I think much of the issues around the M&KB controls is that they are so obviously tied to controller schemes. For instance we drive a reticule around the map in tactical mode, maneuvering it around boxes and up stairs. Why? Because that's how controllers have to move. There is literally no other reason. Most KB&M controls would allow click and drag and/or pan with the mouse.

<snip>

Thanks for that explanation, Shinian.
Wish I hadn't posted my two small feature enhancement requests now, because I don't think they're going to happen based on this explanation :-( .

I'm definitely at a loss as to how on earth remapping mouse controls wasn't included at launch. Multi-button mice are so prevalent these days that they aren't even called gaming mice any more. I have several different 5 button mice which are "normal" in comparison to the 10 + button gaming mice I've seen and the fact that I wasn't able to rebind abilities in game to those buttons is baffling. Especially taking into account that there are several melee abilities in this game that require simultaneous wasd and ability button input which is kinda hard to when when pressing a number key kinda necessitates removing a finger from wasd. Which of course wouldn't be a problem if I could just bind some of my ability keys to my mouse.

When we were told early on there would be jumping in a Dragon Age game, my first thought was 'Ughh... what did they do...' But I was always thinking in the back of my mind, however clunky it would be, if I can have it mapped to one of my thumb buttons on the mouse, it would at least be easy to get to.

Guess not. No native mapping to a 5 button mouse. Too complicated.

Same, but i got DA2 refund (really didn't take long and Zero regrets as far as I am concerned. First sign of weakness from BW was this shitty game).

ME3, The ending aside... I enjoyed it.

DA:I Got a refund, and unlike DA2. I waited the last minute to do it. The game actually looks promising, but it's just fucked up how a simple thing like poor controls and a UI crafted for consoles can break a game for you. I tried VERY hard to adapt and roll with it... No possible.

Figures that support why the PC gaming community should be given the love and respect they deserve:

Global, to-date console sales of Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4: ~190 million

PC gamers worldwide: ~900 million

Granted, a huge portion of those nearly-one-billion PC gamers are strictly casual gamers, but that's still a tremendous figure, and not to be taken lightly when it comes to making the extra effort to properly tailor PC game experiences, and ensure that large titles meet some basic quality threshold prior to release. And, of course, why it should be important to address glaring issues ASAP post-release.

I had a look at your post. I don't have these problems. The double click one I've experienced when my mouse was starting to wear out. You could test to see if it's skipping in any other software.

Don't give up hope though, I'm sure they will come through with some improvements, just not an entire rewrite of the PC interface.. (which is really needed)

I tested with two mice. One default Logitech one from last year that came with my keyboard, and a Roccat Kone+ which I can configure into oblivion. (Heh, the damn thing even came with weights ;-))

I get better performance on the Kone, and that's probably because I adjusted the DPI on it.

And no, I don't get skipping in other software. I dont get skipping in PS, don't get skipping in AlienWare, don't get skipping in MAx, Modo, ZBrush or any of the other apps I use in my day to day - nor do I get skipping in W2, Skyrim, Beyond Earth, or D:OS :)

EDIT to add: Someone pointed out it actually IS a problem  w hardware scanning

Also  - rule one of SWE-testing: The fact you don't get the issue doesn't mean the issue doesn't exist, or that it's solely a user problem :)
I asked for them to be feature enhancements, because the requests are cosmetic and not bugs as such.
Like you, I dont think it will happen, but, at least I asked :)

Pardon the question from the peanut gallery but what/where are those numbers from?

Buy it on Origin and try for yourself, if you like it you can keep it and if not you can just get a refund. For me it was a huge dissapointment with the broken PC controls so I just got it refunded, no harm done.

I'm thinking not to even go thru the trouble of getting a refund. I'll wait until they fix it. :)

I'd consider those numbers a conservative estimate over 130 million play League of Legends on PC 27 Million of them daily, combined total sales of The Last Of Us on PS3 6 Million wheras Diablo 3 on PC ?over 6 Million in its first week.

http://www.techradar...ght-now-1260162

Or take Star Citizen over 600,000 subscribers who have contributed over $65,000,000 in funding contrary to what console gamers would like to believe PC gaming is far from dead its thriving.

The rule of "If I buy a game within 6 months of the initial release then I'm dealing with bugs" really isn't sinking in with a lot of us PC gamers. We keep buying games at launch and then complaining instead of holding out until they are fixed. Do any of you honestly think that is the best way to get the message across that they need more QC in the industry?

I'm not defending this crap at all just stating the obvious of what people should expect if they keep blindly pre-ordering games based on IP or past experiences and then impotently complaining about design decisions and performance issues without doing their research. Case in point I bought a PS4 controller a month ago because I knew that I wouldn't want to play this with a KB/M based on the information they released. I agree the keyboard and mouse control are crap but I knew that way before I purchased the game.

13% of the worlds population is a PC gamer...? Yeah, just no way that is even close to accurate. Unless you count my Mum who plays solitaire on her pc? And has done since our first family pc in the early 90s?

And if thise people are being counted, well, that is very weaksauce.

The one thing i would really like to see added to the pc version is the ability to turn off the auto-zoom when combat starts. I hate that it automatically zooms the camera out farther and then locks it so that I can not zoom in closer with the action cam. I prefer to play zoomed in close to my character and currently can not do that in action mode. It drives me crazy especially when trying to play melee characters. I like to see the details of the things I am fighting. Both origins and DA2 allowed you to stay zoomed in closer during combat. Just unlock the cam distances and that would make me happy.

I agree with you there.  Melee isn't nearly as much fun having to do it from long distance.  I still don't know what a darkspawn looks like up close in this game.

This and how Marketing puts out pictures asking which platform I want to play on, showing Xbox and PS4, and leaving out PC doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling that Bioware gives a damn about its PC playerbase.

I do agree with your post totally.

I only clipped it because the point that i'm quoting is exactly what I thought when I saw that tweet. It was very telling.

I can't believe we have been kept in the dark for so long, it's like they do not care.  been more then 2 weeks ive owned DAI... 2 weeks its just been sitting there unused.

Honestly I have never in my 20 or so years of gaming been so put off by the controls of a game that I was unable to play it.  I have never been so frustrated by a game that I have felt a need to reach out to the company and post on forums, so these have really been my first time posting in a forum.

I have been a big supporter of bioware since KOTOR and have purchased all of their games on day 1 or close to it.  After this though (and the whole for pc gamers by pc gamers marketing garbage) I have to say my faith has been shaken.  I'm sorry bioware but from now on I do not think I can ever buy any of your games remotely even close to launch until i scope out the forums and the community (definitely not gaming sites like IGN/gamespot/etc because their misleading reviews also led me to buy it day 1) before i make my decision to buy.  If i had done that with this game I would have never had purchased DAI.

ps the game does look great and I wish i could play it if it wasn't for the controls

The last straw for me was about a week ago when my rogue went out of his way to ignore the enemy I clicked on  to attack (tactical mode) , went all the way down from a hill that the battle was on, and - backstabbed a tree.  I'm not sure what level the tree was :P.  (The pathfinding is very strange at times).  Would be nice to be able to play a patched version of my (cough) $70.00 (cough) game this weekend Bioware.

It would be nice with an ETA about the patch, they said in a stream someone linked earlier on this thread that one was in QA testing, so... When will that be done, where are the deadlines?!

To not be able to play this weekend either would be damn near heartbreaking. Please let the patch be released tomorrow, please.

I think that Allan misunderstands the issue.

The more i read his posts, the more it seems obvious to me that in his mind this is what he thinks "Well  i don't get it, you have all the functionnalities of the game on the keyboard and mouse. It works."

Now he didn't say that, but let's be real... That's kinda the message he has been trying to get accross to justify the design choices (or lack-off) when it comes to the KB/M controlls.

He is right, it does work.

Like taking the stairs to get on the top of a twenty story building works. Thing is, most of us like to use the elevator to get there so we don't have to scream our lungs out just to enjoy the view.

Bottom line is, there is no design choice here. You basicly copy/pasted the key binding of the controller and assigned them to W/A/S/D/Space/LM/RM/SPACE/P/R.

The time it took you to do this and additional tweeks in the game menu to match these options? A day? Two maybe?

It's just plain laziness dude.

I am just glad that I got my refund.

If this becomes a trend in futur bioware games, than do us all a favor and stop making games on PC to  save us the disappointment.

The witcher will replace you fine, you won't be missed.

That being said, I still hope that you won't do this **** ever again. As i did enjoy the MA/BG/DA:O games quite a bit. But trust me, i can live without them.

When it comes to RPG, many games do a better job than you do now (Divinity) and same goes for story (Telltale).

Schumacher was on some bulltshit, Bioware knows damn well the PC controls have issues

Hold up, hold up, hold up.....

Are you describing gameplay on pc but with a controller?  Or are you saying in the pc ui, the camera cannot be fully manipulated via right click panning or mousewheel zooming in/out once combat begins??

I'm not certain what you mean. But if you mean - What occurs to the world when your custom world state fails to import? You accept the default canon world state.

DAI wiki:

Failure to load the default world state means you wake up in nowhere land.

So, yes, you still need to download a world state be it default or custom. To avoid this sad state of affairs, just start Origins, Login then select your game and hit Play in Origins....

BW is accused of NOT testing, now you want them to rush a patch?
