Hmm I will check this one up, never came up since I was playing females only
Mind you, she was called "Sir" on many occasions, so it seems the gender problems are far worse overall

Thanks. Actually I've already started the game once again since this bug was really irritating... (facepalm) Now everything is OK and the NPCs are referring to my character as a male. I guess there are still people who had the same issue and are too far in a game to restart it once again though.

Thank you for posting this. Hairstyles and cosmetics aside. I find the game currently unplayable because of how frustrating the camera movement is for PC as well as the tactical view... and the not being able to click to move, and the not being able to auto attack, And the lack of ability to pan the camera by touching the sides of teh screen with the mouse. And not being able to do anything resembling party based tactics with the "**** you, player" attitude the support for mouse and keyboard seems to have adopted. Shouldn't have jumped aboard the hype train. Will be pirating any EA/ Bioware game from this point forward. Fool me once and all that.

.... And the lack of ability to pan the camera by touching the sides of teh screen with the mouse.....

This should have been a core concept of the 'Tac Cam' for PC as it was extremely effective in Origins via the utter simplicity of how you manipulated the camera to do what you want.  They need to put it in DAI.  Absolutely must.

However, based on this post, it seems they have screwed up the camera so much there might not be anything they can do.  Honestly, I think it's clear all the good programmers have left Bioware years ago.  It's just bad design and even worse implementation.

To be honest, I have not bought this game yet. I bought the first Dragon Age.. enjoyed it and then played the second and didnt quite get the level of immersion I was after so stopped playing. A Friend of mine recently bought it and was recommending it to me so I thought Id do some research first.

Ill state now. Im a PC gamer only. I dont own a Console and have no desire to ever get one.

Anyway I did a Search on Dragon Age Inquisition and this thread came up.

I have 0 desire to own a copy of this now.  From what Ive read It feels like a game that was ported from a console to a pc.

I pre-ordered early on, so I missed my refund window.  However, I also refuse to even start the game until it is patched and there is proof the fixes are actually legit.

The concept of playing with a controller is not even an issue... I honestly wouldn't have any idea how to do it if I wanted.

But the main reason I refuse to play the game right now is these controls are obviously ported over from the console version, with clear CONTEMPT for pc players.  I have no desire to play a Dragon Age game as a first person shooter, which is what I consider the current scheme to be, thus I will patiently wait and practice creating characters in the CC until the patch is out.

Ansa, added a link to vb0b0's similar thread

These threads both need to be bumped and updated right now, before the first patch is out.

I have not started playing yet...  but is there anything that fills that void in DAI?  If there is a lack of depth in the area of companions and skills & abilities, does some other part of the game make up for it?  Some other activity that provides a roleplaying experience in another way?

I've seen people saying they are finishing the game in 2-3 days time.  Is there really a lack of overall depth in the way you are describing, was that 150 total hours just a crock of ****?

Well - It really depends:

If you do any and all side-quests (well, if you can call collecting stuff, tagging (claiming) stuff etc. quests -.-), then no, you will not finish in 2-3 days (I am playing since Monday and I don't think I am half-way through yet...I don't know - I haven't seen an indicator showing how much there's left)...the thing is:

I would rather have less tedious things to collect (I want to see as much as possible on the first run - of course excluding the mutually exclusive things like siding with the mages or templars - can't have it both ways it seems) and more good storytelling and narrative - even if it meant (a little) less playtime (!)

I am going to repeat what others have already said:

I would have liked DA:O with new graphics (not that I would not have gotten the game if it used the DA:O-Engine - I am not that much a graphics-****** to leave out an RPG (if it is good - note: DA:I is not really bad, but it's not on the same level as DA:O!) if it looks a little dated!), another story (hell, I quite like the idea of the Inquisition and the chantry being destroyed and people having a crisis of faith etc. - the problem is, that many things that could make this game great are not as good as they should be - like the upgrade system for Skyhold and your Inquisition: You need to collect Materials - reminds me of Mass Effect 2 (the ship upgrades for the Normandy) - instead of doing it with really thought out quest-chains that would give the game more "meat" (it feels like it lacks substance IMHO - like a gnawed bone with only a few tiny scraps of meat still clinging to it)...an example: You want to upgrade your Inquisitions weapons - ATM you need to collect crafting materials and then sign of on a requisition, while IMHO you should need to recruit a smith first (maybe the smith has an issue you have to solve first - like in DA:O the smith in Redcliff who wanted you to save his daughter - before he (or she...a female smith, like Charsi from Diablo 2 would have been nice) wants to sign on and give you the follow up quest(s)...yes there should be some collecting of materials, but only of really important ones IMHO, like dragon bones (stuff that not every merchant would have available - rare things) - I hate having to farm in offline-games...it's no fuckin' MMO -.-) and new and interesting characters (note: yes, a few of the champions are interesting - but many are not...and some should have an opposing viewpoint present (like Vivienne singing the virtues of the circles - there should be another mage there that has been abused for example and really hates the circle and the chantry (note: Doriane does not count, he is from Tevinter and thus a really free mage...though he agrees that mages should not be locked up :) )), I mean there's no really good banter because the characters agree with each other too much IMHO (note: that's something DA:O and even DA2 did well - Morrigan and Alistair for example or Fenris (Mage hate) and Anders (mage love to the point of corrupting a spirit and becoming a terrorist!) or Isabela (love of sex, loves being sassy) and Aveline (very pious, conservative etc.))...they don't tend to dissagree -.- which makes them seem bland in comparison to the other two batches of DA-Characters we have had :(

Note: DA:I is not a bad game, but it suffers from too much ambition (re-inventing the wheel - again) and not covering its bases (things DA:O - and even DA2 - did well), things we do expect from Bioware (maybe they can't do it anymore? - I mean DA:O, ME1 and 2 and KOTOR were (are!) great games, but since then it's only got worse, not better (one would think that with all those new tools the writers would be able to tell better stories - but apparently it was the lack of tools that forced you to tell great stories in order to get the player hooked!)

greetings LAX

ps: I am still compiling a list of things that went either wrong or could have been done way better (or had been done better in the past or didn't need fixing) - If I do start another run (note: not finished with my current one, but I am frustrated ATM so I am taking a break - more so as the game nearly ruined my savegame (I lost 6 hours of playtime - luckily I had a backup at all...made that in case Origin might decide to delete the game because I was using a VPN to play early) I will play with a laptop next to my desktop (to note things I see that I don't like...will be long list I think ^^)

The points why I liked your post.

especially (4) because that is something that I really really miss from DA2 - which I loved except for the flaw of re-using maps - among many other things I find have degraded in comparison.

The character freedom due to amount of skills and differing skilltrees from companion to companion made it a ton of fun and made it possible to create great combos of characters together, if DA2 had these graphics and had used more maps I think I would just drool on my first playthrough....

This game isn't bad if you forget DA:O(Which I never played for long enough to get even half way)/DA2 but in comparison to DA2 this game is a downgrade in so many ways.(But also an upgrade in others, they just don't exactly make up for what/how much they worsen)

STOP!

That's exactly what I didn't like (and still don't - there's no way to specialise your companions as far as I have seen, they come with pre-set specialisations, which is kind of bad...for example: the best Tank IMHO is Blackwall, as he can hold choke-points the best...I would love to have one specialisation set again (as long as it's not as useless as shapeshifting in DA:O was - sorry Morrigan :( ) - even more if it makes sense from a story-telling point of view, like Alistair being a Templar (he was recruited into the wardens from the order after all) or Leliana being a bard etc. - but with a secondary specialisation you had at least some more influence on the characters...):

You had to bring certain characters to have the most effective party - in DA:O you had to have Alistair as he was the best Tank available and in DA2 you had to bring Anders as he was the best Healer - and that sucked big time (you could play without that, but it made fights etc. harder - particularly really nasty ones like that high dragon (!) in DA2....)

greetings LAX

Dark thoughts, but it seems more and more true with every Bioware release lately

Oh well, hopefully Bethesday still up to snuff and will deliver something worthwhile to call an CRPG and not a digital comic book with stiff controls

Man, wait for the promised patch from developers and check the feedback again, maybe something will change for the best, who knows *shrugs*

As right now, I definitely DO NOT recommend buying it (I cannot refund because I pre-ordered few months ago), you will just pull your hair in frustration

I was playing today and I noticed that my companions were not using their abilities. I checked the behaviors and adjusted them but they would still not use an ability. Upon walking in and out of a cave the started using their abilities again.  I think this glitch happened around the time Haven got attacked. By the way I am playing on PS4. I am enjoying the game so far so keep up the good work.

Ansa, in the post I made on the 2nd page of the thread I linked above where I gave him a link to this, I added a few additional items that weren't on both his and your lists.  If you want you can add them here.

Like I said, the more we keep all this stuff together the better.

.... Until we get the news that the first patch fixes 2 random foreign languages and a meaningless dialogue tweak.

No way! - It should not be an Action-RPG in the first place -.- (that's probably not the direction most of the fans want to go!)

greetings LAX

If they want to collect the two experiencies in a single game I think that's an important feature, Otherwise action-rpg style is only an excuse to the gameplay lacks. Personally I prefer DA:O style but I understand that other players (and I think they are the majority) like action games, so we have to adapt but this not means to accept some over-simplified mechanics. I mean if they intended to give all the players the best possible experince they could have insert complex mechanics that could also be not used by everyone. Just an example the DAII tactical behaviour system is good but you can also play without set it in depth.

P.S. I'm a fan but still I think that marketing is more important than us so we have to accept some aspects we don't like also, but when there is the possibility they could satisfy all, they should.

Thanks for the comment I explained better my point of view!

I do not doubt that people finished it in 2-3 days, if they rush for the ending and don't give 1 crap about exploring and reading the stories and doing all quests etc.

I am currently 43 hours in with my (fe)male warogue* and am barely into act 2 I think, I have completely scouted every map I have played on and done all quests that I can on those maps. 150 hours is something I'll gladly believe if you play it my way, but rushing and expecting a long game? forget it.

* Gender issue, yeey! male warrior with (female) rogue specializations, so basically I am fucked now because I have to wait for a patch that fixes it that we are getting 0 info on for when the patch comes or what it will include...

It's true that DA2's system meant you kinda had to bring certain characters to have the best mix, but those were at least choices. I don't see any reason now to take Solan over Vivienne because Vivienne has 1 more ability point than Solan. In DA2 I at least had to think "Do I want a mage for damage or a healer" and then specced that way. Right now there are so few skills that all my characters follow the same upgrade path because they are all exactly the same(Except for specializations I suppose) and have nothing new to offer.

At least in DA2 getting a new character meant new skills or a different set of skills. And the skills in DA2 were far better as well, more AoE on mages, party buffs etc.

I really miss that diversity that DA2 had, not to mention a far better UI in basically every way(PC player here) and better AI, both in their behavior and the ability to customize their behavior.

Just talking about DA2 > DAI makes me kind of mad because I am seeing more and more flaws when comparing them, but taking DAI as its own game it isn't that bad.

I have to agree about the hair. Seriously just because Hipster is sweeping the world with their "Indy" vibe, doesn't mean I want to have 18/20 Hairstyles be hipster....also one of the dumbest things ever is making the hair unisex....seriously it's not hard to make hair for both genders.....if you have to hire Pineappletree or Coolsims, they had better hairs out on the modsites within 2 days of a games release. And they were still better looking.

*Edit*: Also, companion specs.

This is how it should have been.

Cassandra: Seeker, not Templar

Blackwall: Grey Warden, not Champion

Solus: Keeper/Dreamer not Rift Mage

How could you possibly pass up a chance to make companions unique?

I play on console, not PC, but the lack of tactics is making me really question whether to get this game.  I loved DA:O, couldn't get through DA:2 and was psyched by what I was hearing about DA:I, but the lack of decent party tactics - one of the best parts of the game design mechanically, IMO - may be a killer for me.

I don't think a lot of these issues are consoles v. PC.  I think everyone wants good game controls.  If they aren't there for PC, they should be.  If they aren't there for consoles, they should be.  Something like tactics should be there for everyone.  Bad AI makes companions a huge pain.  It's one thing to get it in Skyrim, but there you don't have to have companions.  DA is designed to be played with companions.  Dumbing down how to control them makes no sense and I think would suck a lot of the enjoyment out of the game (which is why I can't decide whether to buy it or not).

I would buy it, even though it's got some problems(currently I'm not having any except for not being able to load a world state now). The story is great, the exploration is great and aside from the controls and the lack of auto-attack so far it's really good, I've got over 35 hours on my mage and like 6-8 hours on my warrior and rogue. The combat issues don't bug me as much as the hair, the manly female walk/body.

Yea, I think if there's still no patch after today's over, things will start to get a little hairy in here.

And Oh Man, if that patch description comes out with only like 5-10 minor fixes and none of the major line items that are on almost every post in here...  Things will get rough.

Bump this thread!  Keep it up top

I played the game on PC using keyboard and mouse for an hour or two last night and i have to agree with op.
The game is not playable with the keyboard and mouse layout the way it is so we need this fixed ASAP.
Combat gets a two out of ten at the moment as the gameplay is terrible.
The rest of the game looks good and runs fine without problems on my computer so far but i have only played a little.

PLEASE fix the keyboard mouse layout ASAP. We need to be able to move our character in the direction of the mouse without holding the right mouse button down. We also need to be able to attack opponents by clicking on an enemy.

FIX ASAP.
