I've been looking forward to this game for a long time, but I held off on pre-ordering it because I was afraid it might have a camera like the one that ruined DA2 for me. Having read lots of reviews and comments over the last few days, it looks like that suspicion was correct. (In particular, what bothers me is the inability to zoom out far enough for a decent tactical view, especially indoors.)
This is especially disappointing because it seems like such an unnecessary yet devastating flaw. I don't see any advantage to having a tightly-restricted camera; why not give the player the option of zooming out? And it doesn't seem like it would've been difficult to implement, either.
The consensus explanation for the stupidly limited "tactical" camera is that the PC version of this game is just a lazy port from the console version; BioWare doesn't care about PC customers because we're not where the money is. That does seem like a plausible explanation, but if it's correct, it still seems like you guys have made a big mistake. My impression is that there are a lot of PC users who were interested in this game, but were worried about the camera, and so waited to see what reviewers and the first generation of players thought - not that there are enough of us to justify any major design changes or additions, maybe, but easily enough that it would've been financially worthwhile to implement a camera that zooms out a little further and goes through ceilings. (And even many of those PC users who bought this game may be disappointed enough, like I was with DA2, to avoid BioWare games in the future.)
I'll check back periodically on the off chance the camera gets fixed in a patch, but the community generally seems pessimistic about that.
