Oh, sorry! Apparently I'm not only stupid I'm blind too!
It was the sprint button I was wondering on, since my char don't seem to be sprinting no matter what.

I told Mike Laidlaw on Twitter about how sprint button has no functionality outside of mount riding. He didn't response back though (he asked me whether it worked in multiplayer and I said nope).

After a few hours in I can say that this game is even worse than DA II just because of the horrible PC controls and general gameplay. Comon Bioware, graphics and story are fine and I enjoy the exploration but combat ?! REALLY ?!
- 30fps cap in cutscenes ? yeah, PC was definitly your main target !
- No auto attack ?! wtf happened ?
- No auto move on target ? My character just keep slashing the air !
- Ennemies are barely identifiable with all the effects !
- Camera ?! what the hell guys ?! I have my nose in the action I can barely see what my group is doing and worst of all, the tactical view is so crappy it's not even possible to use it correctly !
- No healing spells or ability whatsoever ? HAHAHAHAHA are you so dumb you actually thought you were gonna revolutionize the RPG genre ? this is crap ! I've been playing RPG for more than half my life and NEVER have I seen such crapy game design. I can understand you didn't want to allow player to heal too much between combat (Attrition style ! let me laugh a little here...) so instead of allowing heal, you gave us 8 potions for the entire group + optional ones that barely can help healing in combat, and force us to go back to camp every 5 minutes to heal and refill potions... I could have offer you way better ideas for free....
- Loot ?! My god it's such a pain in the ass ! no zone loot ? spaming V (by default) to search for valuables ? Haven't you got any clue about how other games handle that WAY better than you do ? the loot animation is soooooo boring !
- Menus / Inventory : that's what you call having PC platform as your main target ?! Seriously ?! no wonder you never showed any previews on PC UI... It's crap console port with crapy console limited mechanisms !
- UI : ok so no portrait for the hero ? just some ugly hand ? god this feels cheap ! Also stamina / mana is barely visible (but hey its not like we have to actually see those .. oh wait...)
- ranged class staying on melee ? This made me laugh at start, less now... Why the hell do ranged don't MOVE AWAY ?!
- Movement : why does all the group alway move together in combat ? Is the inquisition some sort of unique mind ? why can't the mage stay way in range ? Why can't my archer stay on the hill above and shoot arrows without feeling the need to come closer EVERY TIME ?!
DA:I could have been a great game... Hell it could have given me faith in bioware again. But hey what was I expecting ? you butchered your game, probably cause EA told you to focus on consoles cause it's more profitable. Yeah well, you've done it. I'm not even hoping to see some patchs for all of this concerns. I'm going back to normal mode to beat the game as fast as I can and forget about it just as fast... and forget about Bioware too...

It's amazing so many people are making their first post in this thread and they are almost all comprehensive, detailed lists that are, for the most part, touching on all the same points.
I've never really been a part of a messageboard at this unique time in a game's life cycle.
I really hope the patch, whenever it comes out, fixes alot of this stuff, or this place might get really ugly...

It's evidence of the glaring faults Bioware made with this game.
And if they care about their reputation at all and the future of the franchise, they will fix this so quick, it'll make our heads spin.
But we shall see....

Don't have anything new to add. Plays like a very bad console port, I'm guessing Bioware not a PC game company any more. I can't really complain as I have had a great deal of enjoyment from their games over the years. Just wish they had made it clear DA:I is a console game.

i have been replaying DAII and yes the controls were so much better in that game. how could they **** this up so bad?
though my main frustration is the utter lack of tactics. being able to customize 4 things is not tactics. the information that the game would have tactics was horse crap. i can't even give individual hold position commands. forget about selective targeting. my party atacks the same target forever. and lets not get into the the horrible horrible placement that AI chooses for my companions. hunting dragons is an ordeal as they simply die out of pure stupidity.
also going into tactical mode causes all chaarcters to fall down from a hill and return ground level. also i can't automove to places that have ladder access. am i supposed to ****** climb there myself?

I remember you from the walk toggle thread because of your profile pic! Sup. The fact that Mark Darrah specifically mentioned driver support, framerate issues/hitching in cutscenes, kb/mouse controls and UI issues and the fact that he mentioned some of these issues would be addressed in the next patch makes me pretty optimistic that some of this stuff really is going to get a fix of some sort.
How extensive these fixes are and how much the community likes them is another question but I seriously doubt bioware would even mention the issues if they weren't already very confident they could do something about them to some degree.
As for ugliness and vitriol: I hope there isn't any. It will do nothing but make it more difficult for bioware to communicate with us. People can express disappointment and complain about the issues they have with the game without being ugly. I'm confident that's what people will do.

I feel like I'm trying to kick Lucy's football. EVERY TIME I've bought one of your games for the last 10 years I've been disappointed! I'm like a woman who only dates abusive men!
WHAT THE **** IS WRONG WITH ME?!
Fine. I get it. Whatever. You wanna be an ACTION game company. Then let me rebind the ******* mouse!
I actually did away with the mouse completely and remapped the keyboard with the keys from Gothic. It works really well except I'm PLAYING A ******* GAME WITH ONLY A KEYBOARD IN 20-*******-14!!!
I wonder if it's possible to use a PS4 controller with a PC...
Of course then I'll be using a corded controller device for the FIRST TIME IN A DECADE!!!
WHIPPEEEEE YAY DRAGON AGE!
PS. Seriously, you did this on purpose to **** with us. This can't be chaulked up to incompetence.

A patch will help with some of the issues, but really a number of the major problems seem pretty fundamental to the design of the UI and unless they're going to redesign the entire UI (which I doubt) and build a proper customisable AI system all it's ever going to do is make it less painful rather than good.

Basically read these: Very Good post.

I know a lot of ppl are angry about the PC game. I get that, I was also very excited about the game, but that died very fast, Because it's a game that runs on a PC, but not a PC game.
I like to be challenged in a game. Playing on hard or ever more difficult. But this game is not playable on anything harder then normal. Becasue using the "Tac cam" is tedious/unworkable. I need a good overview of the battle and the "Tac CaM Reset" after each char selection is very annoying. It's so annoying that i had to switch to normal. But then the game feels like a button smashing fest or something.
Well i don't think i need to addres the "Inventory", It is made for the console. On PC it doesn't make any sense to do it that way. Basic things like comparing gear. Juist two pop-up screeens with "Current equipped" and the one in your inv. How hard this be. And sorting gear in categories. All very basic things on PC games.

And Looting ? What is up with the "V" .. Why not display herbs and nodes on your mini map ? Pressing "V" is giving me RSI.
Do something like "Hold ALT To display item names on the ground", Like diablo. Thats a very nice trick.

For now i have warned a few frends to not buy the game and wait until they fix it.
So if you are angry, and want to do something, Post something they can fix or Repost something you agree with.
And if they don't fix it, there are gonna lose a lot of hard core and casual PC gamers.
Sorry about my lacking englisch writing quality, Not native.
. And damnz, i didn't want to write so much, I got carried away.
I Hope they will fix it VERY FAST, Otherwise i will wait until the Witcher 3.
Got luck to the Dev. I only hope we don't get rushed solutions.

There was also the money factor to look at, and the conspiracy theories that went around at the time that Microsoft had paid EA to only focus on the console gameplay, to downplay any pc content, purely to try and keep buyers away and in their pockets.
Clearly it didn't end up mattering if that was the case or not, since it seems there was very little to no QA or beta testing done for the pc anyway.
I don't think that was a conspiracy theory so much as probably true. If you go and play the pre-game red lyrium weapons game on the site (which was clearly to up their preview vid views on you-tube), all of the companion preview vids start with an XBox logo. Sony's is notably absent, despite being a platform that DA:I was released on--it's not the same as if DA:I was, say, X-bone exclusive.
I try not to think too much about these things... except then I think of Ultima SPer [anyone too young to understand why, look up the Spoony Experiment's series on that fiasco]... Maxis...and every other formerly terrific company that has been overarched and made half of their former wonderfulness by EA. And I am sadfaced...

Thank you, BioWare, I'm waiting for DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG error fix. It's essential issue since it affects story experience and breaks immersion of the game. (cutscene crashes)

I agree. Less painful is a step in the right direction, at least. And given the fubar, maybe they'll put a little extra time into the next game. If not, they'll have done a downright excellent job at ostracizing their PC fanbase.
Or maybe, you know, just make the game mod-able. That would solve most of these issues since the community would just fix their problems.

I agree with most of the peopel here. The UI is poor console port. Well... It's a shame and you've butchered your game. The controls are just plain stupid. Why would you change the standart control scheme from other DA games and many other RPGs/MMORPG?
It totally killed my first impression about this game.

Well, I finally managed to get into the game. Turns out my graphics settings got corrupted somehow and I reset them. Hopefully this will get addressed very soon. But anyway, after an hour or so of gameplay, the game is looking pretty good (and not just graphically.) I do agree that the UI could use some reworking. The major issues bugging me (so far) are:
1. Tooltips. Both for the hotbar and the buff/debuff icons. I really don't want to have to open up the character menu every time I forget what a new skill does. And for the (de)buff bar: While status effects are usually self-explanatory (and there's a codex entry explaining them), the other icons such as that for Payback Strike aren't. It would be much better to see "You have been hit recently. Payback Strike now does more damage" when hovering over it, or just "Payback strike does more damage" if that's too long.
2. List who is speaking in subtitles. This is especially needed with ambient dialogue, which lacks the context that cutscenes have. I can very easily recognize Brian Bloom's voice whenever Varric speaks; that's not necessarily the case for the other characters. Half the time I couldn't tell whether Solas or my character were responding in ambient dialogue, and this will likely get worse when more characters join. The little speech bubble icons are far too hard to see out of the corner of my eye when exploring. And if it's an NPC talking, well, you don't even get those.
Now the minor gripes:
1. Sometimes it's unclear whether I use my left or right mouse button to interact with something. Really could use some clarification.
2. The clickable area on fade rifts should be bigger.
3. The "skidding" animation that occurs every time you stop moving looks a little awkward.
4. A legend of the tone icons in the convo wheel somewhere would be nice.
Overall though, minus the technical issues, I've definitely had a better first impression of DA:I than either DA:O or DA2. Hoping, of course, that Bioware listens to us and fixes the bugs and issues and smooths out the UI (though admittedly after ME3, SWTOR, DA:O, and DA2 they don't have a great reputation for doing so).

Maybe I should just stop playing and wait for the patch, as the looting problems and lack of auto-attacks are just ruining the game for me personally.

I wish my game would actually arrive so I could see these problems for myself lol, damn Amazon probably screwed up my order

Still, I would play for the story itself and wanting to see what happens next really. It would bother me but I would know/hope a fix is coming and I would bear it.
