The handling was insane - it felt like it was a toy filled with helium - but I loved it. I think alot of the problem people have with it would be solved if the UCWs had been a little less.. vertical in their design.

I loathed it. Slow, annoying terrain, just a pain and a huge time-dump.

And worst of all, because you only get half-xp for killing enemies with it, I was short 40K by the end of my second playthrough and didn't reach level 60, thus prompting ANOTHER playthrough so I didn't have to use a cheat.

OMFG... DEATH TO MAKO!

I found the Mako easier to control on console actually. I got ME1 on PC before ME2 came out so I could get some saves set up for importing to ME2 and found the Mako much more awkward to control than on my Xbox 360.

Loved the MAKO. It was hilarious to scoot around in, and to drive Geth over with.

This. Running over bad guys in the Mako was almost as much fun as running over pedestrians in Carmageddon.

The mako was good, but it was over used in the game I felt. I can't really say I enjoyed it's role in all the side quests either, very tedious.

I honestly did at first. I tried staying away as much as I could from missions involving the Mako. But eventually I got used to it and now it's one of my favorite things to do in the game, drive around in the Mako!

If i had to choose between the mako and scanning planets i would definetly go for the mako. Although the handling wasn't perfect cruising through the different enviorments while a catchy tune played on the background was a LOT more fun then scanning planets imo.

Agreed!
A little tweeking of the handling on steep terrain was needed, but ME2s scanning requires deletion, nothing is going to make scanning fun!

Its hard to control the MAKO at first, but then you know the controls well enough to dodge incoming fire by jumping, circle strafing, etc.

I tended to jump onto enemies crushing them :D

I hated the planet surfaces..mostly the mountains. The mako on mako-made courses was fun. But trying to go around a bumpy planet on a vehicle that is way too sensitive got old really quick. I like the scanning, but it gets old quick as well.

For the scanning on my second play through, I just stuck to finding as most as i could for most resources. Instead of sending a probe, for even the smallest spike (mistake I made in the first playthrough; so time consuming). I liked the scanning for beacons and things and how it picked up audio though, that was a nice touch.

Didn't hate the mako.

Hated the god-forsaken side missions. Driving from anomaly, to mineral, to debris, to mission was horrible. The missions were almost identical and the surfaces were cookie-cutter.

Don't even get me started on mountains...

It was an awesome idea, but lacked the polish that could have made it really great. I loved the fact that you could find things by actually exploring, but since all the bunkers and ships were exactly the same map EVERY time, it grew old about halfway through.

Never had any control problems with it, though.

It wasn't bad until I had to go over sharp inclines, then it is a pain in the ass

Outside of Artemis Tau and Noveria it felt like a total waste of time for me

I just really hated the fact that you had to scale impossible mountatins far too often.

I kind of missed the Mako in ME2, it certainly added a nice element to the game (many missions centered around it), but I don't miss the irrirating aspect of planet-side exploration.

I hate the terrain on many of the planets and thought the physics around the Mako need quite a bit of work but I loved the Mako itself.  It changed up gameplay and created the feel of a much larger universe.  Hopefully the Hammerhead will address the issues the Mako had and restore that feeling, though I don't think they will be adding Hammerhead into any main story quests like it was in ME1.

why do you need to choose between them? N7 missions replaced mako levels, not mineral scanning. just because an incidental part of mako levels was scanning the occasional mineral dump doesn't translate into planet scanning replacing mako levels at all.

I thought that the Mako was an interesting concept, but suffered from a really lousy controls scheme and was quite possibly weaker than some of the more advanced small arms available. Allowing players to modify the vehicle could have made it a litle more useful, but I'm glad to see it gone in the sequel.

I had fun with the Mako, once you realize that for every steep incline in the way there's a more gradual incline you can use it's not bad, and my only complaint was that forward, left, right, and back were with regards to camera angle not vehicle direction but that's just a personal preference.

was that for the xbox?
PC was dependant on the vehicle itself.

Yeah X Box forward was whatever direction the turret was facing.  Not hard to deal with but still would've preferred the other way.  Now that I think about it anyone know if you can change that in the options?  I'll have to check.

I absolutely loathed the Mako, and sat there wishing that I could just break open my Xbox and scratch out the disc where it concerned anything to do with the Mako. I didn't mind the short Mako runs on missions like Feros, and Noveria, but man; driving around a deserted wasteland for around 5 hours, mining a node here and there, really, literally, bores a man to death.
