Would be great if we could get a word on how long we'll have to wait for a patch.

The last response on these forums seen addressing this was on Tuesday, November 25 (five days ago) in this post:

"We are doing our best to address these issues and concerns. Please understand that fixing and implementing these things takes time, as all things do. Until the patches are finalized, I'm afraid it would be a disservice to both the community and our developers if I were to provide incomplete information. Our team is hard at work as we speak, and we will provide an update once we have finalized information."

Translation:

"I am unable to respond, or I am unwilling to respond.  Further demands on information will get you nothing. On this matter, there is nothing more to be said."

Incidentally, that was also that BioWare employee's final response in the this thread.  The significance of the silence is left as an exercise to the reader.

I love this game, the voice acting and the story is top notch. The level design of the game is also stunning. But, the terrible design of the UI and the wonky PC controls ruin the experience for me. One huge downer is the very bad AI path-finding, stupid companion AI and lack of "tactics" where you can customize your party behavior in depth.

Are the millions of PC gamers who will buy the game not worthy of a simple UI and controls adjustment for their platform? Such a shame.

Since you claim that this game was "built for PC gamers by PC gamers," I made a screenshot of a true UI truly designed for a PC game, with some comments I added myself.

Meh, I'd read it as, "We're aware of the complaints and are trying to do what we can, but we're not going to make promises we can't keep."

Pretty much what a PC ui should look like, but that's too much work now that the game is out. Not even sure if frostbite would allow such a thing. They should have slapped the .lua UI from swtor and called it a day, would have covered at least 90% of the actual shitstorm...

Meh, I'd read it as, "We're aware of the complaints and are trying to do what we can, but we're not going to make promises we can't keep."

Like "this is a game made for PC players by PC players"?

You are right, we do not know the limitations of the Frostbite engine. However, I feel that they could have done a better job with the one that exist as a framework for the bad UI we ended up with.

If they only had lua based UI, Andraste! We might have been able to mod some parts of it, we will never know :(

So after whole two weeks this thread is still so so pointless, why I even buy this game after DA2 and ME3? I'm so stupid, they have the new ''audience'' for that, but not me anymore.

GOTY in my opinion

The point I'm making is that the prospect of disgruntled players contacting him motivated Bioware employees to start replying to this thread, whereas hundreds of those same players simply asking Bioware to do so wasn't good enough. Indeed, whining to a former Bioware employee about DA:I related issues is about as productive as whining about people whining to him. ;)

It is actually much less productive.  And, I am not whining...I am making an observation of illogical whining.   ;)  :P

GOTY in my opinion

DOS has it's share of flaws. The UI is clunky (too many clicks to get things done), the story is forgetable, the game is too easy once u get the crafting system and start to abuse Guerilla+Sneak+Glass Cannon combo. Finished off the Void Dragon on the highest difficulty (hard i think)  with a well built character in about 2-3 minutes. The game IS good, but I doubt it is GOTY material.

Incredible isn't it? Your example is perfectly lucid. I can see all the relevant information in an instant. Character information and the numbers behind them. I don't have separate menus for equipping and viewing statistics either. I can see large swathes of my inventory and in turn am able to make better decisions based on that information. Where as the current modus in DAI is but seven items at any given time and only a specific stratum of inventory.

In DAI you are only able to perceive your data through a keyhole. It's manageable but only just within reason.

The menus seem slightly more complex but if they are, or could be open and script based... it would definitely mitigate some of my resent.

I found the UI fine myself, enough material but not too much that it is cluttered. UI even though visually stunning, is not usually done well in RPGS in my experiences. There is just the disconnect of what is important data and what is negligible. UI like everything has to prioritize.

The game has it's balancing flaws that is for sure but other aspects of the game are done extremely well.

-The Co-op inspired dialogue tht would allow a user to roleplay two characters that  also have attatched variables to influence this dynamic.

-Solid although lightweight CC.

-The crafting system which is backed by a good ensemble of armor kits(which Dragon age falls victim to).

-The character traits or perks that actually had a lot of influence on the game and not just few pieces of dialogue.

-The visually stunning spells and abilities.

-The robust modkit that came with me.

This might not satisfy a lot of people but I haven't come across a game this year that offered me so much more at such a price.

It just boggles my mind, why would anyone design an UI the way they did.

Looking back, I remember watching a Bioware panel on "their future games", even before DAI was announced. On that panel Mike Laidlaw said that they are aware of the mistakes they did and that they "heard" the community concerns about DA2. That obviously never happened. The franchise even took some steps back in areas like the UI design, companion AI, path-finding and customization.

It seems as there is a great disconnect between the fan-base and Bioware in general. By fan-base I mean - us people who stick around with the franchise because we truly love it. Not just play it for a few days and throw it in the virtual garbage. I hope many here would agree, that when we buy a Bioware game, we expect much more than just a another game, right? Maybe that is the problem in the end.

To them it is just another "project" that ended selling good on all platforms. To us it is something we love and enjoy.

What gets me the most is the phrase "Made for PC".  This game was made "on" a PC...but absolutely not "for" the PC.  It's a console port.

Whenever you have to develop for multiple platforms, and one is forced to use the controller as its only input device, you're therefore developing for the controller. Plain and simple.  And please, anyone in development, correct me if I'm wrong, but you absolutely must develop based on the most restrictive targeted platform's input device if you want those users to have a 'good' experience.  Right?

The fact is, you can't make a PC UI work on consoles.  There isn't enough control on the controller (oddly enough) to make it work without being aneurysm-inducing to navigate through.

IMO the controller is killing the gaming industry.  It should be more of an option and less of a requirement.  There's no reason why you can't use M&KB on any of these new consoles anyway.  They're all PCs.  They have their own OS.  They install apps like a phone for gods sake. Most of them have their own USB ports.

Can we just have a collective denouncing of the controller as the 'be all, end all' input device for gaming?  Couldn't it be more of a choice at this point?

I think we will perhaps never see, a PC UI. Why would they support us PC Gamers? The most sell games gone to PS4 followed of XBox One, in third place came the PC with the old Gen Consoles as last ones...

So, why go this bothersome way to recreate the UI just for 3rd Class customers?

i use the latest VGChartz as base...

p.s. Yes, i am poking around...

I can live with that nonsense UI but they just have to rework PC controls and tactical view couse the game is frustrating.

BTW Divinity is a great RPG and it's on promotion on steam now so it's worth a shot. Age of Decadence wil be much much better though.

I doubt we'll see a modded UI the way we got a decent one for Skyrim either since BioWare doesn't seem to keen on modding...which is a shame, since most of the big issues would probably have been resolved by now.

In the day of PC digital sales, VGChartz is next to meaningless.

It is all speculation at the best, but with the increase in PC gaming and how the Dragon Age's core fanbase is still very much PC orientated. I would have expected more. On paper they tried with example bringing the tactical view back. I don't have the technical knowledge to say how much is it on engine and how much on BioWare, but of course BioWare is also the one that chooses the engine in the end.
