All my warrior/rogue companions just seem to sit at 100% stamina and auto attack during the fights. I have all their abilities enabled under the tactics menu so I know it isnt that. But I will be fighting for 5 minutes and see their stamina bar never budge from 100%. I switch to them and none of their abilities are on cooldown. Cassandra isnt taunting, Iron Bull isnt using mightly blow, Varric doesnt use full draw. They just sit and auto attack. Is this a bug? Is anyone else having this issue? I dont understand why they completely gutted the tactics menu, otherwise this would be easily solvable.

 

The only companion who does use moves is solas. And he just keeps using winters grasp, and then using dispel on the enemy whom he just froze... which makes zero sense.

Ive remade 3 times now and Cass and Solas are the only companions that use any abilities. I have tried 8 different companions and those two are the only ones that do anything besides auto attack regardless of how I set their skills as preferred or enabled

In the tactics menu make some of the abilities preferred. Then in behaviors change their stamina reserve setting to like 10% or something. That should fix it.

You may have accidentally set it to 100%, which means they are programmed to keep their reserve full. Hence they will not use any abilities.

I am on 360 and am having the same problem, I have resorted to quickly switching to party members and just button mashing then switching back so they actually are useful. I have changed my mana/stamina use to 0% but I did not know I can change abilities to preferred or whatever, I will try this when I get home.

What are your Follow/Defend settings? It seems like it would be an issue with those. Preferred just makes them choose that ability before others if more than one is available. It shouldn't stop them from using other enabled abilities though.

I had this issue. Cassandra and Varric would only auto-attack, while Solas was using his skills normally. It was very frustrating. Tried to micro-manage them for a while before giving up and closing the game. Today everything seems to be normal again, so hopefully it is just a minor bug.

 

My AI settings have the stamina/mana use at 10% for everyone but Solas, I keep him at 30%. Solas follows me (mage inq.), Varric defends Solas and Cassandra defends herself.
