It's much easier to traverse the slope rather than just plough on straight at it.  This makes it it possible to scale VERY steep cliffs, it just takes a little longer.

Yeah, I no longer take the straightest path to a point. I look for the most traversable.

The Mako is meh...

The "assignments" that require you to drive across a frickin' empty planetside to get to the 3 points of interest was boring as fudge though.

Averything was marked on your map too, so no "exploration" feel to it...

I won't cry if it's not in ME2 :-D

I did/do not (replaying) enjoy the mako, or the mako planet exploration. Feels really tedious and not very fun. I also jump out of the mako and try to kill as much on foot as possible because you get like double or more XP. Mako just seems like a curse.

I love the MAKO.....in short doses. The main issue is that for a 28 hour playthrough (which is roughly the length of the game if you do everything), about 14 of those hours are spent DRIVING the MAKO...not fighting in the MAKO, not questing in the MAKO, just DRIVING and getting stuck and trying to go up mountainsides that are impossible to scale simply because the alternative is to drive 4 minutes out of your way to go around the mountain.

I loved the MAKO sections on the main planets...that's what they should have done for the entire game. Some of the worlds were ok, such that there were mountains and junk and all the little goodies were somewhat challenging to get (most of the levels that were supposed to look like earth and had those spores floating around), but for every one of those, you'd have a planet that would make you say, "F%$* this S$*#, I hate the MAKO!"

Not only that, but the placement of buildings and installations on some of those planets made me wonder just how the occupants managed to get around. Not only are there no roads for easy access to those facilities, but there are also no garages or bays for ships to dock at. They were probably designed to be difficult for the player, but... there's no practicality when viewing it from the occupants' perspective.

Like PaladinXR there are times when I really enjoyed driving the MAKO.

I sometimes would challenge myself to see if could launch the MAKO off a lift and land without sending it bouncing all over the place either with use of the thrusters or lack of (so it landed on level with the way the terrain was angled) or even just to see how far could get it to go still airborne with intermittent thrust control.

There were times when it was a bit dull driving just for the sake of it too though, so part of me is glad to see it isn't returning, though I hope the Hammerhead has some fun areas to mess around in.

I am dreading the second play throughs to get my toons to 60. I never replay the same character so I finally realized that that was the only way to get to 60 this weekend after finishing yet another playthrough this weekend at lvl54.

ARRGGGGHHH, Looks like I'm skipping Chuck and Heroes tonight in order to clear as much as humanly possible.

Might just have to import a non-60 for my first ME2 play through.

The mako was a piece of trash that shouldn't of been in the game.

I mean honestly I always dreaded the driving missions in Mass Effect because the controls were so goofy.

I felt like the controls were barely tolerable but the aiming of the gun was even wose than the controls of the vehicle were.

The PC version would have been alot better purchase than the Xbox360 version for that reason alone.

The Mako itself is grand, planets such as Virmire are rather nice with the thing.

It's the Uncharted worlds that make it suck. Most of them have like 89 degree slope cliffs. It's ridiculous. *has nightmares about Nodacrux*:crying:

It wasn't explained how to get out of the Mako in game... I was stuck in it for at least 30 min's (Reload my game 2-3 times) trying to decide how to get out.... twas a sad day.

I don't hate the Mako. I hated the terrain sometimes, especially the mountains.

I think the way they designed the terrain was more of an issue then the Makko.

I agree that it was the terrain design that made the Mako experience an unenjoyable one.

For PC, the 'key' for exiting the Mako was misprinted in the instruction manual, so I spent quite a bit of time driving around in it and pressing 'E' to try and exit when the correct key was 'Q'.

The one biggest change from console to PC was the mako driving. Bioware games were pretty much born to be on PC.

The driving is a lot easier.

Yeah, the Mako itself wasn't too bad on PC (at least in the sense of telling it which way to go), it was the terrain that got silly. Too many ridges that suddenly sent you skyward at random (not to mention spinning you so you had to spend forever turning back the way you wanted to go) in addition to steep mountains that would do Everest proud. The jets were useless outside of combat dodging since usually if you wanted to use them you were on a slope that would send you backwards away from it if you hit the jets. Actual combat in the Mako was pretty fun except with threshers (where it was either too hard or boring depending on whether you knew the trick to stand still and hop over acid or not); only irritation there was the shields took WAY too long to regenerate. I tended to take bathroom breaks post-heavy battles to get up to full again. Dunno if the Mako replacement will involve vehicular combat though; I'd miss it, but it would surprise me if we're supposed to use heavy weapons on foot instead. Too bad, parking on a armature then hopping out to shoot it as it flopped underneath never got old.

Hopping out and shooting things on my Soldier was much easier than fighting in the Mako, especially on Insanity.

The Mako couldn't aim for anything and it took so much damage so fast, it was simpler to spam Immunity and AR everything to death.

Just finished my second play through of ME1 yesterday and...god how I hated the Mako, actually i hated whoever made the maps for the environments even more. Every world had tons of mountains, mountains that made Mt. Everest look like crap, I was really really tired of almost getting up a mountain and then tumbling down.

Fighting in the Mako was rather enjoyable. Driving around in the damn thing, especially on some uncharted worlds (Nodacrux, I'm looking at you!) was a nightmare. I've learned the nuances of handling the vehicle and how to climb otherwise impossible cliffs by driving up at an angle instead of straight up, but it just feels incredibly slow and awkward.

Just like in the real world.  Why would anyone ever not do that?

I loved driving the Mako.  It was my favourite part of ME.

I didn't mind the Mako on it's own, but coupled with the UNC: Collection missions it was pretty unbearable. All in all, it's definitely one feature that I'm not too upset about being cut from the sequel.

It was cut? I didn't know that.
Then is traveling to different planets cut aswell? I kinda liked tht feature. Kind of time consuming and boring at times but it really gave you the sense of exploring new planets and it was fun to jump around in the mako.

I thought it was fun . . . until you had to drive diagonal up a mountain at a painfully slow pace, including the risk of traveling backwards, just to get somewhere obscure.

It's always fun imagining the squadmates silently cursing Shepard for his terrible driving skills, lol.
