

PS: Still think a healer would have been nice.

I've never understood how removing lolhealspam and making you plan out how you're going to attack a group and which potions to carry on which characters is "dumbing down" the game.

Being an avid player of Mass Effect, this isn't really a massive change of pace for me. I don't love it, but I don't hate it. It's just one more thing for me to adjust to, and not by much. I do kind of appreciate being able to see how much damage my Inquisitor takes when venturing out alone and fighting random things. Of course, I encountered a few over-leveled enemies, but I thank the Maker for stealth.
