On the xbox it was clunky as hell and you could only move correctly if you had the gun pointed forward along the chassis at all times. It wasn't hard, if the movement controls were more refined it would have been a lot better.

Driving the Mako nearly forced me to quit playing. It was difficult getting used to fighting, dodging, jumping, etc. A real pain in the a**!

With Enough Training, you get the hang of it, i just hated the way you touch a little part of the DEATH places on the map and mako just blew up...

ditto and ditto. Its not the actual driving that is hard to master , It is how little damage it can take. AND you always seem to be dropping from orbit stuck to fight in what is a glorified tinplated usless heap of junk. One hit wonder. what a faux pas this is. I have reached level 40, and I have died 400 times without exaggerating and 375 of them is  fried alive in the Mako! Image IPB, Ruined this game for me , all that spiify armour and upgrades , all the weapons and upgrades and what do they do force you to fight inside a underarmored vehicle for what percentage of the game , Too effin much,
I am looking at a cheat to uograde it aarmor and damage done I don't care, Easy my sainted aunt.
Being wiped out like this takes the enjoyment totally away , I said itb efore and I will say it again, never has a game cause me so much angst and all of stems from this useless in a fight heap of dung

You must really be horrible because I died a total of twice in the mako through all playthroughs and one of them was me leaning on the keyboard and driving off a cliff.

I really liked the Mako, it was awesome. However, if you played ME on XBox then apparently the controls were craptastic, which would completely ruin it of course.

I love Mass Effect and everything that it is, except the Mako.

On one of my playthroughs of the game I seriously didn't use it unless completey necessary...that way I could enjoy the beauty of the graphics and not bounce around like a car at the drive-ins ;)

The Mako was pretty much uncontrollable, but it grew on me, I guess. I had so much fun with it, tumbling it down cliffs, trying to turn it upside down, violating the laws of physics...hard to believe it's gone now :P

I had a love/hate relationship with it. On the one hand I did like to explore worlds, but yeah, it did tend to get out of control a lot. Mountains were pretty much impossible. I was always falling down them or doing somersaults in the air with it. It was just frustrating a lot to drive. When I play ME2 though, no matter how much it annoyed me at times, I'm sure I will miss it. A little bit anyway. Haha.

I would not have been so bad if the steering was so awful. Waiting for shields to regenerate as I continually get blasted because I cannot steer to get a good lock on the target. Stupid time sink to extend game play. I will not replay the game again because of this.

i hate the mako not so much, but more i hate the landscape on some planets, and the locations of the minerals, it is so stupid, to climb a hill with that slow piece of crap, and it is impossible to get back out later, on some spots. way too bumpy and slow, they should release a patch or DLC for mako upgrades for me 1, many still play this game, or just start to play it, as it ties up with the new game. REQUESTING NEW dlc for me 1, or did they close the 1 game down and only support me 2?!!

lol!! Yeah I actually thought the Mako and having to drive was really neat, I'll miss it in ME2, then again I may not even notice the difference, it's just you don't get to drive in most story based RPGs.

Don't really understand the hate towards the poor Mako!! :kissing:

Although I love the MAKO, it has a flaw for me: It stays always the same, from start to end. If they'd given us the option to find upgrades for it, the entire MAKO-discussion would be different, I suppose.

Anyways, I will miss it in ME2. I hope, there will be a worthwhile compensation for it.

I don't see how anyone could even like the Mako in the first game.  If you came within 10 feet of a bolder you would clip it and do a series of spins and get stuck.

Intelwolves :

"Spg, did you use the main cannon or just the heavy Machine Gun?"

Yep. I used the main cannon. It sucks.

I think I was driving a different vehicle, b/c I loved the Mako. I wish I had that kinda ATV. Given, in the beginning, I died a few times, but once I got used to the controlls, it was lovely. Jumping over the rockets and running over Geth was the best part of the game!!

whoever designed the really mountainous planets deserves a special level of hell. Most of the planets are okay, the flatter ones can even be fun, but when you fall into a valley with walls too steep to get out of about 2 or 3 times on a single planet...

Generally, I thought the Mako was OK...unless you were on one of those planets that seemed to be composed only of razor sharp ridges...and then it was just torture!!! Oh...torture....
A very vulnerable vehicle though... soon learned that it was better to kill things outside the Mako rather than inside...although then you had to make sure you parked your Mako in a place where it wouldn't accumulate damage! I know on a couple of occasions I had killed the foes then jumped back into the Mako...and promptly died cos the thing was in flames (apparently).
Shucks...that sucked.

The weird thing is I exitted the mako on a Mt, top and went down on foot to retrieve an artifact and I went tound and roud in big circles tryiny to get back up to it!, Now I thought that was ridiculous,

I have been practising alot (you have to really) jumping and timing the jumps to avoid getting atomized. I am getting better but it still very boring, so is the round up on some planets , seem very similiar,

Is it possible to beat one of them Mawler Ground dwellers on foot? I have tried Hard but I wonder if there is a way. I am finding this second start less intimidating except for these critters.

Reminds me of Dune

Ah...that happened to me one time! I got out of the Mako to survey a mineral or just to have a look or something...and I'd parked the thing too close to a precipice...so down I went, down, down...

I took ages trying to find ways to get back to the Mako but to no avail. I wished it had a remote!

In the end I had to restart...sigh...

other than the poor physics I enjoyed the Mako. After hours & hours of playtime it was a pain in the buttt in mountainous terrain but I just viewed it as a challenge to find a passable route to the wreckage/anomaly whatever and ,after getting used to pc controlls and proper tactics, combat was no problem.

Can someone tell me how to get out of the mother****er? The guide says I can find controls to the gate and other goodines inside the buildings surrounding the gate into the refinery? Also how do you get credits in this game, everything for sale is very expensive and I have next to nothing credits.

Well I basically liked the idea of the mako, but the controls were kind of messed up. The most terrible thing however were the landscapes on the planet, sometimes it takes ages to get to that unsurveyed rare/heavy/light metal spot right beside you because of those hard-to-pass mountains. And climbing them with the Mako is just tedious. And in some levels like on therum, there are some spots that would allow the mako to avoid most of the triggers and go straight to the mine entrance, but since they put invisible collisions there the Mako just flips over instead of driving further, leading to some stuck positions forcing you to reload -.-.

The Mako could've been fun if it's use in the game wasn't so repetetive and mostly tedious.

wyl please. The easiest way to get credits is searching and for rare earths, gas, heavy and light metal and survey it (gets you some 15kish per find). And you may sell the truckloads of useless stuff you get from crates aso. for cash too.

There's 4 buildings in the area you describe, one on each side of the gates. Just search em for a spot where there's a window next to a green door switch and hit it and the gates will open.
