It's so obvious with the amount of neglect to the vast number of problems with the PC version that Bioware has simply abandoned the audience that made it successful to begin with.

Sad. I had more hope for you Bioware, but you gave up on your most loyal of fans.

I use a PC and tweaked some settings. I have no problems with it.  Its called being patient. It takes some getting used and a few tweaks but it works.

I am very patient. I waited many months for the game to release. lol  But what you are asking is not for patience, but for risk. There is a risk that they may never address the controls or not fix them enough for me personally, which, I have stated previously, would tarnish my entire experience. So I am not willing to risk my money on them possibly improving the controls, especially when nothing has been said about doing so. But I am super glad you were able to find a way to enjoy it! It is just too big a problem, IMO, for me to risk $70 on.

Sad, I use to love Bioware.  They were my #1 gaming developer but not so sure about that anymore.  Its nothing personal to the members of the staff but I will be cautious before purchasing another Bioware game blindly... next time no pre order, I will wait for reviews and patches or sales.

I couldn't agree more :(

Games like Mass Effect 1 & 2, or Dragon 1 and 2 put Bioware at the top of the list for me.  If they were making a game, I was pre-ordering it.

After ME3 I should have been more cautious.

And now this...I think I can safely say I will not be pre-ordering anymore games, and probably won't purchase them until the price drops, even if it's a year or two after release.

I totally agree. This will be the last Bioware game I will EVER purchase at full price. I paid for every single Bioware game up until this day at full price on the first day. Never had problems. Then Mass Effect 3 came out and it was an utter disgrace to the series. Now Dragon Age Inquisition comes out and it's LITERALLY unplayable. It wouldn't be so bad if the studio would acknowledge that there is a problem and would give me some assurance that it's going to get fixed. Thus far, I feel like the sixty dollars I paid is for a piece of broken plastic that may well never get fixed.

Never again. Next Bioware game I am waiting for when it drops down to like 10 dollars years down the line. Bioware has lost my trust.

You can't rebind mouse buttons.  Or bind side keys and such on a mouse with more than 3 buttons.  And a lot of the control problems aren't things that might be fixed by key rebinding.

And rebinding won't solve things like the clunky looting and no autoattack (bearable for a mage or archer) but the constant hoooooooooooooolddownkey or taptaptaptaptap for melee is RSI-inducing. Within an hour both of my hands hurt so much I had to stop playing at all.

I don't play games a lot anymore.  Basically Blizzard games, with Civilization and Dragon age being my only purchases for the year.  Firaxis patched their new Civilization game a few days after launch, and broke the multiplayer.  It's remained broken for the last month and a half.  Between that, and this mess, I'm all loyaltied out.  Releasing a PC game with non-functional keyboard and mouse controls just isn't OK.

You're right it isn't. I'm not going to deprive myself of the game simply because the controls are bad, especially when the rest of the game is great.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for all the feedback.  I just want to give a heads up to a post that Mark just made regarding PC controls here:

http://forum.bioware...unity-concerns/

Allan, what are the chances that Mark will respond to posts or questions in that particular thread?

I just want to be able to get some official word of whether that "statement" is nothing more than that, a statement, or there will be further interaction in thread that can actually lead to something.  Thanks.

I may try a controller just because my hand is hurting. Moving and fighting (swinging at air a lot, lol) seems to be causing some undo pain. It feels like I'm slogging through mud. I have tweaked the mouse and other settings as best I can. One thing DA2 had right was that quick, auto-combat. I would lock the closest enemy, watch my attack abilities (and cool downs) along with the health of the others. I would pause if needed. Fast, responsive... hopefully DAI will be tweaked in that regard... I'm not holding my breath.

^ Hopefully Darrah can come on here and explain why auto attack isn't present in the normal gameplay mode.

To me that is just a glaring misstep.

I like the game, but I have some advices to the pc control.

First, in tps view it is flustrating to hold left mouse button for free camera, it should change, so free camera view will be the default and ctrl or something other keydown show the cursor. Others  in tps is ok.

Second, the tactical view: I think it should be completely redesign. When I switch to tactical camera, i want to use a whole new control (maybe in menu: bind a tactical keys and tps keys separately). Mouse navigaton, click to move, mouse screen move, etc, like old isometric games.

Third: I control all my party members and switch off AI. So i want to give mass orders to my characters (actions chainable)

Best Regards:  Zalan

Agree that the Tac Cam needs a complete redesign.  Disagree that it should be a new control system.  IMO it should in fact be exactly the same control as the normal mode, camera-wise, combat-wise, everything.  It should not be a mode where you have to do everything a different way.  That's bad organization, bad programming.

It actually would be easiest if they redid it so the Tac Cam acts exactly like in Origins.  When you Pause, you are now in tac cam mode, and everything works the same, but you have more info on each target, queued commands, and edge scrolling.  It would also be a seamless transition behind the scenes as well, assuming the act of scrapping their current system doesn't break anything else.

Which it probably will, who are we kidding.

WOW, OP's post escalated quickly. While I do agree that the controls are a bad console port, key binding can be easily changed. They are not something to get a refund over, IMO.

For me I need to be able to map my mouse keys, I can do some stuff with the keyboard but I mostly use a mouse.

I suffer from Parkinson's Disease and being able to hit the proper keys on the keyboard <An retyping just about every word because it looks like gibberish the first time I type it, but that's just me>.

I have a Razor mouse with lots of map able buttons that I'm stuck with just using 2 buttons, I realize those of us who are handicapped are a minority that BW/EA never really thinks about but it would be nice to be thought of once in awhile, we like to game to and console game pads are out for me.

I'm not turning in my copy for a refund though I'm just hoping that BioWare being the company I love will realize this glaring error and fix it in patches.

Though I did use the Spacebar to Pause my game alot so I did remap that so I could get a grasp of the situation and slap my hands so they would pay attention, :).

P.S. (It has been addressed. A good start. :D)
http://forum.bioware...unity-concerns/

It has not been addressed or has it been answered.

It has been, sort of, acknowledged.

With the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition, we've been hearing a number of concerns from members of our PC community, including:

  • Driver support
  • Hitching and frame rate issues in cutscenes
  • Feedback on keyboard and mouse controls
  • General user interface optimizations for PC

Your post is not complaining that the UI has not been "optimized" for PC but that it has been totally forgotten and neglected in a decision of design. This has been spun with a whitewashed happy have-a-nice-day face.

But it has not addressed.

People, don't be stupid.

Well it may certainly shake up the professional critics on Metacritic who, once again, are miles away from the consumer user critics' experience who tank this game at 5.3 vs. the paid critics at 8.7.

The amount of disproportion on reaction in these forums and metacritics is so completely out of hand for bioware games as to be unbelievable. You have a game with some problems with controls (that however has naturally another input scheme than DA:O and people simply cannot seem to comprehend it nor have any interest to either try adapting to it no matter what - what an atrocious request!) and some bugs at launch (that I must admit can be infuriating but it always happens to a game of this scope) and suddenly all the audience becomes outraged and asking for an holy crusade to get a "global" refund.

Naturally all the good points of the game (that are much more than the negatives) go completely unnoticed nor cared about.

Then you have a game like The Witcher 2 that had almost the same exact input scheme but with the aggravating factor of absolute lag and inconsistency, a lot of bugs not yet resolved etc. etc. (and all in all a worse experience that DA:I for what it concerns so many points) and instead all the fans (comprised many here that bash DA:I and Bioware) having no problems whatsoever on defending the game on all turns, no matter what.

I think that people are using two weights and two measures here and this is an absurdity. It evidences much too well the complete bias towards Bioware of certain individuals. Try to use some objectivity ffs. There are some problems with controls? Sure. There are some bugs? Sure. Are these warrants enough to go bashing the game at every turn and trying to ask from other people to get a refund? Absolutely not and it doesn't happen with ANY other game or company, even when the product is much inferior to what we have here.

Get a grip. This trend is going out of hand from the time of DAII and ME3 and it is a shameful example of how much some kind of gamers seem to have nothing better to do in their lives than joining crusades towards some companies on purely arbitrary points just to feel somewhat alive.

This in a nutshell is why i fear that the PC market will end up being shelved by developers who will focus just on consoles. You have experienced all these "bugs" and yet, I have experienced nothing but a smooth, enjoyable, gaming experience on my PC. My question, simply, is how old is your rig ? Have you updated all drivers ? Is your system above minimum specs etc ?

I have 10 mates who brought the game. Only one had some of the issues you described. His system was above spec and in trouble shooting we found it was a software issue on his end that was causing his conflict. He had a old driver for his motherboard. A lot of people when they say a story like yours, and mention, that they have updated drivers etc but still have problems only refer to vid,OS drivers....download your mother board drivers, on board sound drivers and even software drivers like media player etc....one of those random software packages that are always outdated tend to be the issue.

True I myself didn't had much of problems with this game. Some minor bugs but nothing that makes game unplayable...only time I crashed is when I tried to take screenshot of my character lol(that was funny by the way my dad jokes that reason why game crashed when I tried to screenshot my dwarf Bob is because he is so ugly that even game can't handle it xD)

I found it impossible to continue playing with the controls, the targeting especially and the interaction with the world, it was just too much. So now im playing with my Ps3 controller, but not for long i figure.

Will probably shelve the game for a few months and return once and if bioware fixes most of these issues.

The PC Controls are bad, but are they really worth giving up the ability to experience the game. Yes they are VERY Bad. Yes they CLUNKY, Yes it is not okay on BioWare's behalf. However, I will keep my copy and I will hope, plead, beg and if necessary force the controls to change.

And so you give Bioware no incentive to bother. People may ****** and moan, but if they still sheepishly buy the games despite everything, then it's just pointless noise and they still validate the "let's rip them off" mentality.

Guys, I bought pre order about 6 months ago because I want to see how the story follows, just like I did with ME3.

I'm also disappointed with PC controls when compared to previous Dragon Ages as anybody else, but what I'm doing different, which is not different at all when you play a new game: I'm trying to adapt myself to the game controls. It surely would change from DA to another, of course there are control bugs too, but I learned to improve it, without resorting to joystick (I tried but eeeeew), "how" you ask?

Using the F key for looting reduced my clicking a lot, using the G key for auto walk may help, after all no open world game has click and go function as I recall.

Enabling autocenter camera on options improved a bit the experience, I was tired of hold RMB to look around.

Something confuses me, on DAO and DA2 when you pause it already goes into tactical mode, why did you split them?

Anyway, I'm not going to ask for refund, the game has a good crafting system (reminds me Dead Space 3 btw), gorgeous graphics, a lot to explore, tons of things to do, just wait a little more and have more fun, if you complain about this game controls, try the 1st Witcher, even on enhanced it was bad and never improved enough IMHO.

Look for alternative people, don't lose the fun!
