Anyone else getting this issue?

Also - I am wondering if there's anything constructive to be done.
If people would be willing to help me sift through issues, would it be of value if I installed a bugbase somewhere, so people could actually report issues, which we'd report back to BioWare?
Because that would be fairly neutral player feedback, and it would be issues, not opinions reported - maybe that would help us be listened to?

Only two real problems as far as I'm concerned but they're both fairly severe.

#1: The tactical camera is complete and utter garbage. You can't zoom out far enough to make the overhead view worthwhile, you can't pan the view by moving your cursor to the side like you can in virtually every game ever, and worst every time you change the party member you're controlling the camera pans over to them. This is a *huge* problem since it results in a ton of wasted time whenever you're trying to get your entire party to focus on a particular enemy or to all move to a given location since you wind spending so much extra time slowly dragging the cursor back with every change. Borrow the logic virtually every other rts game uses and have the camera only move to focus if you double-click. I'd like to be able to just forget about the thing entirely but sadly you can't right-click ground to get characters to move to a given location anymore so whenever I need to direct more than one character's movement at a time it's an abusive necessity.

#2: The melee ability shuffle. Could we just make it an understanding that if I'm using a melee ability I'm using it from a position in which it will hit? If it misses it'll be on me and I'll learn right away not to do that. Instead the game seems to have a very narrow acceptable range finder which is unfortunately flummuxed by enemies moving back and forth during combat as well as characters having very noticeable rotation speed limits and hence much bumbling back and forth.

There's certainly other stuff I could complain about - assorted bugs with the UI, badly laid out status screen, the fact that I've played virtually the entire game while holding down the right mouse button because someone's apparently quite the pessimist on the whole "mouse look" thing ever catching on, etc. but those are the two that most severely hamper my enjoyment of the game.

I love seeing 'new' posters reply to the OP with the assumption it is some kind of give and take situation on here...

That said, the more I think about the Tac Cam for pc, the more I think it likely the 1st patch will address it in some degree.  Even if it is only a minor tweak.  Literally every new poster listing their biggest issues with the game list Tac Cam either #1 or 2.

And as for #2 above...  it's all about auto-attack.  Not having to do any of that shuffling.  The fact that it exists in Tac Cam "mode" has to mean it can be put into use in Action Cam.  Doesn't it?  Are there factors that I'm not seeing that would prevent this?

I guess I'd need to see the rage "around the net".  Right now, I see complaints about the patch lateness on Twitter, but perhaps an equal number of enthusiastic statements.

How so?

3 hours is a bit much for me right now.

With the understanding that I'm dropping a fair bit of nuance: They start off talking about the Hinterlands being relatively less interesting than the rest of the game and move on to other issues, like the poor tactical camera, not benefiting too much from being open-world. Comparisons get made to MMOs and it to a certain extent being a single player TOR.

It's 11:45~ish if you just want to drop into their conversation and will cost you about 40-50 minutes to listen to the more meaningful parts of it.

If I were picking a single quote for sparknotes that I think would probably summarise it: At 43 mins or so TB seems to largely his take up as, "I do like it, and it's certainly better than than the second one. [However,] I'd be happier with areas that were half the size with half the quests and twice the work put into them."

Were I to respond....

Dear Bryan Johnson,

How about just publishing a game when it is ready to be published?

How about being proud of a job done well rather than of a well done job?

+1 to Rahvin's post

I actually LOUDLY commended Allan for coming on here 2weeks or so ago. But the developers are reading only what they want to selectively perceive and it is feeding their fear.... of their own customer.  W. T. F?

And I am seeing more people coming here as new people buy this game and find a 207 page "PC Community Concerns"  topic that is actually started off with a statement issued in a Press Release (I have read it elsewhere - it was not exclusive to this forum.) and continued by denials and silence. Some people might rightly feel they have been robbed. Not sure how people are "supposed" to respond about that.

Ray's official stance, he's not with Bioware and doesn't represent. How on earth do any of you figure that he's going to respond to your concerns appropriately or provide anything to sate your appetite for a remedy. The guys put on the official watch aren't gonna do that, why the hell would he?

Well, if the patch is not out by monday, i propose we spam the sh!t out of them (namely @bioware and all the clique), politely. No more mister nice guy.

I realize there are alot of angry posters in here, and alot of posters making light of the spectacle of the situation (rightly so), but when Allan came on here the night before Thanksgiving, it was in response to the casual mentioning of using twitter to contact Ray Muzyka about this.  He pointed out that Ray was not involved in the game, and did not deserve to be "harassed" on twitter about it.

Now obviously I doubt anyone intended too do so that night, but the idea being planted was the reason Allan made his appearance.  And you can't fault him for doing so.  A messageboard can be a dangerous place.  The fact that he stayed on to talk about the patch and some of the issues involved was just a bonus as it was not his job to do so.

Basically my point is, as we deal with what is going on here, we need to keep in mind that not crossing that line is likely why this thread remains open.  I'd hate to not be able to come on here and ****** and moan with all you fine people as we wait for the patch, so let's not go overboard with the "riot" innuendo's, as you never know who might end up taking it to far.

Here is a funny gif of my aunt on holiday in Russia one time:

The one advantage Bioware has with complaints here is the walled garden of the forum.  It is not happening in open space like it does on Twitter or Facebook or on other forums like Steam or for other game developers - CDRedProjekt for example. Wowzers there are a lot of angry people not just here.

But here: threads can be

Locked.

Archived.

Ignored.

And posters with legitimate complaints banned.

Can we shift this forum? Or is there a better place  to visit? Just signed up with Reddit by the way. Just as much angst there I see!!

To be honest I was about to go insane until that Bryan Johnson post, anyway at least I feel that they are at least listening, even if they do not wish to post. Thank you Bryan and I do hope your post isn't torn apart because it's a much needed reply for the community to break the silence.

However, it has to be said that:

Essentially at this point if I went into something like the PC feedback thread and posted right now, what are my real options?
  • Post "I have read this thread and will do my best to make others aware of it" - This would get me flamed for not actually saying something that will make most furious people happy
  • Post "We are working on fixing x, y, and z" - This would then have a response of what about a b and c. Do you not care about those people with a b and c?
  • Post "We are going to fix everything" - Well now if someone decides not to fix something, then I will be called a liar in the public eye and inevitably damage my reputation by making a statement I have no control over

Lets break down these 3 options:

"I have read this thread and will do my best to make others aware of it" - very acceptable and it shows that you are listening to your customers and haven't run off somewhere while they are wondering what's going on. Even if you are flamed, that's part of life, but the casual reader will read through this thread, ignoring the flaming posters, and go "hey, at least Bioware is communicating with us and they are aware of the problems"

I have to agree that the second and third option may most probably be unwise at this point. But come on, just the first option would be enough for many - including those who read this forum prior to their purchasing decision. Silence won't cut it.

What a load.

The developers were all too happy to talk about "PC first" and "customize your keep" and "you're going to love the PC controls" and yet now that the game is out and they have to answer for the things they've said and the game they delivered, they pull the "well there are mean people out there so we just shut up" excuse.

This just pisses me right off. I was willing to be patient before, but this demonstrates a complete lack of respect for the consumer.

@ Bryan Johnson

The problem here is lack of communication. There were some few vague statements from BW and than nothing. A black hole of communication. Zero responce.
That could fly some 10 years ago, but not now.

Now costumers, or end-users if that is the term you prefere, are more involved in game making than ever before. Especially if we are talking about long running franchise that has an established fanbase. Those people are not just some walking wallets to milk, they are a "part of the team". They are here, they put their hearts, their passion into supporting not only a game, but also you: the people at Bioware. Most users here wanted to help to make this game better. And what BW has done? Ignored them.

Note that this thread was mostly friendly at first, where users were reporting issues (which were [and still are] planty), but after BW went dark on them, things started to get hot. Sure, there are some people who just want to moan and whine and troll, but the majority is just dissapointed with the way they are treated.

So yes, anything you say at this point will be "taken against you", but IMO that's entirely your own fault. Not talking to your friends leads to loosing those friends.

You know, if I were in Public Relations with an axe to grind, I might set up a cheap website not unlike Grey Wardens was (remember them and how the plug was pulled from them with DA2 launch approach?) and discuss this stuff in minute detail.

I do not know what to call it but a one-year purchase of the site would be a handful of dollars.

www.DA3.com - net - org - biz - pl etc.... I am sure something can be found. www.daInquisition.net ?  I am just letting my fingers to the tapping. I have no idea about these sites if they exist or not.  A free PHp forum is easy enough to set up there. Or an open blog platform like Wordpress.

That way, traffic can be directed from reddit or Facebook, or a reviewer site or Twitter to the site for people not being heard on PC Community Concerns....   hmmm... www.PCCommunityConcerns.biz  I wonder if that is available.   And there is no way to touch it. It is a platform for people to get together and discuss without the expectation of having anyone from Bioware answer. In fact, completely independent from Bioware.

Hey gang - those addresses seem to be all available.

That reddit post still makes me angry, besides not being able to remember my reddit details to reply. It's a simple evasive being a ***** tactic. In this day and age companies like this pay people to engage the public, placate them and listen to their concerns. You're telling me the entire organisation is quaking under their beds scared the consumer is going to rip them a new one, their organisation is gonna rape their careers and just general bad **** is gonna happen all round. ****** off, seriously.

I was kinda sarcastic towards this whole situation but also... you know I wonder if I could have sat there quiet, in a crowd like that, like a developer who knew QA was bogus all along and just collect my pay with silent indignation.

I share your anger friend.

Bryan Johnson just posted this on reddit

"My two cents, the entire industry has changed. I have a few posts on this sub reddit that ended up being quoted by English, French, Spanish and German news pages. If I provide a wrong piece of information that information is now in the public domain more than ever and I can be "crucified" for "lying" even years after the fact.

Furthermore we get instances of people being online bullied because they spoke to the public and then something happened that they didnt like. So the person that spent time talking in the community is now the enemy and the person who works behind the scenes has not spent extra time and is not potentially being bullied.

People will undoubtedly say EA changed us (I expect this) but it is infact the industry as a whole. When you have millions upon millions of dollars on the line (with actual legal consequences) you tend to watch your words a bit more carefully.

You'll also notice I have my real life name on this sub-reddit. I am not an anonymous person, people can very easily find out who I am so if I make a statement that someone doesnt like they can easily go out and search for everything I have done and start to tear me apart.

Essentially at this point if I went into something like the PC feedback thread and posted right now, what are my real options?

  • Post "I have read this thread and will do my best to make others aware of it" - This would get me flamed for not actually saying something that will make most furious people happy

  • Post "We are going to fix everything" - Well now if someone decides not to fix something, then I will be called a liar in the public eye and inevitably damage my reputation by making a statement I have no control over"

I wonder if this is the first job this guy has ever had.

Out of curiosity who all here has dealt with a customer unhappy with their product?

Out of everyone that has, how often is "run, hide, hope everything goes away" approach worked better than facing it head on?

Even if you have to tell them "I can't help it, you are just gonna have to deal with it" or "It is what it is" or "you are wrong and that's all there is to it" everything still ends up being solved and worked out faster than this hide and hope it goes away approach.

The garbage clients you don't want anyway won't come back, and the level headed ones you do want will stay if you at least talk to them.  If you run and hide you lose the respect of the good and the bad losing all of them.

It's not like this is some great revelation either, you just need to have some life experience to figure out, hence why I'm wondering if this is this guys first job ever.  But I guess you are a coward at heart, there's nothing that can be done about it...

edit:  Could you imagine a person like that, who is quaking in fear just because his "real name" is listed would fare working in an actual physical store.  If he is scared because some people know his real name, he might pee his pants if his clients knew what his face looked like, or where he would be every day from 8 to 5.  Hell, a lot of my clients have my cell phone number, 'lil Bryan would have to change countries if a customer had his phone number...

edit 2:  Oh NOES!  I just realized my full name is listed here and I bet this comment might make some employees at Bioware mad!  Better run around and lock everything up and hide under my bed, or the big meanies at Bioware are gonna come after me and my family because I said something they don't agree with!  I was just annoyed but willing to be civil before, but now that I know they ARE reading this but are literally just too big of chicken shits with too fragile of egos to handle any type of critique, even if it's constructive, I'm done.  Still enjoy their games, but I'm pirating them from now on...

Edit 3:  Except for Allan, may not be talking now, but he did go out of his way when he didn't have to have a back and forth.  He's cool.  If you ever move to Texas and need a job Allan, I'll hire you, not Bryan though, he is a ****** and I don't employ those.
