I'm no artist but here are my thoughts on the whole UI fiasco:

You guys have access to EA's money, you have people who coded the SWTOR UI, just throw some dollars at them and i'm sure they can whip up a better UI in under a week.

Good ideas,

oh to Bring SKYUI to DAI !!!!!

After some time with it, (finished prologue, Haven and got to Hinderlands, all in all about 6 hours) I can say that controls do not feel any kind of good on KB/M.
Action cam:
- Move to point is lacking and it shows a lot, having to manually position character for every attack (if melee) and looting attempt gets tedious fast.
- "Search" function works fine for "hidden" things, but for crafting materials and loot it quickly gets tiring. I want it to be a toggle, and for lootable objects to have clear and visible labels. Current glowing outline is very easy to miss in certain lightning conditions.
- Having to click/hold for every attack instead of being able to command to continuously attack. It might work in MP, but in SP I have 3 other party members to keep track of, and their AI do not make it any easier.
Tactical cam:
- It's useless anywhere with low ceiling. Like in a dungeon. Where tactical combat is most needed. Outside those places, it has too small range and too small maximum height, so it can't show you whole battlefield at once. And it snaps back to character when I change selected one. And can't see through trees/walls/whatever.
- "Search" function does not work, so I can send a character to collect stuff, but can't highlight stuff that needs collecting.
- Jump doesn't work either. And move-to-point pathfinding can't navigate between height levels.
- Inability to select several characters at once make me unable to execute basic combat maneuvers like "you two go there, you two stay here", or just "move party in formation" without having to manually select each character and give orders. And they forget orders all the time, but that's probably a bug.

May be something else, but these things worried me the most.

It's like everybody is describing the same exact issues.  It's almost like we are telling Bioware everything they need to know.

Who wants to take bets on whether ANY of it gets addressed in the first patch?

Tactical Cam seems unusable to me.  To me it seems like it was specifically designed for consoles, you have a cursor on the ground, as if your supposed to be moving it with a joystick.  They need to get rid of the cursor on the ground and just give us a better viewing angle and everything should just be point and click.  No moving the camera with WASD.

I would also like to enjoy combat in 3rd person view but with not having an autoattack and the awkward controls it makes it a pain in the ass.  Really 3rd person and tactical view should not be two separate modes for pc,  I should blend seamlessly into one, it worked great in DAO

Been saying this exact thing since August!

Walk toggle, please! Thanks for letting us know you're listening, Bioware. c:

I would love to know what slider setting you used to make your character look like that!

+1 for the walk toggle

And we seriously need a chest to store our stuff.

So I have an issue with left mouse clicks. Sometimes a left mouse click will turn my full screen into a windowed. If I click again, it's back to full screen. This is true for both, SP and MP.

And MP only: sometimes the game behaves as if have pressed esc, when I press a/s/d or shift.

SkyUi was a blessing for Skyrim but it was more like a quick and dirty bandaid over a catastrophic problem. DAI's UI needs a bigger overhaul than that (and i have no ideas about the crafting menus yet :P ).

Thanks for the update!

I’d suggest changing the forum theme a bit, the sticky posts are pretty much invisible right now.

So what are the REAL requirements for this to work on a PC? I suppose that's the question. Even suped up laptops are having issues.

FWIW, I have a very midrange machine from a few years back (at or below Recommended) with the only real upgrade being a GTX 760, and I’m running at almost max settings with—for me—tolerable FPS.

If souped-up machines are having issues, it sounds like bugginess rather than a general problem.

Do you have a controller plugged in? That might cause some problems sometimes.

No, I haven't. But I appreciate the suggestion.

work on the game a few years and forgot to check how it will work with NVIDIA graphics cards in SLI - I'll tell you flickering textures - fix it but in a jiffy.

1280px-Triple_facepalm.png

Well ea is partners with amd and not nvidia so they really have no obligation to make it work for sli i think thats nvidias job same thing goes for nvidia partners that uses gameworks like ubisoft if you notice their games run like shite on amd cards, i myself have an sli setup and been having to run thing game on one card because of stuttering and flickering, its crap but its just how things are.

While I also appreciate a Bioware person finally saying something, I have to agree. If anyone--anyone in the development team with any PC RPG gaming experience had bothered to play with KB&M they would have immediately gone... "well, this is Not Good, guys, we need to fix this."

No autoattack? No click, mouse, character walks to loot? No full no-pause party support, even on "easy" and "normal"? No player-directed mouse binds? C'mon. It's not like you guys are new at this.

The fact that no streams using K&M were shown (and that the first people to get the game to play were console players) leads me to believe 1 of 2 things: someone did, said exactly that, and its clunkiness was deliberately hidden, or, 2, that no-one bothered. DA:O and DA2 were perfectly good PC-played games, and Bio should know better. I can play DA:O for hours and lose all the time in it (I've lost count of how many play throughs!) and yet after an hour of playing DA:I my hands were so sore I stopped.

I could put DA2 on "easy" and never ever pause and just sit back and enjoy the interactive combat. DA:O the only time I put it lower than normal was in the Fade (because it went faster! hehe). Telling us that we will have "fast and interactive combat with choice on PC" is not what is happening with K&M. Dying on the tutorial boss in normal multiple times because the interface is clunky and you can't even see the clicky hand on the rift when you have a gaming laptop in tactical? Priceless.

I expect so much better--and I, like others, would like to know specifics before the refund window closes, because as it stands now, I cannot play (and I am not going to buy a framming controller to play on my PC. "Controller support" =/= "must buy a controller", and should not).

Combined with the choppy play on a well-over-spec rig that runs other load-heavy games perfectly fine (loading takes SEVEN of RAM? Really?) and this is unacceptable, sorry.

I have never, EVER complained about a DA game in any bioware forum before. I've never felt the need. I expected it to be the same this time. Bugs, I expect. This sort of mislead? I do not. From EA, yes. From Bioware, no.

I really don't want to return the game if this will be fixed. I want to play your beautiful game! I want to complete my collection of blond-haired, brown-eyed boys! But, I am also leery of losing my AU$90 (thanks for the Australia tax, btw, guys), so I really need to know before that refund window closes. Please.

Great take, I came here to post my own version of this post but quoting this one since it is spot on.

The PC interface issues come through the very first time you play.  The inadequacies of the interface come across within minutes of playing the game.  It was a business decision to not fix them, own that EA.

Aye, and it's been going on since late Monday night (everybody basically describing all the same issues at length and in anger)

It was clearly a business decision for them.  The question now becomes, will they make the right decision now, and get this crap fixed.  There was a poster that mentioned it might be because they tasked a less than qualified programmer the job.  Maybe fire his ass and have Darrah or Laidlaw sit down and do the thing right.

Ty for adressing some of the problems with the PC version.

The lousy console UI and the random crashing are the biggest issues i have with the game.

I switched to a controller as soon as I used the mouse/pc interface for the tutorial and figured out the keyboard controls were not going to work for me. The controller worked okay for me until I got to the first hard boss battle in Fallen Mire. Between the need to keep clicking the controller in order to keep fighting and the limits on potions and lack of healer, that fight proved totally impossible for me. It's hard to be strategic when nothing happens in the game unless you're clicking. The tactical view hasn't been much help so far.

Beyond the carelessness of the design, there's this feeling that I'm playing in a straightjacket. I have to worry about whether I'm using up my 8 potions too quickly. There's no magic healing at all. The mages are limited to 4 kinds of skills. They could have the same effect by tossing grenades, basically. Origins was very complex in terms of combat; DA2 was less so, and Inquisition is even narrower. I don't understand the design choices and I'm not having fun with that part of the game at all.

I'd prefer to use the mouse and keyboard but that's not an option since the repetitive motion was killing my fingers even after a short time period. I play Skyrim and ESO without that problem; the combat in those games is much easier to manage because I am only controlling one character.

I've been addicted to Bioware games since Baldur's Gate 1; for every game before this one, I could look forward to sleepless nights after a new game came out, I'd play it so much. With this one, so far, I'm not feeling very much.

Developers sure love to release unfinished product lol, nowadays "day 1" patches are common and are a few GBs big.

Actually they do not, developers that is.  Publishers do though.  EA was going to ship this before Thanksgiving come hell or high water.

There are, but they have no info in them.

You hover over an ability it says "Ability Name". And thats it.

No idea what it is doing.

Just like no item descriptions, that screams deadline to me.

With the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition, we've been hearing a number of concerns from members of our PC community, including:

  • Driver support
  • Hitching and frame rate issues in cutscenes
  • Feedback on keyboard and mouse controls
  • General user interface optimizations for PC

We've been following these issues closely and are looking into them.

Player experience is a top priority for us. Our goal is to address as many of these as possible in our upcoming patches, including some in our next patch, which is underway. We’ll release further details in the coming days and will continue to monitor your concerns.

Your feedback is important to us, and we appreciate your contribution to making Dragon Age: Inquisition a better overall experience.

UPDATE:

If you are having DirectX issues and you have an AMD Radeon graphics card, please update to the AMD Catalyst 14.11.2 beta driver.

We are aware of issues with certain NVidia graphic cards and we are working with NVIDIA for a solution.

Thank you for your response. I'm sure many of us appreciate that you are trying to work on these fundamental bugs and/or design issues. I was just about to request a refund within my 24 hour period, but based on this I'm going to trust Bioware one LAST time and keep the game.

I think it would be advisable for you to also respond about some other major oversights. For example, it's painfully obvious that some sort of replacement for the tactics needs to be re-introduced in a patch, hopefully soon. I (and many others, you've obviously read the threads) are downright furious that the excellent, intelligent, thinking-person's, dramatic, cinematic, and downright epic (those cutscenes still give me chills after 5 play-throughs) RPG that was DAO has devolved into something so radically different and so COMMON (the world already has plenty of button-mashing action-games with a few RPG elements thrown in). All you need to do to fix things the VAST majority of complaints is bring back a camera and control structure similar to DAO on the PC, which worked perfectly well 95% of the time or more, enable a good click-to-move and click-to-perform action system, and put back the tactics! Heck, just go play DAO on a PC for a few days, feel how smoothly it works, how seamlessly the game plays, then come back and implement exactly that experience. Don't fret over it, don't try to re-think it, just do a 100% replication of how DAO works in terms of controls, camera, character selection, character movement, item selection, and tactics. Then you're done. You'll probably make most of us, who are now saddened and furious, very happy....

Thanks for listening.

Edit: I've actually requested a refund. Discovered that the DRM associated with the game looks to prevent stereoscopic rendering software from working (TriDef in my case). Maybe there will be a fix in the future, but with all the other massive problems I decided that was just the last straw. I'll check back and see if you've fixed it and purchase it again if you have. As of now all I can say is I'm sorry I even bothered to spend the half-day or so with it, as it was a total waste of time.

Yup.

Will be interested to see how many patches it takes these "minor" things to get addressed.  You'd think they would already have the code ready to insert, just waiting on the post-release session to begin.

What is it, Thursday already?

Yeah... that won't happen, they would have to rework too many things. I can see minor changes/better mouse support incoming but nothing on that scale unfortunatly.

To add to the list, I just say being able to rotate your char on the inventory screen would be win. But that is maybe the last thing to fix if it would come to it.

For me personally, the UI. It's horrible. I was first thinking that I really do suck at this but good news! Apparently it's not just me!

Didn't think I'd say this anytime soon, but I'd gladly give up the ability to jump for a DAO/DA2 UI functions.

Oh and also (for me that is) the sliders in the CC-menu (on the makeup section) look like they reset when they actually haven't when I swap between them. Sort of minor thing but adds to the overall sloppiness of things.

And occasionally the sliders get stuck on the mouse even if I'd let go of the mouse button and then I have a huge crowlike nose of something..

Edit: Oh and one HUGE thing for me, it'd be great to see your saved games screenshot instead of general view. I atleast have no recollection what exact time I have made what save, so a screenshot of what's happening would be very helpful.

Pc player here. It pains me to see the metacritic score knowing how awesome Inquisiton is.

Just wanted to let you devs know that you have my full support. The game is beautiful, it just needs some more work. I know you're already doing your best.

Don't release half hearted projects or broken junk and you amazingly won't get bad reviews.
